Dalmatian Club of Scotland Open Show
15th September 2024
Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at their fabulously run show, I am truly honored. And another thank you for my lovely gifts.
A big thank you to both of my stewards who kept the ring running smoothly and a huge thank you to all the exhibitors who bought their lovely dogs under me.
I found all temperaments to be happy and outgoing with just a couple of dogs being unsure but still happy to be assessed.
Baby Puppy Dog – 2/0
I didn’t want to mess about too much with the babies, I wanted them to have fun! What cracking little pups these two are, I will watch them closely in the future that’s for sure.
1st – Pearson, Mr S’s Kelevra Beam Me Up Biscotti - black spot puppy at just 4.5mths old. He has everything there! He has a typical puppy head with the wrinkles in all the right places. Dark eyes giving a beautiful expression, well broken ears, correct bite. Nice length of neck leading into correct level topline and correct tailset. Nice front with tight elbows, plenty of substance in the forelegs and tight cat feet. Rear angulation matching his front making him overall very balanced. Moved well for one so young, and I really look forward to watching him in the future as I am sure it is a bright one!
2nd – Hobbs & Whitings, Ms C & Miss M’s Joubello Freedom With Rapanooey - 5.5mths old puppy showing a lot more maturity in body than 1 as one would expect. So much to like about this baby! Heavier in spotting than one but fills the eye. Lovely spotty head that he still has a lot of growing into, dark eyes, well broken ears that he carried well correct muzzle and bite. Nice length of neck leading into good shoulders and level topline. Correct tail carriage. Loved his overall balance and another to watch closely in the future! Just wasn’t settled on the move today, but was thoroughly enjoying his day out which is how it should be for these babies.
Veteran Dog (4/1)
1st – Neath-Coyne, Mrs S - Ch Buffrey Incognito By Dalleaf JW VW - my notes say stallion of a dog for this boy! He really does not show his age of 9yrs, he moves at one with his owner and glides across the ground with ease. He has everything that you look for in a male dalmatian without being overdone or coarse. Balanced throughout, powerful yet graceful on the move and totally deserves all that he has achieved. His black pigment is still so strong for his age, which can sometimes start to fade (not on this boy!) Happy to award him BVIS but his litter sister really pushed him hard for that spot.
2nd – Handyside & Sampson, Miss S & Dr E’s Dalstorm Future Formula - 7yr old black boy with much to like. Slightly heavier set than 1st. Masculine head, with correct ear set which he used well, strong neck leading to well laid back shoulders and level topline. Correct tail set. Balanced angulations front and rear. Moved well but preferred movement of 1st.
3rd Marley & Libbey, Miss L & Mr M, Bellili’s D’amore De Loin Sh.cm Shcex VW.
Minor Puppy Dog (4/1)
1st – Wilkins, Ms K’s Salvadorada King of Hearts - at just 6mths old this puppy is showing real promise! His black evenly marked spots are the icing on the cake for me. Lovely head with well placed, broken ears that he used well, nice dark eye, correct muzzle and bite. Nice neck into well laid shoulders, correct topline which he held on the move and correct tail set. Lovely chest, strong forelegs leading to lovely tight cat feet. His rear angulation matching his front with gives him great overall balance. Plenty of bone on this boy. On the move he came into his own even with that puppy roll! He has a lot of maturing to do but another I will watch with anticipation. BPD and unlucky to meet what turned out to be his litter sister in the final challenge for BPIS.
2nd – Whincup, Mrs D & Mr K’s Tamilanda Vintage Gold - lovely liver 7mth old boy with rich pigment. Slightly heavier in the head than 1 but not coarse in any way. Correct ear set, plain face but beautiful amber eyes. Neck leading into correct well laid-back shoulders, good front and nice cat feet. Level topline and correct tail set. Another with overall balance front and rear. Just felt today he had lost his sparkle on the move after a long day. Moved ok.
3rd – Cattermole, Mrs J & Mr C’s Hafwenna Dumbledores Army For Kalvadene.
Puppy Dog
Repeat of Minor Puppy Dog.
Junior Dog
1st – Moss, Mrs L & Miss N, Sadiedel Let Ur Heart Decide - 17mth old Black spot boy who today was carrying a little more weight that I would of liked. That being said, I couldn’t deny him his place. Lovely head with well placed ears which he used well, correct dark eye, correct muzzle and bite. Overall this boy is totally balanced and with a good front, well laid shoulders, ample bone and lovely cat feet. Level in his topline with a correct tail set, enough bend of stifle with angulations matching both front and rear. On the move he held his topline and was the best mover in the class.
