Thank you to Deborah and her team for inviting me to judge the Utility and Terrier groups at their show. They were a very friendly, helpful committee, having to cope with a change of venue. Which is never easy and caused a few exhibitors to be anxious. However, my steward and I dealt with the situation and I was able to judge all my exhibits adequately. It was a long day for my steward, who I had met before. But we managed to get through the day OK. A special thank you to the exhibitors.
UTILITY GROUP
BOSTON TERRIER
JUNIOR (2)
1. Bundy’s Dalenamag King of Clubs. A very nice well balanced 11-month-old puppy dog, with a compact outline. Well-proportioned head with square, flat skull appearance. Round dark eyes, set wide apart. Good ear set and carriage. Enough neck. Well boned and muscled straight forelegs. Good shoulders, depth of chest, level topline, correct tail set and turn of stifle. Presented in super condition, muscled and very fit. Not concentrating when moving. BEST OF BREED & BEST PUPPY.
POST GRADUATE (2)
1. Bundy’s Dalenamag King of Diamonds. Brother to above with similar attributes, just preferred the overall balance of above. Nice square head, flat on top, defined stop, broad jaws and erect ears, but somehow, I thought his brother’s head was better, although I preferred this one’s dentition. Correct body as his brother, but lacking tail. Presented in super condition. Ambled when moving.
OPEN (1)
1. Bundy’s Murrayclan Mary Queen of Scots. A nice 10-year-old bitch presented in excellent condition with a very shiny coat. Super for her age and well-constructed. Square head, skull appearing square, flat on top, square muzzle and well-defined stop. Round, dark eyes set square in the skull and wide apart. Erect ears, set well. Ample neck, well placed shoulders, good depth of chest, level topline, good tail set, enough rear angulation. Moved well.
BULLDOG
JUNIOR (4)
1. Crothers’ Hazembulls Hetty Sketty. Two litter sisters, just a year old with more maturing to do. Well-constructed and full of character. I preferred the head on this one. She had a good broad and square head, with relatively large skull and correct wrinkling. Good shoulders with the appearance of being ‘tacked on’ to her body. Forelegs set wide a part, strong bone and well ribbed. Correct topline and waistline. Moved correctly. Presented in good condition with an attractive colour. BEST OF BREED.
2. Crothers’ Hazembulls Funny Face. Preferred the head of her sister. She stood a little too wide for me. Correct topline. Not so fit. She seemed to want to walk sideways, which was a shame.
CHOW CHOW
GRADUATE (1)
1. Martin’s Jamarhys Neptune at Foillan. A nice type and well balanced. Super head, with broad, flat skull, strong muzzle, dark eyes and small well-placed ears, to give the scowl expression. Nice mouth with scissor bite and correct pigmentations. Broad chest and short, level back. Tail set high, carried well over the back. In good condition, strong boned and tight feet. Moved very well. Excellent coat.
OPEN (2)
1. Clucas’ Ch Hiswin Star Dreams JW. I fell in love with this lovely light shaded red old lady. Such a character and a very worthy champion. So beautiful and knows it, with her feminine expression, deep soulful eyes and well set small thick ears. Correct head shape and pigmentation. Strong neck, well sprung ribs and low hocks. Tail carried over her back, finished with small cat-like feet. Beautifully constructed, giving her a lovely outline and movement, at her own speed. In beautiful coat. I was disappointed I could not place her higher later, but she was up against ‘hot’ competition and she decided she did not want to do much more, which was a great shame. BEST OF BREED.
2. Martin’s Jollindchow Fuyan at Foillan. Another nice type of Chow. Good head, dark eyes and small, thick and tilting ears to give the scowling expression. Mouth correct with desired pigmentation. Well-constructed and angulated, in nice condition. Reluctant to put tail over their back and move with any animation.
FRENCH BULLDOG
JUNIOR (2)
1. Williams’ Jafrak Sugar Ray for Gwynsel. A very mature 7-month-old fawn coloured dog with dark mask and good pigmentation around his eyes. Nice square head. Skull was nearly flat between ears and he had a domed forehead. His cheek muscles are developing well, his lower jaw was undershot and turned up. His nose was black and relatively short. Correct ‘bat ears’ and super dark round eyes. Legs straight boned and muscled set wide apart. Cobby body with flow of topline. A lively little chap with clownlike qualities, but for me, his movement let him down on the day, which was a shame. BEST OF BREED & BEST PUPPY.
