Lichfield Canine Society

Premier Open Show January 7th 2024

I would just like to take the opportunity to thank the committee and secretary for inviting me to judge my first Manchester Terrier classes at this level, a day that I have been looking forward to for a while. And special thanks to my steward who did a grand job not just for me.

Overall, a wonderful entry of Manchester Terriers at this well-run show, displaying the epitome of the breed standard, great colour, and markings in all dogs across the classes, sizes were good with none on the limits of the standard.

All showing good health, condition, and temperament especially on the table which can be a challenge in a noisy hall with this breed. Immaculately turned-out exhibitors and dogs, you all did your breed proud. Would like to thank you all for your entries and good nature shown by all in my decisions on the day.

Class 663 Puppy

1st Symes & Pease, Mrs E & Mr D, Hurrockheath Rylands

Standing alone in the class, this young dog at just over 10 months is an improving and maturing dog, stood solid on table and allow me to go over him with ease. A nice flat and wedge-shaped skull, good dark eyes. A little lively on his movement out but settled around the ring and then moved well, with a nice topline. Nice overall markings and of good size. Awarded BPiB

Class 664 Junior

1st Plant Mrs L J, Spring Wren at Plantocracy

Lovely looking girl at 16 months old showing a good Manchester outline with well-sprung ribs and good bend at stifle, very feminine features, and great markings. She has all the good things you want to see in a Manchester girl, great wedge-shaped head and well carried ears, well-made front and hind quarters making her move out well, composed and alert to her handler

2nd O’Boyle Mrs, Ruffagga I’m the Man

Not as confident as the 1, at 13 months stood on the table a little in trepidation as I approached, had all the correct markings and was able to go over him. Movement was not as fluid or with as much drive as the first dog on the day

Class 665 Post Graduate

1st Lomas Miss C, Hurrockheath Miss Emmeline

Standing alone but standing out. At just over 2 years old is maturing very nicely and is showing better with age being more confident on the table and movement. Front is straight and chest is now a little deeper than when she was younger. Another with very feminine features, of good size and to breed standard and a good looking and feeling coat, correct full markings. Moved well with drive across and around the ring holding her topline well. Happy to place her BoB today

Class 666 Open

1st Barlow Mrs D, Ch Talanors time for Magic

A maturing dog that is good for his age, good size to breed standard and all in proportion giving a great profile. At over 5 still having good markings and colour to go with them. Moved well in class showing good balance and drive but became a little unsettled at the challenge stage. Awarded RBoB

2nd Straughan & Cripps Mrs C & Mr D, CH Talanors Time to Shine at Mannikai

Another lovely feminine Manchester, I have seen her develop since a puppy and still can shine in the ring at 5 ¼. Coat was in good condition and all breed standard markings on show. Was shown to her best today and her handler got everything out of her, well-constructed which could be seen in her movement

3rd Plant Mrs L J, Plantocracy Bold Bruce JW

4th Boot Mr C & Mrs D, Ysabelkid Calamity Jane with Harliboo

5th Forshaw Mr P & Mrs J M Jandor Moonlight Melody
