DUKERIES (NOTTS) GUNDOG CLUB - OPEN SHOW – 17 February 2024

Thank you to the Committee for the invitation to judge at this well run Gundog Open Show and to my steward who ran the ring like clockwork, and to the exhibitors who entered under me with their quality dogs.

CLUMBER SPANIEL

P. (2)

1. Boden’s Suelynda Boom Bang A Bang, I liked the profile and shape of this 9 month old puppy, he has a good head and expression with eyes of good shape and clean ears. He is straight in front with good forechest for age, strong neck flowing through well-placed shoulders, has rounded ribs carried well back into level firm topline. Is muscular in body with strong hindquarters, well off for bone with large round feet, presented in good coat and moved out true, BP and pleased to see him awarded BPIS4.

2. Dawson’s Beskerby Flora Finching, 10 month old bitch with very feminine head of good proportions with square muzzle deep stop and lovely expression. She has good overall body proportions with good depth to chest and length of body, muscular loin, correct topline and tailset, is well boned with large round feet. Not as positive on the move which cost her the class.

1. Monaghan’s Kensesqui Nice At Tweedsmuir, 14 month old dog with masculine head of good type and expression with ears well placed. Displays a balanced outline and has good construction throughout with strong neck set into well placed shoulders, good length of rib, elbows in and level topline that he held on the move. Stands on good bone with large round feet and strong quarters with hocks well let down which he used to move around the ring with reach and drive. Shown in excellent silky coat and condition, BOB and pleased to watch him get shortlisted into last 8.

1. Monaghan’s Kensesqui Nice At Tweedsmuir, (repeat).

2. Guy’s Suelynda Kith And Kin Among Jahanghir, 21 month old dog with masculine head square in muzzle with well defined stop, clean eyes and correct bite. strong neck, well laid shoulder with a good return of upper arm, deep chest and with good spring and length of rib, is muscular in body, has good bone, well developed hindquarters and a good turn of stifle, just preferred the overall balance and movement of class winner on the day RBOB.

1. Macbain & Harrison’s Fecimus Never Ending Story, 8 month old black dog, a little apprehensive at first having been ‘spooked’ but then stood firm and allowed me to fully assess him. Lots to like, he is so balanced with masculine head of good proportions, dark kind eye, lean in foreface and clean dentition. Long clean neck set into well set shoulders, good depth to chest and ample ribbing for age, has good bone and tight round feet. Presented in lovely flat coat and moved straight and true.

2. Shipton’s Heartwood Mishules All Is Possible With Calico, 8 month Black and Tan bitch, another promising puppy well constructed throughout with a feminine lean head, dark eyes, low set ears and good bite. Good length to neck flowing into sloping shoulders, well sprung ribs for age, has plenty of bone and good muscled hindquarters, not as positive in movement as class winner on the day.

1. Macbain & Brewer’s Fecimus Never Look Back, litter sister to 1st in puppy. Lovely feminine head of good proportions, has well defined chiselling, dark eye, moderate stop and low set ears giving an overall soft expression. She is balanced in profile with good length to neck, is straight in front, has ample ribbing for age, level topline, flat boned legs and tight feet. Moved and showed with style, I am sure she will have a promising future, BP.

2. Angus’s Elgert Queen Of Hearts To Sparkenhoe, pretty black bitch just out of puppy with lots to like. She has a feminine head with good chiselling, dark expressive eyes and low set ears. Strong neck into well laid shoulders, good spring off ribs for age and of good length and muscled hindquarters. She has strong flat bone and tight feet, well presented but could not match the movement of 1st.

3. Shipton’s Heartwood Mishules All Is Possible With Calico..

1. Shipton’s Heartwood Mishules Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, 18 month old Liver & Tan dog with masculine head with moderate stop and low set ears. He has a strong neck, good depth of brisket with elbows tucked in, ribs well sprung and carried back to strong loin. Stands on strong flat boned legs and round feet, has a moderate bend of stifle and well muscled hindquarters. Well presented but did not move freely in the challenge.

This was a very strong class full of quality exhibits and a privilege to judge.

