I want to thank the society for inviting me to judge, on the way down I did not foresee judging outside due to the weather, but I arrived and it slowly cleared up, thank you to the society for allowing me to decide to judge gundogs outside in a massive ring in which movement could be assessed properly, by the end of my judging we were in beautiful sunshine, however lots of absentees I suspect due to the weather I had traveled in.

Gundog Group

1, WEYMAN, MRS, MORE THAN AMAZING WANNA BE A GANGSTER AT SPUFFING, ESS

2, BELLAMY, MISS, MOONTORN BETTER HALF OF ME JW, Flatcoated Retriever

A beautiful example of the breed and is presented so well by the handler. A bright and active bitch with lots of character. Feminine head with dark eyes and a lovely friendly expression. Clean neck of good length, I would prefer slightly more spring to rib, however, she is still young and this will come. Strong front and rear angulation, which she put to use on the move, where she covered the ground with ease and enthusiasm slashing her tail and holding her topline as she went.

I liked this bitch as she came in the adult group, still a baby and very much needing to mature, but it is all there, loved her head and expression and she had the right show attitude for one so young. Handler needs to be careful to not stuff her neck into her shoulders. One to watch for the future.

I was honored to be asked to judge the champion stakes and what a fab class it was only a shame I didn’t have first places for everyone.

1, LATTIMER, MRS, AUS CH OTTABA ON QUEWE (AI) (IMP AUS) Old English Sheepdog

This dog took my eye as soon as he walked in, presented in good coat and condition, young dog who presented as well balanced and strong, Lovely head masculine dark eyes and a cheeky expression, good length of neck leading into well-laid shoulders, plenty of rib and deep in brisket, he came alive on the move where he showed off his soundness by powering around the ring with a ‘look at me attitude’.

2, BEVIS, MRS, CH SKYVANA EMPTY DREAMS OF STARLANCE SHCEX, Tibetan Spaniel)

I liked this male for breed type presented as balanced in outline and of correct body proportions. Masculine head with a slight stop and good length of muzzle, beautifully dark bright, and expressive eyes which showed his alertness, ample length to the next and shoulders well laid, and good front and rear angulation which he showed when moving freely and positively around the ring another with the showman quality.

Beautifully balanced bitch presented in good coat and condition, pretty head of correct proportions, dark eyes with a lovely gentle expression. A clean neck with well-placed shoulders, straight front with tight feet, plenty of spring to rib and good depth of chest, well muscled and angulated hindquarters, well let down hocks, she came alive on the move, moved out with drive and purpose slashing her tail that was carried well. A 6 mnth old who presented as correct size and no mistaking she was a bitch. Head feminine and moderately broad with a slight stop, correct eye shape and colour, and such attentive expression. Balanced and well-bodied for her age, good front and rear angulation which she put to use when she moved effortlessly around the ring with plenty of drive.

1, HOPE, J, TESTAVERDE SELWYN FLOGIT, Italian Spinone

14-month-old dog who currently lacks a little confidence but he got there in the end, can’t deny his masculinity and strength, ample bone and muscle for age. Head of correct proportions with correct eye shape and color, a well-muscled neck leading into well-laid-back shoulders, he needs time to mature in mind and body once settled he moved freely and steadily covering the ground and maintaining his topline. 2, JAMES, MR, CLAMERKIN BROWN ONYX, Lagotto Romagnolo

A medium-sized dog who needs time to mature, has a compact body, with a well-developed chest, correct coat, and standing on strong compact feet. I would prefer a little more strength in hindquarters to see him drive off more on the move. Moved ok.

A well-presented male who is masculine throughout standing on good bone and muscle. Beautiful head and expression, clean neck leading into good lay of shoulders, well-sprung ribs with good depth from withers to brisket, strong hindquarters with moderate bend to stifle, he moved out effortlessly with plenty of spring and drive.

Beautiful bitch presented in good coat and condition, medium-sized nothing overdone about her, pretty head with dark eye and the friendliest of expressions, ears set low and of moderate length, clean neck leading into well-placed shoulders, well ribbed up and plenty of depth to brisket, level topline, well-balanced angulation she moved out well carrying her head high maintaining her topline and slashing her tail whilst powering around the ring. A 9-year-old male who is just starting to show his age, masculine head of correct proportions with a kind expression, strong and muscular body, with deep brisket and good spring to ribs, showing his age in movement as lacked the drive and enthusiasm.

First 2 dogs of similar age and I am sure they will swap places on many occasions, I just preferred the raciness of 1. Handsome dog with lovely head shape and proportions, dark eyes with a kind expression, well balanced, with plenty of bone and muscle for age, well presented in gleaming coat, chest deep with plenty of lung room. Moved effortlessly around the ring.

Similar comments to 1, slightly more substantial than 1. Handsome head, dark eyes, low set ears, good neck into well-placed shoulders, strong topline. Moved out well with plenty of reach and drive.

Pretty headed bitch with lovely expression in the eye, good length to neck leading into correct shoulder placement, and good topline, she presents as balanced and elegant, well coated for age, with good spring to rib and ample depth to the chest, lovely straight forelegs, she showed her powerful hindquarters when she settled down, driving from behind and covered the ground with ease and full of character. 2 yr old bitch who presented in good coat and condition, pretty headed with a gentle expression, clean neck, good spring to ribs with ample depth to the chest would prefer a cleaner tail set, a good amount of muscle and bone, she moved effortlessly covering the big ring with ease.

