Hounds and Hound Group

My sincere thanks to the Society’s Secretary, Cindy Stangroom, and the committee for the honour of judging at this well run show. I have exhibited at this show since childhood so it was very special to be able to judge a superb Hound Group for the Society and to see my group winner be awarded BIS.  Thank you to all the exhibitors for a super entry and to my stewards, Boo and Inger, for ensuring the ring ran smoothly.

WHIPPET

Puppy

1st    Glithero & Philo’s  Palmik Against All Odds For Coppershell.

Larger stamp, 10mth old male.  Nicely balanced giving a nice easy free movement, true fore and aft.  Good head of correct proportions and nice bright eye.  Good head carriage on nice length of neck, clean into shoulders and lovely straight forearms.  Good width to second thigh and stood over a lot of ground.  Pleased to award him BOB, BP and HPG4

2nd    Lewis’ Luckhurst Perfect Storm

Lovely young 9 mth old bitch.  I liked her non-exaggerated type.  Very feminine but still showing strength throughout.  Not as confident as first, which reflected in her movement not being as flowing.   Nice head with good rose ear shape.  Good spring to pastern on correct feet, nice underline.  Good quarters, with well let down hocks.

Junior

1st    Lewis’ Cotherstone Chrysantha To Luckhurst

Lovely 13mth old female, who has a lovely expression from nice bright oval eye, set in a clean head.  Good front, elbows correctly under withers and good underline. Good angulation fore and aft and moved out well but took time to find her stride.

Post Graduate

1st    Lewis’ Luckhurst Charisma

3yr old bitch presented in hard condition. Good head with correct stop and pleasing earset. Nicely balanced, with good outline and ratios.  Arched neck leading to good forequarters and clean into shoulders.  Good underline with nice topline.  Nice over the quarters, well let down hocks.  True movement once settled but didn’t move out so well in the challenge.  RBOB.

1st    Collins’ Crosscop Glitter In The Air For Tecstravan

Pretty 2 yr old female of nice stamp.  Lovely head with kind expression coming from good head proportions and nice oval eye.  Pleasing shape through the body of good proportions with good angles fore and aft.  Nice straight legs, good width to second thigh and nicely let down hocks.  Unfortunately, she was sensitive to the noise and didn’t show her full potential on the move.

1st     Coates’ Gladstyle Arm Candy

At just 6mths old this young lady epitomised the merry hound, coping beautifully with the noise.   She moved out with a free, long reaching, confident stride.  Lovely clean head of good proportions, nice earset.  Correct neck leading cleanly to good topline.  Correct lay of shoulder, good legs and feet, nice round bone.  Super forequarters, with excellent first and second thigh for age.  BP.  She tired a bit in the group but pleased to award her HPG3.

Post Graduate

1st    Caple’s Morsefield Laura Ashley

Beautiful feminine 2 yr old who I really liked from the outset.  Correct head of good proportions, showing kind eye and appealing expression.  Nice arch to clean neck.  Lovely front and rear angulation with correct depth and length to body.  Good bone stood on excellent feet.  Correct stern and carriage.  Very balanced on the stack and confirmed with excellent length to stride, good away and back, moved with purpose while maintaining topline throughout.  Delighted to award her BOB and HGrp2

2nd    Bell-Thomas & Thomas’ Amorpapaver Hercules

Sturdy male of a heavier stamp.  Very alert, enjoying his time, making his handler work hard.  Pleasing head of nice proportions, set on a good length of neck, good front and nice depth to body.  Nice width to second thigh.  Maintained his topline and moved out with purpose but not as precise  as first.

1st    Davies’ Annavah Nocturne At Barrvale

Beautiful young bitch, who really made me smile, showing such true breed character and type.  Lovely head of excellent proportions, with typical expression. Excellent neck leading to lovely shoulder placement.  Correct depth and length to body with excellent topline, correct tail.  Excellent forequarters with well let down hocks.  Moved out well, with flowing side gait. RBOB

2nd    Caple’s Morsefield Mudlark ShCEx

Masculine hound full of type and quality.  Super head of good proportions with correct expression and ears.  Good neck leading to good lay of shoulder and straight forelegs.  Super feet.  Correct  proportions throughout and good topline, with good rear angulation.  Correct tail and carriage.  Moved out with easy stride but preferred the footfall of first on the away and back.

