IRVINE & DISTRICT CANINE CLUB OPEN SHOW

25th MAY 2024

HOUND GROUP

Being the same day as hounds at Bath this was a small but quality entry which was a pleasure to judge. Despite the previous two days rain the ground was in very good condition. The weather was ideal for showing outdoors and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Thank you to all that entered and to my two stewards who did a great job.

A quality entry of rhodesian ridgebacks

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK JUNIOR (3, 1 abs)

1. Mulholland & Cunningham’s WALAMADENGIE HEART THROB, nearly 11 months red wheaten dog who, being 5 months older, was a lot more mature than 2. He is well balanced with a pleasing head, good strong bone, straight front, good feet, he moved very well away and back and strode out well in profile. HPG2.

2. Jolly’s PRIORPARK WILLIAM WALLACE FOR CLANBRUACHAN, this wheaten boy was giving a lot away in age. He is just a baby at 6 months old but shows a lot of promise. Attractive head with a lovely expression from dark eyes. Well boned legs and moved out very soundly.

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK POST GRADUATE (2, 1 abs)

1. Black & McKinlay’s ASHARAA DARK SIDE OF THE MOON AT GILEEJA, alone but worthy winner, 2 year old red wheaten dog, well put together with a balanced outline, well bent stifles, strong bone, good topline, pleasing head and expression, a sound mover covering the ground easily in profile.

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK OPEN (4)

Looking back I see that the 1st and 2nd were my 1st and 2nd in PG last time I judged. All 4 in this class are worthy of 1st place and I expect they change places often.

1. Black & McKinlay’s ASHARAA STARS IN YOUR EYES AT GILEEJA JW, a 2 year old red wheaten bitch who has a lovely outline standing, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, good depth of chest, hindquarters well muscled with well bent stifles, most appealing head and expression from dark eyes, she moved very soundly front and back and with a free stride in profile. BOB & HG1.

2. Shaw’s NEGASI RADAGAST JW, 2 year old wheaten dog with lots to like and many of the same qualities as 1. He too is well balanced and moves very well as did all the ridgebacks. He has a pleasing head with good pigment.

3. Jolly’s NEGASI ELBERITH FOR CLANBRUACHAN JW

WHIPPET JUNIOR (1)

1. Burton’s BALLENBREICH HARRIS, this 14 month fawn brindle/white dog has a look of quality and appealed for his overall shape. He has a lovely balanced unexaggerated outline with good reach of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, straight front and well bent stifles. He has a most pleasing head with dark eyes giving a lovely expression. His movement was parallel front and back, would just like to have seen him moved a little faster to allow him to stride out more. BOB & HG4