2nd Dinsdale, Mrs D E, Dotlun Apache Running bear JW - 16mth liver boy. Slightly larger and finer in frame than 1 but with so much to like. Balanced throughout which translated in his movement. He pushed for 1st place but with a small amount of the dreaded Dally rash, he just lost out.
3rs – Stocks, Mrs T, Dalmark’s Jubilations At Nospar JW
Yearling Dog
1st Newton, Miss C, What You See Is What You Get Passionate About You For Chizzmic (Imp Ble) JW - With a name like this he was always going to get attention! A real upstanding 19mth old Black spot boy that really surprised me! Overall this boy is very balanced with plenty of substance to him, lovely masculine head, well set ears that he really used well. Strong neck into well placed shoulders, lovely chest, stood on strong legs with enough bone. Level topline which he held on the move. This boy came into his own on the run round! Lovely reach and drive, powering him around the ring, well done to his handler for trying to keep up! Very happy to give him BD and he really did push for BIS. Definitely one to keep an eye on!
Graduate Dog
1st – Barry & Goddard, Miss E & Mr I’s Dalberry That Boy Is Mine- 20mth old Liver boy with deep rich pigment. Slightly Heavier in the head but not overdone. Overall balanced throughout, plenty of substance, would prefer slightly better front but that may drop with age. Strong neck, well laid shoulders and level topline. Well made boy who was the best mover in the class today
2nd – Dawson, Mrs J E’s Washakie Sun Warrior - 5yr old black spot boy with similar attributes to one. He is slightly finer in build, nice head with well set ears, correct muzzle and bite. Another with overall balance throughout, I just preferred the substance of 1 today.
3rd – Cattermole, Mrs J & Mr C’s Hafwenna Dumbledores Army For Kalvadene.
Post Graduate Dog
1st – Wilkins, Ms K’s Salvadorada Heads Will Roll JW – Upstanding 22mth old liver boy that commands your attention. Masculine head but not overdone, plainer face but doesn’t detract from his beautiful expression. Correct muzzle and bite. Level topline leading to correctly placed tail which he held correctly on the move. Plenty of substance and good muscle to this boy making him all male but with an air of elegance too. On the move he really comes into his own with plenty of reach and drive, which won him the class.
2nd – Kembrey, Ms M’s Dalmark’s Rhythm And Blues - 3yr old Liver boy. Slightly finer than 1 but lots to like about him. Nice head with well set and well broken ears. Lovely amber eyes giving a soft expression, correct scissor bite. Well laid shoulders, good front and nice tight cat feet. Level topline which he held on the move. Balanced throughout I just felt my winner moved with more vigor today.
Limit Dog
1st – Chance & Baker, Miss H G & Mrs M & Mr D’s Dotlun Red Devil - 2yr old liver boy slightly lighter in spotting. Masculine head with correct ear set that he used well. Nice neck into good topline, correct tail set which was held ok on the move. Good front and rear angulations giving him overall balance, nice tight catfeet. Plenty of muscle to this boy and he moved with reach and drive. –
2nd – Baker, Miss S’s Kelevra Chive Talking With Dalleaf JW - 2yr old black spot boy with rich dark pigment. Beautiful head but still masculine. Dark eye, well placed ears, correct muzzle and scissor bite. Level topline and good tail set. Plenty of substance to this young man. Moved well.
3rd – Finlay, Mrs A M & Mr M’s Dalfin Actualy Fact Shcex.
Open Dog (4/1)
1st – Hobbs & Whiting, Ms & Miss M & C’s Rapanooey Ranunculus - 3yr old liver boy that is understated and non flashy but has everything where it should be! My notes remind me that this boy can move, and as I always imagine a carriage in front of the dog on the move I could certainly see him going behind one all day. Lovely head without being overdone, kind amber eyes with a soft expression, correct muzzle and bite. Good lay of shoulder leading to good front and chest. Nice tight cat feet. Level topline with correct tail set, which he held correctly and wagged on the move. Rear angulation matching his front gave him the right tools to glide over the ground with ease. Seriously considered for BD.
2nd – Sampson & Sampson, Dr E & Mr W’s Dalstorm Golden Guinea JW - 5yr old black spot with dark rich pigment. Lovely head with well broken ears and correct ear set. Nice dark eyes, correct muzzle and scissor bite. Plenty of substance without being overdone. Balanced throughout. Many of the same attributes to one but he just lost out on movement today.
3rd – Tingey, Mrs H & Mr R’s Dallyador Lockdown Legend.
Baby Puppy Bitch
1st – Hobbs & Whiting, Ms M & Miss C’s Rapanooey Ribbons And Bows – 5.5mths old black bitch with super dark pigment, beautiful feminine head with well set ears that she used so well. Spotty face, with dark eyes, correct muzzle and bite. She still has a lot of growing and tightening up to do, but everything is really balanced throughout. She came into her own on the move, even though she was thoroughly enjoying her day out, I could see her movement, and this ultimately saw her being awarded BBPIS! So well deserved and another puppy I really look forward to watching her closely in the future.
