The Nordic Show

23.11.2024

Many thanks to the Stuart Byrne and the officers and committee of The Nordic for inviting me to judge at this rather special show. I had a lovely day.

Best In Show

I really had a super selection of dogs to choose from and the shortlist I thought was of super quality. After consideration, I awarded BIS to the very attractive gold Schipperke bitch Ch Komargo Going For Gold. She immediately caught my eye when she came in the ring and certainly did not disappoint on further examination. Cobby bitch with typical foxy expression, head of correct proportions and lovely dark eye. Correct ear of good size and well carried. Strong neck with desired arch into well placed shoulders. Good bone for a bitch and nice tight foot. Good breadth to her chest, short, and with short strong loin. Good hindquarters. Today was in the best of harsh jackets and well covered tail. Out moved her competition and defies the fact she is a veteran. I loved her and was delighted to give her top honours. Pushing the Schipperke hard was the Norwegian Buhund Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW. who put in a super polished performance to annexe RBIS. This wheaten dog immediately appeals for his size and overall balance. His head is very correct with correct shape and proportions. Dark eye of correct size together with high placed correctly shaped ears completes his expression. Good length of neck. Correct square outline with good depth of chest. Correct tail set and well curled tail. Ideally angulated behind and is super hard condition with good harsh coat. Moved with drive and good reach in front. Both of these dogs really pleased me and was a pleasure to award them high honours.

Best Puppy in Show

Some quality puppies today. It certainly was a day for Buhunds as the Buhund Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It annexed BPIS with some to spare. Another wheaten male who impressed for his overall type and size. An upstanding dog who was hard to ignore and took my eye immediately. Beautiful head of correct shape and proportions with good breadth of skull and nicely tapering through without loss of strength. Good eye and correct ear size and positioning. Correct forehand. Good bone and good tight oval foot. Well ribbed, correct topline and short coupling. Good tail set. In excellent jacket. Beautiful light action and sound fore and aft. I really liked him and wish him well. RBPIS was the smart Siberian Snowmist’s Eli At Lolotea (imp CAN) Pleasing young male of good size and well balanced. He is not overdone in any way and has good leg to body proportions. Pleasing head and expression. Nicely chiselled. Good of correct almond shape and correctly set. Ears correctly carried and well furred. Nice through the forehand. Pleasing body proportions, good topline and well-set tail correctly furnished. Nice hind angulation. Harsh coat and not overcoated. Moved very well.

Best Veteran in Show

BVIS Seensha Angel Eyes at Claudmist JW Akita. Impressive bitch who has a super head and expression. Particularly liked her strength and head shape. She is very feminine despite no loss of strength. Good dark eye of correct shape. Super ears of good shape and carried forward as desired, and being of good thickness. Nice through the neck and shoulder. Excellent bone and good tight foot. Overall body proportions are correct. Well-developed forechest. Well angulated behind. Not as strong in topline as she could be but I forgave this in a large veteran breed. Good double tail. Moved very soundly. 2. Ristine Tweedldee. Black male Schipperke. Really smart handsome cobby dog. Good head and eye. Nice ears of good strength. Muscular neck into good shoulders. Short with good strong loin. Well rounded rear. In good condition and good dense hard coat. Moved well.

Eurasier

Puppy. 1. Bittebit’s Magiske Meiko. Alone but I liked this puppy very much indeed. Very raw at six months but all the essentials are there. Overall body proportions are correct. He has a correct head in terms of head shape. Good width through, ideal head planes, overall head proportions are correct and required furrow present. Lovely dark eye. Ears are correct in terms of size and shape with nice, rounded tips. Pleasing front assembly. Moderate angulation front and rear. Nice top line which he maintained on the move. Already at this age he has a well-muscled rear. Correct high tail set. In lovely bloom with a good coat. Although very raw and not collected at all times when he moves steadily, he is very sound. I thought he was a lovely puppy and was very disappointed not to see him back for best puppy and show where I’m sure he would to have made what was a very good shortlist. I shall follow him with interest.

Finnish Spitz.

A lovely entry for this breed so thank you to all the exhibitors. Was nice to see a good number present, I do not understand why this breed has been less popular over time.

Puppy. 1. Lelaps King in the North. This is a very promising puppy who is still immature at eleven months, but the essentials are all there. Nice clean head of correct proportions. Good pigmentation and lovely dark correctly set eye. Nice, neat ears of correct shape. Good neck and shoulder. Well ribbed back but just needs to drop and fill in front. Tail is as the standard calls for it, so well set with vigorous curve and correctly placed. Of decent length. Nicely angulated hindquarters. Coat is of correct texture and the development of his shoulder hair is already evident, a few black guard hairs still to lose on this tail but he is still young. Shortlisted and in contention for BPIS.

PG. 1.Valokki Lakritsi. Nice for size and overall shape. Pleasing head piece which is of correct proportions and nice and clean cut. Nice ears. Would prefer a slightly less round eye. Good neck and shoulder. Correct topline. Would prefer a little more width in front. Nice rear end and good tail set would if being hypercritical like his tail to come further down his thigh. Moved ok.

