KENT COUNTY CANINE ASSOCIATION - OPEN SHOW – 18 AUGUST 2024

Thank you to the Secretary and Committee for the invitation to judge at this well run Open Show and to my steward, Sharon Barkley, who ran the ring like clockwork, and to the exhibitors who entered under me with their quality dogs on this really hot day in Kent.

AVNSC GUNDOG

P. (8,2)

1. Watts Oakmarsh Little Acorn, 8month old Chesapeake Bay Retriever bitch with everything in proportion when stood, she has a lovely feminine head that is rounded and broad with eyes of good shape giving a kind expression. Strong moderate neck set into well laid shoulders, has straight forelegs, ribs well sprung for age and carried back to short loin, muscular hindquarters with good return of stifle and short hocks. Presented in a good harsh oily textured coat for her age, stylish mover with plenty of reach and drive, pleased to award her Best AVNSC Puppy and Puppy Group 1.

2. Bell’s Curlycrest’s Sweet Home Chicago (IMP NOR) TAF [ATC BB10157NOR], Flat Coated Retriever puppy dog of just 7months with lots to like. He has a masculine well moulded head with dark eye and correctly set ears. Clean in neck with good layback of shoulder, body of good depth with ribs well back, muscled quarters with good return of stifle. Shown in lovely black coat with feathering coming, so positive on the move for one so young with slashing tail.

1. Adams, Lewis, Lewis & Hird’s Irisbel A Million Dreams, 16 month old liver Field Spaniel bitch who has continued to develop well since I judged her as a puppy. She has a pleasing feminine head with plenty of work, is lean in muzzle, and has dark kind eyes. Strong clean neck set into well-placed shoulders, good depth to chest and with ribs going back to strong loin. Straight front with flat bone, tight round feet and with well-muscled hindquarters. Shown in coat of silky texture and moved with easy strides holding her topline at all times.

3. Tye’s Irisbel The Greatest Showman At Tymora, (Field Spaniel).

1. Tye’s Irisbel The Greatest Showman At Tymora, 16 month old liver Field Spaniel and litter brother to Junior winner. Masculine head with plenty of chiselling, dark eye of good shape and low set ears. He has a strong neck with good layback of shoulder, is straight in front with good forechest and ribs carried back. Stands on good bone and has well muscled hindquarters which he used to drive round the ring.

2. Watts Oakleaf Manor Bay Of Oakmarsh (IMP DEU) JW, 3 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever bitch with a well shaped feminine head proudly carried on strong neck set into well laid back shoulders, has good depth and width to ribcage, a strong loin leading to muscled hindquarters, good topline and correctly set and carried tail. Shown In lovely condition with the correct double waterproof coat and moved with style and purpose on well boned legs and good feet.

1. Bowen’s Clandrift Bring Me Sunshine JW KCWGC, quality 2 year old Flat Coated Retriever dog, is balanced throughout, very well constructed and his movement won him the class. Masculine head correctly moulded with slight stop, dark expressive eyes and well set ears. Good reach of neck set into correctly placed shoulders, has a body of substance, is deep chested with ribs back into strong loin, has muscular rear quarters and correctly set tail which he used to advantage. Scores in forechest, with tight elbows, plenty of bone and neat feet. Well presented in gleaming black flat coat of dense texture and lovely feathering, moved effortlessly with good reach and drive, pleased to award him Best AVNSC Gundog and Gundog Group 2.

2. Whittington’s Juldeane Line Of Duty (AI), 4 year old orange belton English Setter dog with lots to like, he has a masculine head but I would prefer more refinement in back skull. Good reach of neck, straight front with elbows in, has depth to chest, is compact in body with good spring of rib carried well back. Strong level topline, muscled hindquarters with a decent bend of stifle, he stands on good bone and neat feet. Shown in hard condition and moved well, Reserve Best AVNSC Gundog and pleased to watch him awarded Best RBOB in Show.

