Firstly thank you to the officers and committee for the invitation to judge at your lovely show, fantastic hospitality and friendly atmosphere. Secondly thank you to the exhibitors who entrusted my judgement with their lovely dogs. Really grateful to my steward for the day, Nige, who was great company and kept the ring flowing.
Labrador Retrievers.
Puppy (6,2) 1. Fosters – Rochevale Beal. For 11 months old this youngster shows great promise, lots of substance, good outline, breadth and depth to chest, head nicely shaped, broad and with a good defined stop, well boned throughout, neck strong placed into well set shoulders, level across the topline to a well set and rounded tail with plenty of thick short hair, feet rounded and compact, rear quarters strong with a good bend to stifle, moved strongly with purpose in a steady free moving action. BPIB. 2. Evans – Trendlewood Long Time Comin. Another super puppy with a lovely outline, also has good depth to the body and good rib, head with a nice stop, showing a nice dark eye, well set shoulders and strong across the topline, front well boned, feet firm and rounded, nicely short in couplings with strength, good bend in stifle, movement was steady and with good straight action.
Post Graduate (3,1) 1. Kent’s – Trewinnard Bespoke. Nice looking bitch with a well balanced outline, head nicely shaped not too heavy with a good eye, neck clean and strong, well laid back long shoulder, front nice and straight with good bone, feet compact and rounded, topline level and neat across short couplings, good tail set, well ribbed and of good depth in body, rear quarters with a good bend to stifle and well toned 1st and 2nd thighs, movement was sound smooth and with an easy ground covering action. 2. Perkins – McFarwin’s Grey Legacy by Keeninspires. Showing strength in outline with a level topline, head of a good width and defined stop, nice eye, strong through neck into a well laid shoulder, front with good bone and neat feet, rear with a nice shape, toned in thighs, movement was a little wayward compared to 1st today but was still with plenty of reach.
Limit (3,1) 1. Mills – Jaybec Winter Wispa JW. Bitch with a super outline, catching my eye on entering the ring, level across the topline from a well laid long shoulder, tail with a good dense covering, front straight with plenty of strong bone, chest of good depth and width, short coupled wide in the loin, rear angulation well developed, good bend in stifle carrying plenty of well toned muscle on thighs, strong rounded compact feet, coat in great condition, movement with a free ground covering action that flowed around the ring. BOB. 2. Jeffery – Lembas Swings Both Ways at Mibridge. What a gentle old fella he is, having a whale of time enjoying his day out, full of character with a lovely expression, head with good shape and still with a nice eye, neck strong, well boned in front, with plenty of good rib on wide and deep chest, rear angulation with good bend in stifle and well muscled thighs, tail never stopped waging, clever old chap.
Open (2) 1. Mills – Trendlewood Day Dreaming. Well presented and of good outline carrying a level topline, head of good type with a nice eye, neck strong and well laid into a long sloping shoulder, well ribbed in body, showing depth and width to chest, strong across loin, stifle well bent and with strong toned muscle on thighs, feet compact and rounded, driven movement that was smooth and free. 2. Fishlock’s – Carpenny Halshimoor Delicious (AI). Very close to 1st with build and outline, head of good proportions and a nice eye, strong neck and neat in shoulder, good bone throughout, feet strong rounded and compact, good depth and width to chest carrying good rib, level in topline and with good tail set, good bend in stifle and well toned in muscle, movement was steady when settled after a little bounce.
Cocker Spaniel
Limit (3) 1. Small’s – Albertean Minerva. Sturdy and well balanced, full of character and with a tail that didn’t stop, great outline carrying a level topline, head with defined stop, good dark full eye, good feel and shape the ears, neck strong muscular and set well into a good lay of shoulder, well boned in front nice and straight, ribs well sprung through a compact deep brisket, couples short and strong gently sloping to a good set on tail, rear well rounded and strong, good bend on stifle with well toned thighs, movement was driven from a strong rear with plenty of ground covering action. 2. Smith’s – Mundusmeus Out of Reach. Happy girl with a neat outline, level across the topline, head with neat plains and lovely expression, good dark eye, body strong and well developed, good spring to rib, front assembly with good bone a straight, rear quarters good and well muscled, stifle with a shape for driven movement, which was true in action.
Open (1) 1. Salmon’s – Crimicar Indigo Eclips ShCEx. Well balanced compact dog with a lovely outline, good proportions to head and a well defined stop, good dark eye giving an affectionate expression, ears set low and of a good texture and shape, front assembly with plenty of good bone and nice straight legs, neck muscular and set well into fine and sloping shoulders, chest well developed and with plenty of well sprung rib, short loin with good muscle, rear quarters with a good bend to stifle, well toned muscle to 1st and 2nd thighs, movement was driven covering the ground easily with good straight action. BOB.