Open. 1 Ch Enkelini Hopeinen Ukkonen. I have judged this dog twice before but today I thought I have never seen him look better. He is now a fully mature male in full coat and is a lovely example of the breed. He pleased me for his size and overall balance. Typical head which is nice and clean through. Dark eye of correct shape and set. Neat small ear. Enough length of neck. Nice front. Good depth of chest and correct topline. Ideal moderate hind quarters. Pleasing tail although if hypercritical it could come a fraction further backward. Moved very well. In the best of coats of good hard texture and typically well developed for a male. BOB and shortlisted for BIS. 2. Saisaaren Salmiakki Via Valokki. Different to 1. Won this on his size, shape and showmanship today. Not the head and expression of the first placed male. Good front with nice bone and feet. Pleasing neck and shoulder. Correct topline although a fraction long in loin. Nicely angulated rear. Sound on the move and in good coat. in 3. Ch Enkelini Kirsikan Kukka

Veteran. 1. Ch Toveri Tosca of Lelaps. I have judged this bitch before. Active and lively bitch and in no way appears a veteran which is a credit to her owner. Very pleasing head with nice expression. Good eye and ear. Good length of neck. Level top line and good tail set. She is well off for bone for a bitch and has nice feet. Overall presents a nice silhouette. Moves away with some drive but is not so tidy coming towards you. This cost her further honours. In good condition.

Pomeranian.

PG. 1 Intime New Beginnings at Diemzs (IMP). Quality orange bitch. Presents a nice overall shape. Pleasing head and very typical foxy expression. Super dark eye and well carried small ear. Quality fine bone and the best of cat feet. Compact enough for a bitch. Well ribbed. Well angulated rear. Lovely straight tail, well set and correctly covered. Good harsh coat. Moved with drive but if I am to be critical, she could be a fraction tidier coming towards you.

AV Import

Open. 1. HR Ch Yulyeong Rock Dee Jay. Jindo. Impressive dog. Certainly, up to size but I thought him a quality male. Has a really lovely headpiece and is full of type. Typical head and gives the appearance of the desired blunt traiangle. Correct skull to muzzle ratio. Beautiful small eye correctly set and of good dark colour. Good thick well-set ear. Good length of neck into correct shoulder placement. Well sprung. Good level topline with high set sickle tail. Muscular thighs and adequate angulation. On the move has the required reach in front although if critical could be a fraction tidier behind.

Veteran. 1. INT/IR Ch Yulyeong Warrier Princess JCH. Veteran Bitch. Another Jindo of quality. I thought she was nice for size and overall shape. Pleasing head and expression. Super ears of good shape, thickness and correctly facing forward. Would prefer a slightly more almond shaped eye. Good neck and shoulder. Level topline. Well ribbed. Pleasing, well-muscled hind quarters. Good tail. Moved well.

AV Spitz

AV Veteran. 1. Ch Hurtsfield Renen Vixen at Tanellis. This Swedish Vallhund bitch stood away in this class. She impressed me in BVIS and was unlucky not to place. A natural bob, she is very typical, and I see that quite rightly she has her crown. Lovely head of good length and correct skull to muzzle lengths. Good dark eye and correct ear size and shape completed the expression. Good length of neck and well laid shoulder. Typical front assembly. Super bone for a bitch. Good chest development and well ribbed. Level. Well angulated rear. In good jacket, Moved well with good drive. I liked her a lot. 2. Bowerhinton Bombette. Elkhound. Quality bitch who is full of type. Pleasing eye and ear set and size. Muscular powerful neck with nice ruff. Well placed shoulders. Good depth of chest and well ribbed up. Nicely set tail which is correctly placed on her back. Moved very well. 3 Ch Kichigai’s Only The Lonely

AV Nordic Open. 1 Cocosamel Camelia JW. I have judged this Samoyed bitch before and in fact qualified her for the JW finals. I still think her a very nice specimen. Pleasing head and expression. In lovely condition and good jacket. A sound and steady mover. 2. Draccus Obsidian at Bucamereru. Smart Buhund. Nice for size and overall shape. Pleasing head although to be critical would like a very slightly less full eye. Good length of neck. Pleasing front. Correct topline and tail. Moved well. Very well handled by his young handler and taken at exactly the right pace. 3. Kobuk Foxtail Lady.

AV Puppy. 1. Knyshall Thistle Ink It Up at Koromandel. Black Buhund. Pleased for overall type. Still very immature and has a bit of maturing through to do. However, a very nice overall prospect. Typical head and expression. Well made through. Correct topline and correct tail. Moved very soundly fore and aft. Should do well. Young 2 Rosnorske Royal Qui Gon at Glamyam. Gassy young male Samoyed. Very pleasing head with beautiful eye and beautiful pigment. Super neck and shoulder. Correct body proportions. Good feet and pads. Moved well when he did, just needs to settle. 3. Lindcoly Trust In me

AV junior. 1 Chayo Unlock The Power. Handsome male. Upstanding dog of quality. Good head with good breadth to the skull and good sized muzzle which is broad and deep. Well set eye of correct shape. Correctly set ear. Decent length of neck. Well placed shoulders. Good depth of chest. Nicely boned. Correct topline for a Malamute and lovely tail set, tail is correctly carried and well furnished. Good hind quarters. Moved well with good drive. As the day went on he became more collected. A nice dog. 2. Lindcoly Tod Junior. Young Mittel dog. Very nice for type and has a good head with correct muzzle to skull proportions. Clean in cheek. Lovely dark eye and rib. Well ribbed up. Level topline. Nicely angulated rear. In super harsh topcoat. Moved well.

AV Brace. 1 Church’s Japanese Spitz. Race is good for type. All in excellent bloom and good condition. Very typical. Moved in unison.2 Young’s Samoyed. Both very typical. Very similar in type. Another pair that moved in unison and well handled. 3 Crowthers Siberian Husky

AV Team. 1 Church’s Japanese Spitz. Same team as the Brace with the additional dog. Again, the same comments above apply. All very typical and all moved in unison. All in excellent coated condition. A credit to their owner. 2 Young’s Samoyed. Another nice team. Again, all in excellent condition. All three very Typey. Not so collected on the move as the first placed team.