3. Pingault’s SH CH Taftazini Aiden Abbett, (German Shorthaired Pointer).

1. Dando’s Stormdancer Romance, 3 year old Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer bitch displaying a balanced outline when stood. She has a feminine head of good length and lean, almond shaped eyes and correct dentition. Strong neck of medium length leading into well laid back shoulders, has straight front legs, good depth to chest with ribs well sprung and carried back, muscled hindquarters with correct angulation and tailset. Well presented in straight harsh outer coat, positive in movement holding her topline at all times, Best AV Imported Breed Register Gundog and pleased to award her Gundog G3.

2. Burles Gameglow Beewitched, 2 year old Braque D’Auvergne bitch with a very attractive head of good length with slightly divergent planes, oval eyes of good colour giving a kind expression. Clean in neck leading to good lay of shoulder, chest of good depth, she is well ribbed back, level topline and well angulated hindquarters. Could not match the movement of class winner on the day, Reserve Best AV Imported Breed Register Gundog.

1. Tye’s Roydack Black Knight At Tymora, 10 month old dog full of exuberance, raw and looking rangy at the moment and just needs more time to fill his frame. Having said that he has a lovely masculine head with well defined stop, expressive eyes and low set ears. He has a long arched neck set into correctly placed shoulders, has good depth to chest with well sprung ribs for age, a firm level topline, is straight in front with elbows in and stands on strong flat boned forelegs. Shown in gleaming black coat with rich tan markings, but let down on his movement today, BP.

1. Williams Longrow Love Is The Drug, 2 year old bitch, well balanced throughout and clean in outline. She has a very feminine head with dark expressive eyes, correct stop and has depth to her muzzle. Good reach of neck, is well angulated front and rear with good depth to chest and level topline, has straight flat boned legs and tight compact oval feet, moved freely with slashing tail, RBOB.

O. (2)

1. Whiting’s DT CH Locksheath Princess Tiana JW, 6 year old bitch of quality correctly put together and full of breed type. She has a lovely head with low set ears and dark eye giving a soft expression. Lean neck leading into well placed shoulders, excellent front assembly with a good spring of rib, level topline, strong loin, a good bend of stifle, short hocks and correct tailset. She has straight well boned legs, tight compact oval feet and moved freely with slashing tail. Presented in excellent coat and condition, BOB.

2. Gunnery’s Longrow Love Of My Life (AI), 5 year old bitch smaller in stature but balanced throughout. Feminine head of good shape with dark expressive eyes, correct and good length to her muzzle. She has a long lean neck leading into well laid back shoulders with a good return of upper arm, correct topline and tail set, is compact in body with ribs well sprung. Moved freely with slashing tail but a fidget when stood.

1. Perren’s Evaluna For Your Eyes Only At Mistin, 7 month old black & white bitch, elegant and looking very impressive for her age. She has a very feminine head of good proportions with dark expressive eyes, good foreface and dish. Long arched neck flowing into well placed shoulders, is straight in front, has good bone and tight feet, good depth of chest and spring of rib for age, firm in topline and muscled hindquarters. Presented in lovely condition and moved effortlessly around the ring with good tail action which won her the class. I am sure she will have a promising show career, pleased to award her BP and PG2.

2. Kennedy’s Droveborough’s Hells Bells, 6 months old liver & white puppy, another showing promise with lots to like. She has a pleasing feminine head of good shape, dark alert eyes and good depth of muzzle. Strong neck of good length leading into correct layback of shoulder, good depth to chest, well angled body with good substance and depth for age, correctly ribbed back into a short loin and good tail. Moved soundly once settled with good reach and drive using her tail to advantage

3. Dighton’s Evaluna Keep Your Eyes On Me.

1. Barham’s Alozia Zephryne, 13 month old liver & white bitch displaying a balanced outline when stood. She has an appealing head with well defined stop, dark eye and kind expression. Long neck into good shoulders, has depth to chest, ribs developing and carried back into short loin, firm topline, muscled rear quarters and correct tailset. Has straight forelegs with good oval bone and compact feet. Moved soundly around the ring with plenty of drive from rear.

2. Cobden’s Alozia Zantini, 13 month old liver & white bitch and litter sister to class winner. Liked her feminine balanced head with good eye shape and expression. She has a strong muscular neck set into clean sloping shoulders, a firm topline, is well muscled with plenty of bone and good feet, has balanced angulation throughout, has lovely tail action. Splitting hairs but not as positive in movement of 1st on the day.