Veteran Bitch
1st – Neath-Coyne & Baker, Mrs S A & Miss S’s Ch Buffrey Hanky Panky By Dalleaf - 9yr old litter sister to my veteran Dog winner that is the feminine version of her brother! So much to like about this girl. Lovely head with well set and broken ears, dark eyes with a soft expression, correct muzzle and bite. Her neck leads into well laid back shoulders and level topline, good front and rear angulations that show her overall balance. Like her brother she comes into her own on the move although not quite as showy, she still glides around the ring with reach and drive. In the challenge I was really splitting hairs, I just preferred the tail set on her brother. So close!!
2nd – Lamb, Mrs R’s Ch Dalpetro Diamond JW - 8yr old Black bitch that I have watched ringside for a long time. I really like her feminine head, well set ears and dark eye that also gave her a soft expression. Level topline with correct tail set, nice front, plenty of bone without taking away her femininity, nice tight cat feet, rear angles matching her front, she just sat back a little when making my placings which lost her the class. Moved with reach and drive.
3rd – Mrs D E’ Roadcoach Rejoice With Dalesbred.
Minor Puppy Bitch
1st – Wilkins, Ms K’s Salvadorada Kinky Boots - 6mths old liver bitch that is litter brother to my MPD class winner. So much to like about this little girl. Pretty head that still has some developing to do and rightly so, lightly marked on the head with lovely well set and evenly marked ears that she really used well. Amber eyes that gave a soft but cheeky expression, correct muzzle and bite. Her long neck led into a lovely level topline for one so young, correct tail set. Deep chest, lovely front, tight cat like feet, good angulation front and rear, plenty of bone without being overdone. On the move she still has the puppy roll but she moves with purpose and has reach and drive for one so young. So happy to award her BPIS and her litter brother was unlucky to be against her today, this was a hard decision.
2nd – Stubbins, Mrs R & Mr S’s Perdita’s Bean A Stormy Ride - lovely 8mth old black bitch that just needs to gain a little ring confidence. Very pretty head, dark eye, well set and broken ears, overall, she is really balanced but was a little hard to assess when going over her and unsettled on the move. I am sure she will do well once her confidence grows.
Puppy Bitch
Repeat of Minor Puppy Bitch
Junior Bitch
1st – Hill, Mrs W’s Dalstorm Just A Samba - Very pretty 12mth old Liver bitch that I have watched from ringside. I am so glad I got to go over her as she didn’t disappoint. Lovely head with flat skull, ear placement that she used well, amber eye, correct muzzle and scissor bite. long elegant neck leading to level topline and correct tail set which was held well on the move. Deep chest, tight elbows and cat like feet. Slightly longer cast in body but this just added to the whole picture. Rear angulations matched her front giving her enough reach and drive around the ring. Best mover in the class today.
2nd – Robbins & Hensman, Miss V & Mr M’s Salvadorada Jalapeno Girl At Palouse - another pretty 13mths old black spot girl that is slightly lighter spotted than 1. This does not detract from the whole picture. Super feminine head, with lovely well set ears that she used well. Lovely dark eye with such a soft, friendly expression. Level topline and correct tail set that she held on the move, balanced throughout and another great example from this kennel. Moved with reach and drive and was splitting hairs between 1 and 2 today.
3rs – Quayle, Mrs B’s Cubalibre Star Attraction.
Yearling Bitch (6/1)
1st – Quayle, Mrs B’s Cubalibre Star Attraction - 15mth old liver bitch that was 3rd in the previous class but pulled out all the stops in this one. She really came into her own. Lovely head with well set & broken ears, amber eyes, correct muzzle and bite. strong neck into level topline and correct tail set which was held on the move. Deep chest, nice forelegs into tight cat feet. Angulation matching front and rear giving her reach and drive. She powered round the ring.
2nd – Burrows, Mrs C – Shacarlu Bee Happy - A very feminine 22mth old black bitch with so much to like. Pretty head with well set ears that she really used. Lovely dark eyes, correct muzzle and scissor bite. Strong swan like neck leading to level topline, tail set correct that she held on the move. Good front, deep brisket with plenty of heart room, strong forelegs and tight cat feet. Her rear matching her front with good bend of stifle, she has enough muscle without being overdone. On the move she showed good reach and drive, I really was splitting hairs and I am sure these two girls will swap places in the future.
3rd – Foster, Mrs J E – Dallyador White Myrtle.