American Cocker Spaniel
Post Graduate (1,1)
Open (1) 1. Sheppard’s – SH CH Nasaileen On A Mission At Shadowview. Fantastic looking dog of good quality, great in outline, head with good shape and with defined stop, well formed eyebrow and nice dark eye, ears with good length and shape, neck long and well toned with a slight arch, shoulders well set deep and sloping, chest was deep and to elbow, deep well sprung ribs, neat slight slope down to tail, hind quarters with good angulation and well toned with muscle, rear pastern strong to give good drive, movement was effortless reaching and full of straight action covering the ring easily. BOB.
Field Spaniels
Post Graduate (4,2, 1w/d). Prew’s – Redeswell Albus Allure. Well balanced and good looking outline entering the ring, very dignified and proud looking, head with defined occiput and moderate stop, not heavy at all, nice and dark in eye, neck long and strong, shoulders well laid and sloping to straight well boned front, tight feet, chest deep and with well sprung rib, back to loin strong and level, well toned 1st and 2nd thighs on moderate bend of stifle, coat in a good condition, flat and with a lovely silky texture, movement was driven from the rear in a long ground covering stride.
Open (5,1) 1. Willcock’s – Ustorpabyns Fields First Time to Dynarkaraky (Imp Swe). Great looking and full of confidence on entering the ring, outline typical and even relaxed had the level topline, head with good shape and proportions, with a nice dark eye, neck muscular and strong fitting nicely into a good lay of shoulder, front assembly neat, straight and with good bone, feet round and firm, chest deep and well developed and with a good spring of rib, strength and muscle tone evident in back and loin, strong in rear with plenty of well toned muscle, hocks firm and rear pasterns short for that driven requirement on the move, which was ground covering and smooth. BOB. 2. Porter, Russell & Palm’s – Bogdogs Brynnyth At Winsbrook. Another strong contender with all the attributes needed of the breed, head showing no coarseness and with a good clean dark eye, neck long and strongfitting well into a well laid shoulder, straight flat bone at the front, feet firm and rounded, brisket deep and ribs well back to couplings, topline to loin strong, rear quarters with good muscle and stifle moderate in bend, movement was with a long steady gait covering the ring with ease.
Golden Retrievers
Puppy (4) 1. Scuffle & Ennis Van Maren’s – Ramchaine A Red Red Rose (ATC BB47060NLD) At just 7 months old and showing all the attributes of a classic Golden, plenty of attitude and look at me on entering the ring, caught me eye straight away, great outline and held a level topline, head showing no coarseness and with good proportions, eyes dark brown and set well with a dark rim, clean and muscular in the neck and set well into a good lay of shoulder, forelegs straight and with good bone, upperarm of good length to keep elbow well under, chest deep and with a well sprung rib, short coupled through a strong loin, rear strong with a defined well toned second thigh, stifles well bent for giving the driven gait required, this was powerful and ground covering making it look easy BPIB. 2. Main’s – Putjade Perran By Gwyngala. Another promising youngster with a good overall outline, steady in the free stand holding the level topline, head of good size and proportions with a nice dark eye, neck strong and long set to a nice lay in shoulder, feet round and sound, front assembly with good straight bone, good length to upperarm, depth to chest giving plenty of heart room and of good sound rib, loin strong and not long, hind quarters showing strength and well toned muscle, coat in good condition, movement was driven from the strong rear covering the ring easily.
Post Graduate (6,3) 1. Smyth’s – Kadaka Krumpet. Definitely female with a soft warm expression, from a good dark eye set on a head of well developed plains, no coarseness or heaviness to it, strong long neck set into a good lay of shoulder, overall outline was good and she held her level topline all the time, good front assembly, good depth to chest for heart room, well sprung in ribs and short in couplings, loin strong and well toned, rear with good bend in stifle and both 1st and 2nd thighs showing a good tone to muscle, movement was strong and driven with a free flowing stride. 2. Porter Mrs M & Miss S – Shearstone Janner. Well defined and good looking dog, initial outline on entering the ring was good, first free stack held a level topline, head of good shape and proportions with a nice dark eye, neck strong, clean in throat and of a good length set into a well laid back shoulder, good length to upperarm and forelegs with good bone, chest deep and giving plenty of heart room, couplings short and strong with a good feel to the loin, rear assembly was good moderate bend in stifle, showing well toned 1st and a defined 2nd thigh, he covered the ground with little effort, driven from the strong rear.
Limit (4) 1. Merrick’s – Warrentor Tourmakeady. Good looking dog with a great outline entering the ring, head with a good well defined stop all with good equal proportions, eye full of expression and dark, neck is strong and of a good length set into a good lay back in shoulder, front assembly sound with nice bone in straight forelegs, good depth to chest for plenty of heart room, good spring of rib, loin strong and holds well on the stack across a level topline, rear with a good bend to stifle strong and well toned throughout, movement had reach and drive covering the ring with ease. 2. Henson’s – Cinderbank Move It JW. Strong exhibit that pushed 1st very hard, showing good outline and a strong level topline, head of good equal proportions, defined stop and a good dark eye, front assembly with good bone, elbows well under, chest deep with a good spring to rib, loin strong and muscular, rear with a good bend to stifle with well toned thighs, driven strong ground covering movement made for a close call for 1st.