1st    Clinton’s Akmar Napatan Gold For Westlawn

Stunning youngster full of type, with typical breed character.  Well handled to get the best from her.  Good head with lovely expression, correct earset and wrinkles.  Long crested neck enabling good head carriage.  Very balanced angulation, with good length to second thigh and well let down hocks.  Lovely movement with tireless side gait showing drive.  BOB and pleased to award her HGrp4

2nd    Addis’ Bubas Juno Over Savannastorm

Very smart bitch, who did get spooked by the noise but she recovered well.  Nicely balanced, with good head and typical expression from wrinkles.  Pleasing length of neck, long forearms, good run of brisket.  Moved out well, showing drive. RBOB

1st    Lloyd’s Donskoi Opheila at Ninebark TAF CNAF

Pretty, 7mth old bitch, with pleasing head and gentle kind eye of good set.  Moved out with confidence showing reach and drive and presented a pleasing shape.  Good depth for age with enough width to hip bones, nice off the croup and good tailset.  Developing a lovely partnership with her handler. BP

Post Graduate

1st    Ford’s Mischran Miika

Young male, who is very much still maturing.  Proportionately good head with correct eye. Good neck leading to nice shoulder placement.  Nice depth of chest with proportionately correct length, Nice width to hip and coming nicely off the croup.  Nice long, easy stride showing nice spring from hocks. 2nd    Webb & Bates’ Rosskaja Fade To Grey

Feminine 18mth old, giving a lot a way with age.  Pleasing head of good length with correct eye set, Nice depth through the body with good tuck up, good width to forequarters, nicely off the croup and good tail set.  Nice easy stride but enjoying herself a little too much for accuracy on the away and back.

1st    Logvinenko’s Ryazan Vladimir

Mature male, who was presented in super condition.  Flowed round the ring with a long balanced stride coming from good spring to pasterns and balanced drive from hocks.   Long, lean head, lovely dark eye and well set ears.  Super neck flowing cleanly to well laid shoulders.  Lovely depth to brisket with pleasing tuck-up.  Pleasing topline and strength and width over the loin.  Good feet and tail carriage.  Stood away in the challenge. BOB

2nd    Webb & Bates’ Rosskaja Ashes To Ashes

Lots to like about this teenage boy, who was enjoying his day.  Litter brother to 2nd in PG and many of the same qualities apply.  Good head of his proportions, with nice arch to neck.  Correct depth and width for age, with a good tuck-up.  Good length of second thigh and well let down hocks.  Moved out nicely and time to drop into himself to give longer reach.

Lovely young boy who, though very spooked, showed some lovely attributes when together.  Good long head  but dark eye showing correct expression.  Nice length to neck with good front and breadth to body.  Nicely balanced fore and aft.  Standing on well padded feet.  Gently handled and showed more confidence later in the group.  BOB

1st    Herbert’s Dallandor Evocative

Pretty 7mth old bitch.  Good shaped head with kind, dark almond eye, giving typical expression. Strong neck leading cleanly to good forequarters, nicely developed for age.  Kept topline on move and nicely ribbed back.  Good rear angulation and stood true and straight.  Moved out with nice parallel movement, showing drive. precise footfall.  BP. RBOB

2nd    Woods’ Kelcardi Planet Mars

10mth old male.  Full of breed character.  Lovely head and correct expression coming from good ear and eye set.  Nice front and balanced angulation fore and aft.  Well ribbed back and nice depth and width for age.  Side gait was pleasing though lacked the precise footfall of first on the away and back.  Felt a more relaxed lead would have helped the accuracy and drive on the move.

Beautifully presented smart bitch,  who moved out with drive and precision, while holding topline.  Lovely lines throughout starting a correct head with good eye set and correct ear carriage. Leading to good length and strength to neck and correct forequarters.  Good rear angulation, standing true and parallel. BOB

1st    Latham-Jackson’s Urishay Nell Gwyn

Beautifully presented 6 mth old bitch.  Classic head with correct ear and eye set, nice neck leading to good topline.  Good breast bone with nice front angulation and balanced rear, standing true.  Good feet. Ribbing of good depth and length.  Moved out true with drive and liked the overall shape she presented. BP. RBOB

2nd    Wallace’s Ralines Tina Peaches

Gentle expression and demeanour to the 9mth old bitch.  She had many of the qualities of first with a pleasing head leading to long neck, clean into the shoulders.  Balanced forequarters, with nice depth leading to well backed ribbing.  Nice rear angulation, completing a nice overall shape.  Moved true but preferred the stride of first.