1. Wynne-Evans Droveborough’s Frost Queen, 20 month old black & white bitch, she has a very feminine head, well chiselled with dark kind eye. Clean neck and shoulders with a good return of upper arm, has depth to chest, well rounded ribs with elbows in. She Is straight in front with good oval bone, sloping pasterns and compact feet, firm topline and muscled rear quarters. Presented in lovely coat and condition, very sound mover in true pointer style, close up in challenge.

2. Barham’s Droveborough’s Mocha Mayhem, 4 year old liver & white bitch clean in outline with appealing head, well defined stop, dark eye and kind expression. She has a good reach neck of good length leading into correct layback of shoulder, is straight in front, has good depth to chest with ribs sprung and carried back, good turn of stifle and well set tail. Shown in lovely condition and held her shape on the move.

3. Welsh’s Hookwood Starman JW.

1. Welch, Maber & Hazeltine’s Sharnphilly Toggi With Hookwood JW, 6year old black & white bitch of quality showing good overall balance when stood. She has a pleasing feminine head of good shape, well defined stop, and plenty of chiselling under her dark eyes giving a kind expression. Soundly constructed, is clean in neck, deep in brisket, with elbows in, well sprung ribs carried back to a firm loin, she has strong hindquarters which have width and lovely sweep of stifle. Presented in hard condition with good head and tail carriage, pleased to award her BOB and Gundog Group 1, well done.

2. Perren’s Evaluna Chasing Rainbows With Hookwood JW, 3 year old black & white another lovely bitch with lots to like. Feminine head of good proportions with dark kind eye. Long slightly arched neck into well placed shoulders, good depth to body with well sprung ribs carried back, is straight in front, has lovely straight oval boned legs and tight feet, firm topline and muscled hindquarters. Well presented in striking coat with super tail carriage held on the move. Close decision but just preferred the ring presence of 1st on the day, RBOB.

3. Wynne-Evans Droveborough’s Royal Flush.

1. Barham’s Kenwardgold Minnie Me VW, 9 year old L/W ticked Pointer presenting a balanced outline when stood. She has a lovely feminine head with well defined stop, dark eye and soft expression. Good reach of neck leading into correct layback of shoulder and return of upper arm, good depth to her forechest, well ribbed body with a short strong loin, muscled hindquarters and correct tailset. Straight forelegs with good oval bone, compact feet and balanced angulation throughout. Presented in hard condition and moved effortlessly around the ring with good tail action, BV Gundog.

2. Pounds-Longhurst’s Rosgar Dolly O’Dare Among Mossburn, 7 year old mid gold Golden Retriever, she has a pleasing feminine head with kind eye and soft expression. Strong neck set into well placed shoulders, good depth to chest with deep ribcage and elbows in, short coupled body, firm topline and strong rounded hindquarters, she has plenty of bone and neat feet. Well handled and covered the ring with purpose and drive.

3. Welch’s IR SH CH Oxfordacres Trinity By Hookwood JW ShCM VW, (Pointer).

Strong neck into sloping shoulders, is straight in front, well ribbed for age with well rounded rear and has good bone with compact feet. Presented in lovely coat and sound on the move.

PG3. Allen’s Timouron Lady Killer, (Labrador), 7 month old chocolate dog displaying balance and substance with a lovely proportioned head and kind alert eyes. He has a clean neck leading into well laid shoulders, is straight in front, has good depth to chest and spring of rib for age, is short coupled, has muscled hindquarters and good bone with neat feet. Moved straight and true covering plenty of ground.

PG4. Williams & Toublic’s Cobhay Dashing Dandelion, (English Springer Spaniel), 11 month old L/W dog maturing well in rib and muscletone since I judged him as a younger puppy. He has a pleasing masculine head of good shape with a dark kindly eye and soft expression. Good reach of neck, is straight in front with good depth of chest and spring of rib, has moderately angulated quarters, plenty of bone with compact feet. Presented in lovely coat and condition and moved with an effortless easy stride.
