Kirkcaldy & District Canine Club

Breed: Hound Group (ex Whippets)

Grateful thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge the Hound Group at their outdoor opens show. Sadly, attendance on the day was decimated by a parvo scare in the local area. In the besttradition, the show went on and I hope all the hound exhibitors enjoyed their day albeit it was a rather windy one. AFGHAN HOUND O (2, 2). BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN (PETIT) G (1, 0) 1 Wyllie’sCallydena Rachecco Rising 2 years of age, this pretty orange and white bitch unfortunately stood alone. Typical rough coat, pleasing head and dark oval eye. Ears set low and strong neck leading into well-laidback shoulders. Good length of back and correct tail carriage. BOB. O (1, 0) 1 Wyllie’s Callydena Mowdie Miss Chief 4-year-old orange and white dam of Graduate class winner to whom similar comments apply although shorter in length than her progeny who out-moved her today. BASSET HOUND O (1, 1). BEAGLE J (1, 1), G (1, 1), O (2, 1) 1 Deans’ Ch Gempeni Cornflower ShCEx My notes say “love everything about her”. A quality 5-year-old tricolour bitch who just filled my eye. Balanced throughout with powerful head, good length of neck, shoulders well laid back, level topline, deep chest, good tail carriage and neat feet. Her well-muscled quarters allowed her to move freely and with drive around our good-sized ring. True coming and going. BOB and delighted to later award her HG1. BORZOI O (1, 1). DACHSHUND (MINI SMOOTH HAIRED) O (3, 2) 1 Bain’s Clentry Rewrite The Stars 3-year-old black and tan bitch. Nice example. Moderately long with no exaggeration, typical head, clean neck running into smooth well-angled shoulders, pleasing topline with slight rise over the loin. Ribbed well back. Adequate ground clearance. Moved well in profile. DACHSHUND (MINI WIRE HAIRED) O (3, 1) 1 Gilroy’s Dachienne Everyday Life Very smart 17-month-old chocolate and tan bitch with nicely furnished breed typical coat. Bold head carriage, ears well set on and good length of neck. Moderately long in body and well-muscled. Strong hindquarters propelled her around the ring. 2 Goodbrand’s Bargemon Soft As Starlight for Braesnobel 6-month-old wild boar bitch with good ground clearance. Long neck leading into topline with slight rise over loin. Prominent breast bone and ribbed well back. Moved out well for one so young. DACHSHUND (MINI LONG HAIRED) O (3, 1) 1 Morrin’s Zilcan Magic Moments Pretty red girl of just 6 months. Pleasing head and expression. Prominent breast bone and good return of upper arm. Would’ve preferred a little more length of body but still has some maturing to do. Moved well in all directions.

2 Morrin’s Zilcan Vanilla Ice Litter brother to 1 and similar comments apply. More body length than his sister but overall was a little more raw. Nevertheless, splitting hairs to separate the two. Special mention must go to his wonderful and polite young handler who did a fantastic job of presenting his charge. DACHSHUND (SMOOTH HAIRED) O (2, 1) 1 Balfour’s Clentry Mango Passion I liked this 2-year-old red bitch very much. Head neither too broad nor too narrow, sloping gradually into long, strong muzzle and jaw. Dark eye, broad, well-rounded ears, clean neck and good shoulder angulation. Ribbed well back, short, strong loin and hindquarters. Moved well in profile holding topline. Pleased to later award HG3. DACHSHUND (WIRE HAIRED) O (3, 1) 1 Tinker-Haldane & Haldane’s Dollydash Never Enough 5-year-old wild boar dog with masculine head, strong neck. Good bone, well bodied with harsh coat. Would like to have seen better head carriage. Moved steadily. 2 Christie’s Tannahill Bergen at Decalleigh Preferred overall shape and movement of this 5-year-old wild boar dog but a longer ribcage and a shorter, stronger loin would help to hold topline better on the move. DACHSHUND (LONG HAIRED) O (1, 0) 1 Sloan, Dunbar and McNaughton’s Cedavoch Dark Magic Striking black and tan 3-year-old dog with a soft coat and abundant feathering. Good head with strong underjaw. Pleasing topline which he held well on the move. Stood four square and moved well in all directions. DEERHOUND G (2, 0) 1 Clabby’s Humbiehounds Jazz It Up Rising 3-year-old bitch with correct coat and good bone. Typical head and moderate throughout, good length of body and depth of brisket, well-arched loin. Moved out nicely. 2 McAlpine’s Humbiehounds Parting Glass Litter sister to 1. Similar comments apply although finer throughout. Could not disregard overbite. O (2, 0) 1 Maclean’s Orge Et Malt D’Escalgrain (Imp Fra) A 5-year-old bitch I liked very much. Lovely head and expression, strong neck, good front angulation and pleasing topline. Plenty of heart room. Harsh coat. Strong quarters propelled her around the ring with a long easy stride. BOB. 2 Clabby’s Humbiehounds Jazz It Up See above. IRISH WOLFHOUND G (1, 0) 1 Tinker-Haldane's Malinkey’s Acacia Rising 2-year-old bitch who immediately impressed with her easy profile movement. Pleasing head with fine ears and long, muscular neck. Gentle expression. Long back with arched loin. Would have preferred a little more depth of brisket. Won BOB on movement in the challenge. O (1, 0) 1 Lyons’ Malinkey’s Angelica Litter sister to the Grad class winner and many of the same remarks apply. Well proportioned bitch with an excellent coat, good bone and a deep chest. Belly well drawn up. Her sister had the edge on movement today. RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK G (0, 0), O (1, 1). SALUKI O (3, 0) 1 Phillips’ Luachmhar Jamilah ShCEx A 3 year old feathered grizzle bitch of undeniable quality. Lovely head and a dignified, gentle expression, balanced and with a pleasing topline this girl moved around the ring effortlessly and ran away with this class. BOB and later HG2. 2 Simpson’s Zxylasahlaam Gea’rr VW Rising 8 years of age this feathered cream male defied his age and presented well but lacked the depth of breed type of the class winner. 3 Logie’s Merenptah Nazneen. AV HOUND NSC O (1, 1). AV HOUND IMP REG O (0, 0). AV HOUND MP (4, 1) 1 Zilcan Vanilla Ice See above. 2 Zilcan Magic Moments See above. 3 Goodbrand’s Bargemon Soft As Starlight For Braesnobel. AV HOUND P (2, 2). AV HOUND V (9, 5) 1 Phillips’ Ch Vidana Amira S Berega Turi ShCM ShCEx VW (Imp Rus) A beautiful feathered black and tan bitch I have long admired from ringside. I was delighted to be given the opportunity to go over her. She did not disappoint despite her now 8 years of age. The epitomy of grace and strength she has a typical head, ears covered in the desired long, silky hair and a long elegant neck. Moderate throughout with excellent top line, strong quarters and good bone. Smooth, flowing and effortless movement. Could not be denied BV. 2 Webb’s Crosscop Somebody To Love 7-year-old fawn brindle dog. Kind expression, fine rose-shaped ears, long muscular neck, good fill in front and depth of brisket. Ribbed well back. Would have preferred more length of upper arm to balance the front angulation but despite this moved nicely in profile and true coming and going. 3 Wyllie’s Tangaer Calvera Avec Callydena ShCM.
