Great Yarmouth Gorleston & District Canine Society

Thank you to Jacky Cutler for inviting me to judge the Working group. I was very honoured to judge Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show. Thank you to Marjorie and Margaret, my very efficient stewards.

BEST IN SHOW – Watkinson’s Miniature Smooth-Haired Dachshund, Loggeta Boom and Bust. I just fell in love with this lovely 7-year-old Dachshund, who certainly didn’t look or act her age. I am surprised she has no extra letters to her name. I attended a Dachshund BAD in January this year to learn more about this breed. I considered this is how they should look. This show was held at an equestrian centre where some smaller dogs would have difficulty with the ground surface, but this little bitch moved so soundly and freely. Perfect length proportions of 2:1, important in this breed. Super long head, appearing conical when viewed from above and nice sloping stop to muzzle. Dark eyes, good ears and bite. Neck flowed into well laid shoulders. Oval chest and close-fitting forelegs. Breastbone strong and prominent, but body clear of the ground. Super well-muscled hindquarters with full rump. Presented in excellent condition with a lovely shiny coat. Very well handled. A real joy to see.

RESERVE BEST IN SHOW – This had to go to my Working group winner, who I was surprised had no additional letters to her name either. So wonderfully handled and presented. Another impressive older bitch that caught the eye and moved around the ring like a dream - Kerr’s Siberian Husky, Dreamcatcher Beat Goes On. Very aptly named. Quality bitch of lovely type. Well-proportioned chiseled foxlike head. Almond shaped blue eyes with keen expression. Triangular shaped ears set close together. Good neck flowing into well placed shoulders, straight front standing on oval compact feet. Enough depth of chest, firm level topline and slight tuck-up. Well-muscled hindquarters with good bend of stifle and low set hocks. Presented in super coat and body condition. A joy to watch on the move, stylish and light on her feet with a smooth easy action, good reach and drive for 6 years old.

BEST PUPPY IN SHOW - Watts & Gibbard’s Rottweiler, Jezeve Hot Tottie. Another wonderful mover, at the other end of the age range. Very smart with lots of promise. Beautiful feminine head, good breadth of skull, defined stop, good eyes and ears, with excellent scissor bite. Correct length of strong, muscular neck. Shoulders well laid back. Straight, muscular, well boned forelegs. Deep chest, broadness coming. Straight, strong back of correct proportions, with short strong loin. Well-muscled hindquarters and stifles fairly well bent. Standing on strong, round, compact feet. Very soundly constructed, enabling her to really open up on the move to give a good stride and powerful thrust from the rear. Presented and handled to perfection. I will watch her progress with interest.

RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW – Cooke & Hammond’s German Shorthaired Pointer, Seasham Jingle Jangle. I do not know a lot about this breed, but I fell for this 8-month-old dog puppy. He just had that presence and outline, along with super flowing movement. So well balanced and clean in body lines. Having a lovely flow from nose to tail. Pleasing head, well-proportioned to body. Skull sufficiently broad and slightly rounded. Lovely soft, gentle expression. Slightly arched neck flowing into lovely laid shoulders. Deep chest and well sprung ribs. Super flowing topline. Well-muscled hindquarters. A very stylish mover showing reach in the front and drive from the rear. Presented in super condition and handled very well.

WORKING GROUP

BOXER

PUPPY (2)

Cook’s Boese Jiggerlotti. 9-month-old red brindle bitch with a lovely outline and balanced throughout. Pleasing head of good proportions, correct ears and eyes, giving an intelligent expression. Round, muscular elegantly arched neck. Nice lay of shoulder and good depth of chest. Short back, giving square profile, with slight slope and ribbed well back. Muscled hindquarters. BEST PUPPY.

LIMIT (2)

1. Cook’s Lobeaubox Lena Marelli. Pleasing head with neat ears, good eye shape and colour. Nice slightly arched neck. Nice overall balance and well-muscled hindquarters. Presented in good condition. Good tight feet with arched toes.

OPEN (2)

Two lovely Boxers and on the day, eventually I placed the male in front of the female.

1. Kuech’s Boese Jiggerlardo JW. A very ‘eye catching’, strong, masculine dog. Well-constructed, balanced, square in outline, of excellent quality and on his toes the whole time. Strong, masculine head, balanced muzzle to skull ratio, with correct shaped skull. Nice eyes with soft, kind, intelligent expression. Strong, muscled round neck. Good shoulder angulation. Plenty of fore chest and good depth of chest. Square profile, nicely flowing topline into brilliant tail set. Strong well-muscled hindquarters, good angulation and excellent hocks. Presented in good fit hard condition, with a gleaming coat, leading down to excellent tight feet. He moved so strongly and powerful, with purpose. Reaching well in front and driving from behind, covering the ground with ease. BEST OF BREED.

