Southern Irish Terrier Society Open Show 26th May 2024
I would just like to take the opportunity to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge my first Irish Terrier Open Show, it was the greatest honour to be there with the wonderful Irish Terrier exhibitors.
Special thanks to my steward and secretary who both did an excellent job, getting through the few admin issues with no impact.
Overall, a wonderful entry of Irish Terriers, displaying the epitome of the breed standard, with their lively appearance even through the heavy downpour of rain that we had.
All exhibits showed good health, condition, and temperament especially on the table which can be a challenge in a wet and windy ring. Exhibitors and dogs were immaculately turned-out, you all did your breed proud.
I would like to thank you all for your entries, the good nature shown in my decisions on the day, and the positive feedback given to me following the show.
Class 1 Veteran (5/ 4)

8 years old with good long head. Dark in eye, with good V shaped ears, set well. Forequarters set well and straight legs. Rib fairly sprung, back showing strength to a nice well set tail. Well let down hocks, good correct bend of stifle and excellent feet and pads. Coat in perfect condition and well presented. Moved with good drive from rear and responded well with handler.
BViS and RBB
2nd Karau, P&A, Balirolyat Molly’s a Diva
A nice pleasing bitch, nearly 8-year-old. Correct feminine head, slightly shorter than 1st, Ears well placed and carried well. Pleasing movement, she moved well across the ring with a balanced drive and pushed for first place.

Class 2 Baby Puppy
No entries
Class 3 PD (3/2)
1st Lee, Miss V, Ivyblue Red Moonlight
A 7 month old dog, showing typical puppy enthusiasm on entering the ring. Well constructed and developing well. Nice overall head for age, and loved the expression, coat harsh and nice colour. Moved well across ring to give it the edge in this class
Awarded BPD and BOSP
2nd Cooke, A, Montelle Flash Light to Lionwood
This dog at just over 9 months, slightly fuller in body and maturer than 1st, was a little unsettled on the table, not helped by the weather conditions. In profile he had a good clean outline, movement was correct. I am sure that on another day these 2 will be swapping places on a regular basis.
Class 4 JD (1/1)
1st Print and Thomas, Bilarny Hotcross Bun
Stood alone in his class but a worthy 1st place. 13 months old and shown to perfection by his handler. Correct, pleasing head, of good length and correct ear set. Provided a good outline on the move carrying straight and parallel, covering the ring with ease.
Class 5 PGD (2/2)
1st Print and Thomas, Bilarny Hotcross Bun
As above
2nd Simons, J, Brucephella Quito Berry
A maturer dog at nearly 19 months. Overall, well-constructed and balanced. Excelled in head profile, giving a classic stylish look about him. Another dog unsettled by the horrible weather conditions which sadly affected his movement and was not showing his best today.
Class 6 LD (4/2)
1st Ruffles, Mary. Holbam Midsummer Knight JW
A 22-month dog presented in great coat, correct colour and texture with a good long head, ears set well on head, and nice dark eyes. Good balanced proportions which reflected in excellent movement. Well handled, getting the best out of the dog at all times.
Awarded RBD
2nd Anderson, Kerrykell Damhaic
18-month-old dog, presented in excellent condition. Correct head, eye and ears. Excellent well-constructed body and everything in proportion. Correct coat for texture and colour, overall, a dog clearly fit for purpose. He lost out to the 1st on movement today, again potentially not helped by the poor weather conditions,
Class 7 OD (2/2)
1st Price, A & J, Magairlin Silver Spur
A lovely maturing dog of 5.25years. Good length of head with well set ears and nice Irish expression in his dark eyes to go with it. Coat free of softness and good to touch. Topline was good on table and when moving, and a correctly set tail. Moved well in the ring to gain 1st today.
Awarded BD and BOSiS
2nd Nevill, JE & JD, Norkin an Stor at Rosemonelle
Another nice maturing dog of just over 5yrs, lighter in colour than 1st but again well put together, a little bit unsettled and movement not as positive as the first.
Class 8 PB (1/1)
1st Lee, Miss V, Ivyblue Red Sunlight
A promising 7-month-old bitch, showing typical puppy traits at the start of her showing journey. Confident in herself and calm on the table, growing into a feminine and well-constructed Irish Terrier. Correct head, with good length, narrowing where she needs to and no signs of fullness. Moved well across the ring with elbows free of side and calmer than what I found out later was her brother in the dog puppy class.
Awarded BPB and BPiS
Class 9 JB (2/2)
1st Gummow, J, Pimleygreen Irish Star for Montelle
A sister of the 2nd place bitch, great shaped and long flat head, quality showing throughout the forequarters from well set shoulders down. Coat is correct to the standard, of correct colour and texture. Moved across the ring well. Well-handled which gave her the better of her sister today
2nd Hardman, B, Pimleygreen Juy
Very similar to her sister, in most ways, at just under 13 months, but just didn’t move as well as her today
Class 10 PGB (3/3)
1st Anderson, Kerrykeel Caragh
18-month-old bitch, good proportions showing correct feminine head with no dished foreface, good neck length down to well laid shoulders. Coat in correct colour and in perfect condition. Moved out well and pipped the 2nd today on movement.
2nd Bradshaw, Miss M, Holbam Midsummer Sprite
22 month old girl, with a well balanced and correctly developed head. Framed by correctly set ears and with a pleasing dark eye. Correct shoulders and forequarters allowing drive on the move. Coat in good harsh condition.
3rd Fitter, Dr A, Ghyllslap Limerick
Class 11 LB (5/4)
1st Redman, Mrs E, Holbam Freya JW
Good example of a feminine Irish Terrier of just under 22 months, nice head and lovely expression of her face, nice dark eyes, coat in good condition and she moved well across the ring well holding her topline.
2nd Atkin, Mr R & Mrs J, Holbam Celtic Rose JW
Another well conditioned Irish Terrier, ears of small v-shaped set well, enough harshness to the coat giving correct wiry appearance and good colour. Well muscled fore and hind quarters allowing good movement around the ring.

4th Lovelace, M, Dotsfirth Pearls a Singer
Class 12 OB (6/5)
1st Bentley, K, CH Norakim Tango of Newguild
This 3 year old bitch came into the ring with something about her, well built and with a great outline while standing. Head, ears and eyes working together giving a feminine look with substance behind it. Fore and hind quarters working in harmony together to get the best out of her movement keeping her gait straight and parallel.
Awarded BB and BiS
2nd Wartley, S, Jarabica Grace O’Malley
Another well proportioned bitch looked and moved well, excellent condition at 5.5 years. A lovely typical Irish head with nice dark eyes, and ear set well on head. Well presented overall. Moved well and was unlucky to come up against the 1st placed bitch today. There was a lot I liked about her.