Very smart male, rising 3 years old and presented well.  Good head piece with, nice dark almond eye and good set ears.  Lovely strong neck, good fore chest and nice lay of shoulder.  Nicely ribbed, holding topline.  Balanced rear with good angulation.  Very true on the move, with precise footfall. 2nd    Wallace’s Ralines Just Jiles

Nicely made 3 yr old male with lovely head of nice proportions.  Good forequarters, with nice depth and ribbing, holding topline well.  Good angulation, showing strength, stood parallel.  Moved out with enough drive and extension but I just preferred the purpose with which first moved.

1st    Dance’s Emem Hope For Sunshine

This beautifully made 12mth old bitch really made me smile.  Lovely head with super expression coming from correctly set almond eye.  Nice strong neck with slight arch leading to good front angulation.  Good forechest, nice depth and length of rib with strong loin.  Correctly angulated rear quarters ensuring free flowing movement.

2nd    Rowberry’s Griffingate Elizabeth

Nicely made 18mth old bitch with pleasing head, with nice carriage.  Good front angulation with good fore chest. Nice length of rib and presented good overall shape and adequate rear angulation.  True on of the away.  Some schooling would help as she did have a tendency to side wind which affected her topline.

Really loved the character of this smart young lady .  Lovely expression from a head of good proportions with correctly set ears.  Lovely length of neck leading to good fore chest and angulation.  Nice depth and width, with good clearance and good length all through.  Good rear angulation, short lower thigh, standing true on correct feet presented in good condition.  Moved out with free, easy movement while maintaining her topline.  Delighted to award her BOB and HGrp3. 

2nd    Gilkes, Storton & Storton’s Dereheath Shaken Not Stirred at Birichino

Masculine head with good eye set giving a pleasing expression.  Nice strong neck leading to good forechest and balanced angulation.  Nice length of body and held his topline with a good side gait.  Preferred the footfall of first on the away and back.

1st    Stark’s Gobannium Made Of Honour

Stood alone but this did not detract from this very feminine 11mth old.  Lovely head with typical expression coming from dark almond eye and good ear set.   Good neck and excellent forequarters, well ribbed with a good topline.  Lovely turn of stifle giving good rear angulation.  Moved out beautifully, showing an easy free flowing movement and conveying breed type.  Pleased to award her BOB and BP.

Litter sister to previous class winner.  They are both lovely and II’m sure they will swap places many times in the future.  Today I just felt G. Made of Honour moved out slightly better in the challenge.  I wish them both promising futures.  RBOB

1st    McCalmont’s Silvae Hallmark

Feminine 10mth old, with lovely typical head and expression of nice proportions and well set ears.  Lovely strong neck, cleanly into correct shoulder angulation.  Nice length through the body with correct depth and length.  Good rear angulation, short lower thigh, correct feet.  Held topline and shape, moved out out well with easy confident side gait.  I’m sure she has a promising future; pleased to award her BP and PHGrp 2.

2nd     McCalmont’s Silvae Kitemark

Litter sister to first; both presented in beautiful condition and many of the same qualities apply.  Very pretty with a super expression from beautiful dark eyes.  Liked her overall shape but felt her sister was a little bit more together at this stage and moved truer on the away and back.

A beautiful feminine 3 yr old, who conveys breed character and type. Correct head with dark almond eye and ear set.  Lovely reach of strong neck leading to a nicely angulated front.  Good brisket giving correct width and depth all through.  Nicely ribbed, with a good topline that was maintained at all times.  Good rear angulation, giving balance and enabling reach and drive.  Just love how she moved around the ring with a spark to her attitude,  BOB

2nd    Graham’s Boloria Wild Spice JW

Lovely young bitch, presented well with a pleasing outline.  Lovely head with good ear set and nice arch to good length of neck.  Nice front angulation with good depth of body, nicely ribbed back.  Balanced rear angulation, parallel hind legs when stood. Moved out well and very true just preferred the overall carriage of first.