GERMAN SPITZ (KLEIN)
GRADUATE (3)
1. Moon’s Hollirox Wishing on a Star. A very attractive sable coloured bitch. Well-proportioned very pleasing head and expression. Broad, nearly flat skull narrowing into a wedge shape to the nose. Oval shaped eyes, obliquely set and small triangular ears. Body very well put together. High set tail curled over her back and small rounded cat-like feet. Moved very well with brisk action. BEST OF BREED.
2. Huntley’s Fecimus Brother Bear at Puidelup. A brown dog with eyes compatible with the coat colour. Rather small and dainty. His head was OK with well-shaped eyes and well-set ears. But having a small head his muzzle appeared to look ‘snipey’ and ears a bit large. He had a nice outline and level topline with good tail set.
OPEN (2)
1. Huntley’s Fecimus Brother Bear at Puidelup. AS ABOVE.
GERMAN SPITZ (MITTEL)
GRADUATE (2)
1. Roberts’ Cwrtafon Cosmic Love. A lovely looking compact bitch with a square outline and black shiny coat. Super well-proportioned head. Broad, nearly flat skull and defined stop. Oval eyes and small high set ears. Good neck flowing into well-constructed front assembly. Nicely bodied with good hindquarters, finishing with lovely small cat-like feet. Moved very well. A super showman.
2. Huntley’s Xquisite Thor a Little Grey Cloud at Puidelup. A 6-month-old, shaded wolf sable puppy dog, with pretty markings. Appears quite small and needs to mature and movement needs to tighten up. Nice promising head. High set tail curled over his back. Small cat-like feet. In good double coat. BEST PUPPY.
OPEN (1)
1. Hewett’s Ch Spellcast Talk Tidee. A very youthful 9-year-old and a very worthy champion, with good bone, substance and overall balance. Attractive masculine head with well set ears, correct eyes and good nose pigment. Good neck, topline, body proportions and angulation, topped off with strong legs, catlike feet, correct front pasterns and low set hocks. High tail set with tail curled over his back. Shown in a good quality, full double coat. His movement and showmanship were exemplary. Super to go over. Presented in excellent condition, muscled and super brown double coat. BEST OF BREED.
MINIATURE SCHNAUZER
GRADUATE (3)
1. Hancock’s Lichstone Midnite Stroller for Stavella. A nice sturdily built appealing balanced dog. Strong head of good length, moderately broad between the ears, strong muzzle, neat ears and oval eyes. Good neck and deep chest. Strong and straight back. Well set tail. Moved very well. Free, balanced and vigorous, with good reach in front and drive from the rear. Super harsh, wiry coat. Beautifully presented. BEST OF BREED.
2. Wonnacott’s Roellia Mon Amour. A very promising 9-month-old puppy bitch. Attractive pepper and salt colour. Lovely type, with good bone, presenting a nearly square outline. Nice neck and well bodied. Excellent coat. I hope her front movement tightens with age. BEST PUPPY.
3. Thomas’ Jackpot-N Di Monte Gentile at Eronel.
OPEN (3)
1. Hancock’s Sincerely Yours for Stavella. Sturdily built square dog. Very good head of good length. Neat well-placed ears and dark oval eyes. Good bone, rather short in neck and body. Well sprung ribs with short loin. Super harsh, wiry, short, smart coat.
2. Williams’ Lyzahro Mostly Harmless. A white bitch with black pigmentation. Nearly square in outline. Well set ears. Medium neck, good lay of shoulder and strong top-line. I would have preferred more coat and of a harsher texture, which may be difficult with this colour. Moved OK.
TIBETAN TERRIER

Well-muscled compact, powerful body. Level topline. High set tail. Correct shaped feet. Profusely coated of correct texture and presented to perfection. What a lovely class of top-quality Veterans, all wonderful specimens of their breed. Eventually I picked the one who I thought would be the best representative in the ‘big ring’ and she won Best Veteran in Show!
1. England’s Dalmatian, Dalens Bethany Char at Silverspot VW. Soundly made 8-year-old liver bitch. Balanced, strong and symmetrical in outline. Super head of fair length with a flat, broad skull and powerful muzzle. Round bright eyes and moderate sized ears set on rather high. Fairly long, arched neck. She scores in front assembly with a good lay back of shoulder and sternum. This is balanced with well-developed hindquarters with good turn of stifle, width of thigh and hocks well let down, standing on nice legs and feet. No wonder she moved so well!