This bitch caught my eye as soon as she came into the ring, she has ring presence, is feminine and balanced, and well presented in good coat and condition. Pretty head of correct proportions, a gentle expression with dark eyes, a great length of neck leading into well-laid shoulders, straight front, lovely spring and depth to chest, good strong hindquarters with good bend to stifles, correct topline with good tail set, which she held on the move, moved with reach and drive and covered the ground effortlessly. Not as balanced as 1 at this stage but no mistaking this was a dog, a masculine head, dark eyes, a soft expression, and ample length to neck, would like to see a slightly stronger topline, and more spring to rib, but he is still young and has time, he moved out well, slashing his tail and owning the ring.

A masculine dog who is up to size, he was enjoying himself he was giving his handler a tough time on the move, but once settled he moved ok. Good detail in his head with a mischievous expression, with a nice length to ear, he has good bone and muscle for his age, plenty of spring to his ribs and good depth from withers to brisket. BOB

Different type to 1, a feminine compact bitch, not as balanced as 1. Feminine in head with dark eye and an alert expression, good length to neck, good depth of forechest, straight front with tight arched feet, she is stronger in her fore than hind at this stage. Moved more settled than 1 and covered the ground with good reach and drive. RBOB

6-month-old bitch clean head of correct proportions, and a feminine head with a friendly expression, nicely set ears, ample length to neck leading into well laid back shoulders, she is balanced for her age, with a good amount of depth and width to chest. Standing on straight forelegs and with a good bend to stifle, she moved out well with good reach and drive with the gentle spring required for the breed. BP and PG4.

A mature 3-year-old dog, well balanced and presented in good coat and condition, he is well boned and muscled and stands on the straight front, with a strong hind, well bodied with good depth and width to chest. Masculine head with a lovely expression - he moved around the ring effortlessly with plenty of reach and drive and as one with his handler. BOB.

I like this bitch a lot, correct size and well-balanced, just lacking the maturity of 1 at this time. Pretty head of correct proportions and expressive eye, clean neck, leading into good lay of shoulders, good depth of chest with ample spring to rib. Moved effortlessly covering the ground with ease and enthusiasm. RBOB.

17-month-old male both handler and dog new to showing, masculine head with square muzzle and distinct stop, would prefer more over the skull to give the correct head proportions, nice eyes with a gentle expression head finished with lovely low set ears, clean neck leading into well-laid shoulders, needs to body up which will come with age, slightly longer in loin than I would prefer, but good level topline with the correct tail set. Standing on well-boned and balanced fore and hind, which he put to good use on the move, moving out well with plenty of drive from the rear. RBOB.

20-month-old bitch who took my eye as she came in, presented in beautiful coat and condition and the typical cocker outline, she is compact and well balanced and presents as a merry and smart girl. Feminine head with lovely dark eyes and soft expression, lovely long ears set low moderate length neck, leading into well-laid shoulders, level topline ample spring and depth to the chest, handled to advantage and moved out with plenty of reach and drive with a good spring to her step and with one with her handler. BOB & GRP 3.

Litter brother and sister in this class and no mistaking they come from the same litter as very similar in type, however, 1 is more together at this stage. Masculine head with good width to nostrils correctly shaped eyes with a soft expression, correct ear set and shape and with plenty of covering, nice amount of bone and muscles, ample spring to rib and ample depth for his age, good topline, ample bend to stifle, nice tight feet, moved out with reach and drive and the spring and enthusiasm you would expect to see in the breed. BP

2, WILLIAMS, TOUBLIC&TOUBLIC, MRS, MR, MISS, COBHAY HEAVENLY HYDRANGEA

Litter sister to 1, preferred her head to brothers at this stage, feminine and of correct proportions, lovely expression, clean neck leading into good lay of shoulders, straight in front with ample bone, well ribbed, not the topline and tail set of 1 and lacks confidence at this time. Moved well once settled.

A mature ‘in the body!’ 13 mnth old, full of character, and no mistaking he is a male, plenty of bone and muscle for his age, and presented in good coat and condition. Masculine head of correct proportions with a mischievous expression well-set ears of good length, clean length of ample length leading into well-laid shoulders, correct topline and tail set, well-sprung ribs, and good depth from withers to brisket. A dog who is well balanced and moved effortlessly around the ring with the right show attitude pleased to award him BOB and GRP1.

6yr old B/W bitch who took my eye as soon as she walked in, a compact bitch who is balanced, good amount of bone, muscle and coat. Pretty-headed with a gentle expression in correctly shaped eyes, well ribbed up with plenty of depth to chest, good front with strong hind, which she put to good use on the move, she moved out with enthusiasm holding her topline and covering the ring effortlessly. 2-year-old bitch, who presents as balanced, however, I would prefer slightly more to her in bone and substance, but that doesn’t take away from her confirmation. Well presented by the handler, Pretty headed with enough covering, with an alert expression, clean neck leading into good lay of shoulder, ample spring to rib, good topline and tail set, good bend of stifle and standing on nice tight feet, moved well with plenty of reach and drive and powering around the ring.

8-year-old bitch, presented in good coat and condition. Very typical of the breed, with a classic head with dark eyes and a gentle expression, a balanced bitch with enough spring and depth to the chest, a Clean neck leading into level topline, and a correct tail set. She came alive on the move, moving at the right pace, covering the ground with ease, and slashing her tail as she strode out across the ring, definitely a ‘showgirl’. BV