1st    Allenby’s Rangali Pixie Stick. Basset Fauve

Just 7mths old and she already knows she’s special; moving round the ring with a commanding attitude.  Nicely balanced head of correct proportions with well set ears with good length.  Strong neck leading to nicely angulated front, straight legs and strong pasterns.  Good depth and width for age with nicely rounded ribs.  Balanced rear angulation with pleasing turn of stifle.  Pleased to award her BP and felt she couldn’t be denied HPG1

2nd    Reid’s    Maudaxi Joanie Loves Chacha.  BGV (Petit)

Beautifully made 16mth old, who was a pure teenager making her handler work hard.  Lovely head with wide nostrils and bright oval eye.  Good ear set, with correct inward fold.  Good length of neck leading to good lay of shoulder.  Pleasing width, length and depth to body, coming nicely off the croup.  Balanced rear with well let down hocks.  Moved out with lovely easy stride and true away and back, when she cooperated.

1st    Reid’s Maudaxi Joanie Loves Chacha

As Above but far more together in this class.

2nd     Heyman’s Magical Saskia. Greyhound

Feminine bitch with a gentle demeanour. Pleasing head with rose ear and dark oval eye, set correctly.  Long neck leading cleanly into shoulder.  Straight forelegs.  Good depth and square in outline. Arch to loins with good set of tail. Moved out true but not as freely as I would have liked.

1st    Allenby’s CH Soletrader Fun Times For Rangali JW.  BGV (Petit)

Beautifully balanced 2.5 yr old bitch.  Correct head of good proportions, gentle oval eye and well set ears with inward fold. Super neck leading to lovely lay of shoulder.  Correct through the body with good depth and length and well muscled over the croup giving correct tail carriage.  Nicely muscled through the second thigh with well let down hocks. All confirmed when she moved, with precise foot fall and good reach and drive.  B.AVNSC

1st    Gunn’s Stonemartin Ailbe With Katanga (IKC).  Azawakh

It was a delight to be able to go over this breed for the first time and I felt this 4yr old bitch was a lovely example, giving the desired rectangle outline.  Long lean head, with correct almond eye and good ear shape.  Lovely long neck, with slightly slanting shoulders. Nice depth to body with good tuck up.  Stood with vertical and parallel rear quarters with moderate angulation.  Moved with desired high action showing a graceful, supple stride. B.AVImportBR.Hound

2nd    Dale & Saxon’s Oakhill’s Lady Liberty (IMP USA)

Lacking some confidence, which meant she didn’t give her best on the move, and giving a little away with age at 8yrs old, but I really liked this very true hound.  Correct head,  with oval outline and open nostrils, lovely set of round dark eye and low set ears, with gentle folds of good length.  All giving correct expression.  Good forechest. Nice lay of shoulder with straight forelegs and stood on super feet. Nice depth, well ribbed back with broad loin.  Good rear angulation and well let down hocks. I hope her handler continues showing her and they gain their confidence together.

Nicely made 11mth old male, with a pleasing expression and beginning to show strength all through.  Lovely head with good eye and ear set.  Lovely front with good brisket and underline.  Well ribbed back, nice over the loin and good rear angulation. True movement but didn’t feel he had the drive and animation of first.

Veteran

1st    Matthews’ Gooses Glint Of Gold At Flugelberry.  Basenji

Heading up a super class of veterans was this 13.5yr old bitch.  Presented in excellent condition for age.  Pleasing head with good eye and ear set.  Nice length to forearms and balanced angulation.  Square outline with good depth, firm topline and maintaining her shape. Still strong in the rear quarters. Very true on the move still showing reach and drive with good foot fall.  BHV

2nd    Reid’s Ch Vilauddens Magnificent Mile (IMP NLD). BGV (Petit)

Well made, handsome male of 8.5 yrs old.  Good head with kind dark eye and good set of ears with gentle fold and of good length. Nice reach of neck into well laid shoulder.  Standing on excellent feet.  Nice depth and length to body, well ribbed.  Strong rear angulation which powered him round the ring but would’ve preferred a bit more reach.

HOUND GROUP

1st    Hodge’s Kxoxxo I’m Old Fashioned For Colkeririn JW (IMP FIN).  Rhodesian Ridgeback

Handsome, upstanding 18mth old male who stood away in the group.  Good head of nice proportions with dark eye and correct ear set.  Beautiful strong clean neck, leading to good front and correct angulation. Nicely boned and standing of good feet with good spring to pasterns.  Correct topline with strength through the loin and coming nicely off the croup.  Good rear quarters with nice turn of stifle.  Balanced all through and standing four square naturally.  Even in a small ring he was able to drop into his stride and move with a low free action, showing reach and drive with precise footfall.  Thrilled to see him awarded BIS.