1. Osborn’s Sh Ch Elgert Lady Sta’dust JW VW, 8 year old black bitch of excellent type, she has a beautiful feminine head and expression with good work and chiselling, almond shaped eyes with correct colour and low set ears. She displays a pleasing outline in profile with strong neck of good length leading into well laid shoulders, is straight in front, deep brisket, ribs well sprung with correct length, a strong loin and moderate bend of stifle. She is muscled throughout with good flat bone, tight feet and correct tail carriage. Presented in excellent condition, a stylish mover with good forward reach and drive, BOB.

2. Macbain & Brewer’s Can Ch Am Ch Fecimus Written In The Stars, 5 year old liver bitch of quality with a lovely feminine head, well defined chiselling, is lean in foreface, has dark eyes giving a gentle expression. Good length to neck set into correctly sloping shoulders with a good return of upper arm, good depth to chest, is well ribbed back into short firm loin with elbows tucked in and stands on strong flat boned legs and tight round feet. Presented in lovely flat coat and moved straight and true, RBOB.

1. Dummett & Vikhrova’s Nova Story Boogle Woogle (Imp Mne), 11 month old tri coloured dog and my star find of the day. He has a masculine head of good proportions, lovely chiselling beneath eyes, good eye shape and colour giving an alert expression. He is balanced and compact with a strong arched neck leading into excellent shoulder placement and return of upper arm, with deep well sprung ribs carried back to short firm loin, strong hindquarters and correct tail set. Shown in lovely coat with good texture and feathering a stylish free mover with good drive and forward action, BOB & BP, pleased to see him shortlisted in the Puppy Group.

2. Jennings & Bedding’s Alibama It’s Quizzical, 9 month old buff bitch in the development stage in both substance and coat. She has a sweet feminine head, good rounded skull, defined stop and with dark expressive eyes. Arched neck with ribs well sprung for age, short in back with slight slope to topline. Straight balanced legs with tight round feet, a free effortless mover for one so young.

1. Jenning’s Alibama Quintessential, 9 month old buff dog and more developed than his litter sister. Pleasing masculine head of quality, with well defined stop, dark kind almond shaped eyes and well set ears. He has a long arched neck with shoulders set back, is well ribbed back with muscled hindquarters. Displays a compact outline when stood and moved with reach and drive around the ring. Shown in lovely textured silky coat and condition, RBOB.

1. Dummett’s Almondsbury The Pop Kids JW, 2 year old black and white bitch presented in good condition with textured silky coat. She has a very feminine head, defined stop, dark expressive eyes and plush muzzle. Balanced in outline holding her head well on strong arched neck, well laid shoulders, has a compact body of substance and depth, is well ribbed back to short loin. Stands on strongly boned straight legs set close to body with compact feet, moved out with sound driving action but a little unsettled in the challenge.

1. Wakefield’s Una Des Terres De Beaulieu (Imp) Fra, 9 month old promising puppy with lots to like. She has a head of good proportions with defined stop, dark kind hazel eyes and well set ears. Well developed for age with clean slightly arched neck leading to well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm, good length of ribcage and strong hindquarters and has plenty of bone throughout. Coat and colour coming, well presented and moved with confidence around the ring for one so young, BP.

1. Bull & Short’s Bakerscroft Beckley Belle, 15 month old bitch of quality with lots, she has an attractive head with a good width of skull, pronounced stop, pleasing eye colour, lovely frowning and kind expression. Strong neck into sloping shoulders with good width and depth of chest, well ribbed back into loin, muscular quarters with low hocks. She has good bone to legs and well padded round feet. Presented well with coat coming, stylish mover displaying good action and roll.

2. Penneman & Wakefield’s Norriss Northern Detective, 13 month old dog with masculine head of good proportions, defined stop and dark hazel eyes. Strong slightly arched neck set into well placed shoulders, elbows tucked in, ribcage of good length, muscled hindquarters and has lovely boned legs. Moved out well holding topline at all times. Just prefered the overall balance of the bitch today.

3. Wakefield’s Una Des Terres De Beaulieu (Imp) Fra.

1. Bull & Short’s Foxhampton Femme Fatale At Bakerscroft, 5 year old bitch displaying a balanced profile when stood. She has a feminine head with good eye shape and colour with correctly set ears giving a soft expression. Strong neck into well placed shoulders, has depth to chest, ribcage of good length and muscled hindquarters She has plenty of bone and large padded feet. Well presented in coat of good colour and texture and moved on a steady stride, RBOB.