Graduate Bitch (8/1)
1st -Quayle, Mrs B – Cubalibre Wishing Star - Litter sister to the winner of the previous class I see, and so many similar attributes. Heavier spotted than her sister and slightly finer but still so similar. Lovely head with amber eye, correct muzzle and bite. Long neck into well laid shoulders, level topline and correct tail set. Overall balance and this showed in her movement, powering round the ring. Lovely rich pigment and good muscle tone.
2nd – Hunter, Miss E – Salvadorada Her Highness - this is a girl I’ve not met before, but no surprise to see she is from the same kennel as my BPIS and BPD. Lovely rich liver pigment, beautiful head with well set and spotty ears, lovely dark amber eyes, correct muzzle and bite. Slightly shorter in neck than I would like but this led into a lovely topline and tail set which she held well on the move. Good front and rear angulations, nice amount of bone without being overdone, and very well schooled with great focus on her handler. When she moved she was very understated but has so much reach and drive, I couldn’t deny her her placing today. Will watch these two closely.
3rd – Barnett, Miss N – Salvadorada Happy Go Lucky.
Post Graduate Bitch (8/2)
1st – Neath-Coyne, Mrs & Mr S – Kelevra Pickle My Fennel With Buffrey JW - I have judged this girl before and it all still applies! She has grown into a beautiful bitch with a little bit more maturing to do. A really pretty head with lovely well broken ears that she used continuously, lovely amber eyes that gave her a lovely expression, correct length of muzzle and scissor bite. Long neck into correct level topline and tail set. Good front and rear angulation, nice round legs with ample bone, nice tight cat feet. Great muscle tone throughout but not overdone in any way. On the move is what won her the class. Reach and drive but still gliding round the ring. At one with her handler.
2nd – Pace, Miss N – Sadiedal’s Arab Girl JW - 17mth old black spot bitch with lovely dark pigment and love her spotting. Such a pretty head on this girl, lovely spotty ears, dark eye with a cheeky expression, correct muzzle and scissor and bite. Lovely clean neck, correct topline and tail set both being held well on the move. Good front with elbows tight to her chest, brisket still has a little room to drop but this will come with maturity, strong forelegs and lovely tight cat feet. Her angulation matches her rear and she moves so well around the ring. The bond between her and her handler is undeniable. She was just carrying a little weight today which reflected in her placing, she pushed 1st hard.
3rd – Wilkins, Ms K – Salvadorada Hopes N’s Dreams.
Limit Bitch (5/2)
1st – Haywood- Ridgway, Mrs S – Luccombe Strawberry Fizz - 5yr old black bitch that really has so much to like. Another girl that is understated but still demands your attention. Lovely feminine head, well broken ears that she carried well. Pretty dark eye giving her a cheeky expression, muzzle and scissor bite both correct. Strong neck into well laid back shoulders, great front, strong bone to forelegs and nice tight cat feet. Level topline that she held so well on the move with her tail correctly held. Rear angulations matching her with good muscle tone. On the move she really came into her own, powering round the ring with reach and drive all while on a loose lead, was lovely to watch.
2nd – Ward, Mrs P M – Frankish Tete A Tete - 3yr old black bitch with lovely dark pigment, pretty head, with well set ears that she could use a little more, dark eye, correct muzzle and bite. Nice neck leading into level topline and correct tail set which she held on the move. Equal angulation front and rear. I just preferred the movement of 1st today and she is slightly finer than my winner.
3rd – Newton & Newton O’Brian, Miss C & Miss M – Cotterspot Nidderdale Lady Of Chizzmic.
Open Bitch (7/1)
What a lovely class of quality bitches!
1st – Derrick & Ryan, Miss N & Mr J – Kalokairies’s Hocus Pocus - Another girl I have judged previously and she has just got better with age! 3yr old liver bitch with lovely pigment, very pretty head, beautiful amber eyes with a soft expression. Correct muzzle and scissor bite. Rather plainer in markings to others in the class but this really did not distract from her. Her angulations are balanced throughout, and she oozes quality. She came into her own on the move and showed reach and drive, but one little criticism would be I would like to see her moved a little slower as I feel this would really show what I saw today. I was very happy to award her BB and ultimately BIS, so well deserved.
2nd – Burrows, Mrs C – Ellemstra Tough Cookie At Shacarlu, 6yr old black bitch that I have admired ringside for a few years. She does not disappoint! Very very feminine head, with lovely well broken ears that she held continuously, dark eye with a cheeky but soft expression. Lovely neck into level topline that she really holds on the move with correct tail set. She has a good chest with ample heart room, strong bone and tight cat feet. Good bend of stifle which allowed plenty of reach and drive. I was splitting hairs between these two girls today.