Open Dog (7,3) 1. Fenn – Chalksville Highlander At Jandeburn. Came into the ring like a boss full of confidence, balanced and powerful looking, definitely ‘look at me’, outline was a picture and all the time holding the level topline, head with good proportions, good stop, and a nice dark eye, no coarseness or heaviness, neck strong and well muscled, sitting into a good lay of shoulder, forequarters with good bone on straight forelegs, feet firm and round, chest good and deep and with plenty of heart room, ribs well sprung and deep to neat short couplings, loin is strong and wide, 1st and 2nd thighs strong and well defined full of well toned muscle, well bent in stifle to give that drive required, coat in good condition with a good feel to the undercoat, his movement was the best of the day and was driven, ground covering and flowed without effort. BOB. 2. Porter Mrs & Miss - Shearstone Janner. Repeat.
Open Bitch (5,3) 1. Smyth’s – Kadaka Krumpet. Repeat. BOS. 2. Perry – Stormhayes Spring Willow. Good overall outline and holding a nice level topline, head with nice equal plains, good dark eye and lovely expression, neck strong, muscular and well set into a good lay back in shoulder, forelegs straight and with good bone, chest deep and with a good spring to rib, loin with good amount of muscle and this carried down to a strong rear, good bend in stifle and well toned muscle in thighs, movement was driven from the well formed rear quarters.
Curly Coated Retriever
Post Graduate (3) 1. Courtier’s – Maycourt Cover Shot. 20 months old and with a great outline, looking strong and steady on entering the ring, head with lovely equal plains and with a good eye colour, neck strong and not too long set into a well laid back shoulder, strength in upper arm and straight forelegs, strong in pastern and with tight rounded feet, chest is deep and with plenty of well sprung rib, these extending back to a short well toned loin, rear quarters showing strength at 1st and 2nd thigh on a moderate bend to stifle, again there is a show of strength in the rear pasterns, not too long for that driven gait, which had a good reach allowing for a ground covering action. 2. Harris – Brightmeadow Wish Come True At Dreamcurl. Lovely youngster with a lot to like, good in outline and full of confidence, good shaping to head, with equal proportions on parallel plains, eyes of a good dark colour, neck not to long and showing strength , set in a well laid back shoulder, good well sprung ribs in a deep chest reaching down to elbow, feel of strength and power in the loin, and good hindquarters again well toned, movement was as a little wayward but at 10 months old enjoying the day was more important. BPIB.
Open (2) 1. Courtier’s – Maycourt take Me Top The Top. Lovely looking bitch in a great condition showing a good outline and presence, head well to type and of loveley equal plains, eye colour good and set well, neck strong and set nicely to a well laid back shoulder, front construction muscular and in proportion to the overall size, straight forelegs and strong in pastern, chest deep to elbow and with plenty of sound spring in the rib, loin strong and well toned, hind quarters good and 1st and 2nd thighs well muscled, hocks well let down so rear pasterns show no weakness, ideal for a driven free flowing gait that covered the ring with ease. BOB. 2. Edworthy Mrs – Maycourt Heartbreaker. Strong looking substantive boy, good on the outline, head with good proportion sand a neat eye of good colour, neck again showing strength and well set to a nice lay of shoulder, good depth to chest allowing brisket to reach down to elbow, loin with width and well toned, rear quarters of good proportions and with well toned muscle, movement was effortless and with drive.
Bracco Italiano
Post Graduate (2) 1. Critchley’s – Bracciano Now or Never. Cracking youngster with a good outline showing all the characteristics of the breed, very distinctive, long well shaped head good cheeks and with a defined occiput, really soft expression in the eye and of a pleasing colour, neck strong not excessively long set into good well toned laid back shoulder, front with nice oval bone on a straight foreleg, good depth and width to chest with a good spring to rib, loin powerful wide well muscled, slight slope on topline, good bend in stifle with well proportioned strong 1st and 2nd thigh, rear pasterns of correct length, feet tight and toes arched, fantastic powerful driving action on the move covering the ground with ease. BOB. BPIB. 2. Bramley, Holdstock, Fretwell& Markin – Piccorino Praise Be. Stunning in outline and initially was giving her all, unfortunately she took a dislike to her surroundings and was a little distracted, although I did get to see and feel how well built she is, good shape to head and with good overall measurements, defined occiput, strong neck set well into a good lay of shoulder, front strong and oval bone, no weakness in pasterns, chest deep and full to elbow, good spring to rib, strong in loin and croup, rear angulation good with well toned muscle, just a shame she lost it on her movement, different venue may have resulted in a different outcome.