2. Allen-Line’s Deckham Amber Sunrise, 3 year old feminine bitch with pleasing eye shape and colour. Displays good overall balance with strong neck leading into well placed shoulders, good forechest, has good conformation fore and aft is deep in body with ribs carried well back, has muscled hindquarters and strong boned legs, moved soundly.

3. Penneman & Wakefield’s Norriss Northern Detective.

1. Allen-Line’s Marquell Torshca Chaos, 5 year old dog of good overall balance and of good breed type with masculine head, correct width of skull, well defined stop and good expression. Strong slightly arched neck of good length set into sloping shoulders, he has a body of substance with ribs carried back to strong loin. He has well boned strong legs, round padded feet and muscled hindquarters. Presented in lovely flat silky coat nicely tipped and feathered and moved out soundly with correct rolling gait, BOB and pleased to watch him get shortlisted into last 8.

2. Penneman & Wakefield’s Ned Bel Sh Ch / Lux Ch Int Sh Ch Eald Village Temptress For Norriss, 6 year old bitch not in the best of coats today. Feminine head, good strength of skull with slight curve and well set ears. Strong neck, deep chest and well ribbed back into loin, stands on strong boned legs, moved ok.

1. Campbell & Brown’s Ronevorg Lady Wiv Attitude, 8 month old black puppy bitch of good type and balance for one so young. She has well developed clean lines to her head, lovely dark eye and correctly set ears. Clean in neck with good layback of shoulder, body of good depth with ribs well back, muscled quarters with good return of stifle. Shown in gleaming black coat with feathering coming, so positive on the move for one so young and with good tail action, BP.

1. Douglas’s Kalexas Upper Class At Greenbayhill, 17 month old bitch of quality with a very feminine head well moulded with clean lines, dark eye and correct dentition. She is balanced throughout with clean muscular neck leading into well placed shoulders, elbows in, is straight in front, good depth of brisket with ribs correctly sprung back into short loin. Excellent angles front and rear, stands on good bone and feet with well muscled quarters which enabled her to move with good reach and drive with good tail action. Shown well and presented in gleaming black flat textured coat, RBOB.

2. Carter’s Seaheart Effie At Harmarlanda, 13 month old black bitch with lots to like. She has a feminine correctly shaped head with kind expression from those dark eyes and correctly set ears. Head proudly carried on good neck set into well laid shoulders, body of good depth with ribs well back, muscled quarters with good return of stifle. Straight well boned forelegs, elbows well in and with tight feet. Stylish mover with true and very sound action.

3. Robinson’s Benvellyn Camdeboo.

1. Wilson’s Hameldowntor Pedro Ximene, 3 year old well built racy dog, he has a masculine long head with clean lines, dark eye and kind expression. Head carried well on strong muscular neck leading into good layback of shoulders, good body substance with depth to chest and brisket, he is well ribbed back and stands on strongly boned legs and compact feet. Muscular developed hindquarters which provided positive reach and drive holding his topline with correct tailset, shown in gleaming black flat textured coat and feathering.

2. Burroughs I Know Him So Well At Rokaness JW, 2 year old well balanced dog of good breed type with masculine head of good shape with gentle dark eye. Good length of neck into well laid back shoulders and a good return of upper arm, is deep in chest with ribs well sprung and carried back to short loin and goo tailset. Presented in lovely coat but not as positive in movement as the class winner on the day.

3. Carter’s Seaheart Dora At Harmarlanda.

1. Walker’s Gloi Dubh Just One Look, now nearly 4 years old this dog stood out in this class being so well constructed and with everything in proportion. He has a masculine head with flat skull and dark eyes an proudly carried on a clean neck leading into well laid shoulders, has an excellent front and rear angles. Deep in brisket with elbows in, has a good length of rib and muscular hindquarters, correct return of stifle, strong short hocks and good bone. Well presented in stunning black flat coat of dense texture and lovely feathering, moved effortlessly with good reach and drive, BOB.

2. Youens Riverglide Secret Reprieve, another 3 year old dog of quality, balanced throughout and full of breed type with a masculine head, almond dark eyes and well set ears. Good reach of neck set into correctly placed shoulders, has a body of substance, is deep chested with ribs back into short loin, has muscular rear quarters and correctly set tail which he used to advantage. Presented in lovely dense flat coat and movement did not disappoint, unfortunate to be up against class winner today.

3. Hewison’s Casblaidd Island In The Sky.
