DUKERIES (NOTTS) GUNDOG CLUB – SATURDAY 17th FEBRUARY 2024

GERMAN SHORTHAIRED POINTER

I would like to thank the Committee for the appointment at such a relaxed, friendly and well run show. Also a big thank you to my lovely Steward, Clare, who kept the ring running smoothly. Lastly I would like to show my appreciation to the exhibitors for such an exceptional entry of quality GSP’s. They did not make the job easy but every one of them made me smile. It was a pleasure to Judge them. Overall, I was impressed with being presented with so much breed type. All had lovely teeth, coats were correct, and there was not a hint of a bad temperament. With such quality of construction I found I was splitting hairs. With fit for function in mind, weight and condition did influence my decision as some were a little lean and others carrying a tad too much weight. Muscle tone could also have been better in some. Many would have changed places on any other day and there were just not enough cards for the line up in front of me.

1 Ellis and Ellis’s Soellis Feryl Beryl 11 month old bitch with everything you would want in the correct place. In good condition with a lovely expression. Well arched neck, good lay of shoulder and well sprung rib. I have seen her look better in outline but put that down to age. She moved well and I look forward to seeing how she matures.

2 Shepherd’s Orchidstar Platinum Strike 7 months old and what a sweet young man that did his handler proud. Longer in the body than 1 and lean as young male GSP’s often are. Beautiful feet, undeniably male head, soft expression and most definitely made me smile.

1 Pearson’s Sh Ch Winterwell Lulu Moppet To Ladyhawke Jw. What can I say, from her nose to her tail she is every inch, and undeniably, a GSP. Beautiful in outline and true on the move. Feminine head with a dark eye and good ear set. Lovely strong, but graceful, neck into correct shoulders. Strong top line and hind quarters. Covered the ground with ease. BOB. I was thrilled to watch her perform again and be awarded Second Best in Show.

2 Ellis & Ellis Soellis Fancy Nancy. Feminine head into good neck and shoulders. Moved well with nothing overdone. Handled so well she earned her place on condition and presentation.