2. Wheeler’s Olibetay Bella Rose at Hipkins JW. I see I judged this bitch two years ago when she was just over 18 months old. I really fell in love with her then. I awarded her the Working group and she went on to be Best in Show. She has matured into a lovely striking brindle and white Boxer bitch. I found it such a hard decision here, between the dog and bitch. The dog just had that extra presence on the day. However, this does not detract from the quality of this bitch. I was so pleased to give her Working Best Reserve Best of Breed. She has a beautiful head with good balance of skull and muzzle. Correct dentition and depth to underjaw. Dark brown eyes, giving intelligent expression. Well set ears enhancing the head shape. Lovely reach of neck into long, sloping shoulders, giving excellent front construction. Straight, parallel forelegs with good bone. Correct spring and depth of chest. Strong topline, slightly sloping back, well-muscled loin and hindquarters, with good angulation. She still has super movement, but not the animation as the dog on the day. Presented in lovely condition. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

BULLMASTIFF

LIMIT (3)

1. Smith’s Luna Day Dream. Nice bitch, lovely brindle colour in excellent condition. Presented a nice outline, although a bitch, I would still have liked a little more of her all round, in particular, a wider chest. Nicely proportioned head with expressive eyes and ears set on wide. Correct shoulder placement, straight back, good ribs, short loin and correct amount of hind angulation. Well arched, cat-like feet. Moved OK. BEST OF BREED.

2. Eagle’s Mons Claudius Gone With The Wind (Imp Cro) NAF TAF. Quite a different type. Bullmastiffs should be powerful and strong, but this bitch was too heavily built all over for me. I preferred the head of above. Moved and behaved better than her kennelmate. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

3. Eagle’s Suenomia Las Vegas.

LEONBERGER

PUPPY (1)

1. Charwin’s Gilvaris White Lion NAF TAF. 9mth, Although 9 months old, very much a baby in development and temperament. Good length of head and neck. Shoulders well laid and elbows close fitting. Nice topline and sloping croup. Well-muscled hindquarters good bend of stifle. Nice feet. It was difficult to assess movement. BEST PUPPY.

SPECIAL YEARLING (1)

1. Heginbotham’s Sulandi Fallen Angel (IKC). A lovely 17-month-old bitch, having a super scissor bite. Well boned, muscular and elegant. Presenting a lovely outline. Straight back, broad loin and rump, sloping croup, with good tail carriage. Well-muscled hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle. Very nice movement, covering the ground with ease. Good front extension and drive from the rear. Just beginning to lose her coat. BEST OF BREED.

LIMIT (1)

1. Heginbotham’s Hera Nasza Duma (IMP POL). Another nice bitch, but just did not have quite the style and animation of the one above. She is of a good type and nicely balanced. Nicely proportioned head with feminine expression; excellent eyes and ears, with good dentition. Strong clean neck, firm straight back, good depth to brisket, gently rounded rump and tail correct for length, set and carriage. In good condition and coat. Moved well. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

NEWFOUNDLAND

SPECIAL YEARLING (2)

1. Hosie’s King of Helluland Jungle Book at Shadowrise (IMP SVK). Good sized black dog, 14 months old. Powerfully made, giving impression of strength. Masculine, broad head, deep stop, nicely shaped skull and dark eyes. Strong neck, flowing into good shoulders. Good depth of chest, well ribbed back with short loin, sound top-line, well-muscled hindquarters. Good bone and correct coat. Not moving that well and a bit ‘grumpy’.

2. Hosie’s Shadowrise Wild Fire. A lovely tempered brown bitch, who was not concentrating on the day and lacked coat, so not at her best. Feminine head with good kind eyes. Strong neck, good shoulders, nice body shape, good depth of chest, good bone and strong top-line, well-muscled hindquarters. Good feet. Correct tail set and carriage. Moved OK when able to assess.

Correct Newfoundland movement with the accepted slight toe-ing in at front. BEST OF BREED.

ROTTWEILER

PUPPY (4)

1. Rivett, Gibbard & Piggott’s Jezeve Love Junkie. A super puppy bitch, who I really liked. Then her sister appeared in Special Yearling! What a lovely pair. Well boned and quite mature for her age, but still feminine. Correctly proportioned, producing a super outline. Super feminine ‘Rottie’ head, broad skull, dark almond-shaped eyes, with cheeks well boned and muscled. Good length of neck, with slight arch. She stands true in front with a pleasing fore chest. Level topline, well ribbed, moderate rear angulation. Movement was good in all directions and tail carried well.

2. Smith’s Jaegerot Mr Marvellous. A nice smaller compact well boned dog, with super temperament. I preferred the head of the bitch. Good body length and pleasing rear angulation with first and second thigh developing nicely at this age. Good feet and clear rich mahogany markings. Moved well, showing strength, endurance and purpose, holding his topline and tail correctly.

3. Lee’s Leebee’s Tokyo.
