Sealyham Terrier Breeders Association
Thank you so much for asking me to judge your lovely breed. I am sorry I started judging so late, but unfortunately there was a delay with my National Terrier Stakes classes. I was extremely pleased with my entry both quantity and quality in a numerically small breed. Thank you so much for the judge’s gift and assistance from my very able steward.
MINOR PUPPY DOG OR BITCH (1)
1. Bell’s Whooperhill Serendipity for Letara. A very nice well grown 8-month-old puppy bitch. Nicely boned and presented in lovely condition. Good length of well-proportioned head, with slight stop. Correct forequarters. Oblong shaped body. Well set tail. Coat softer at the moment, but young. Signs of harsher coat coming through. Moved very well with drive.
PUPPY DOG (2)
1. Bettis’ Ornella King Midas. A very smart mature puppy dog. Already showing off a very appealing, super oblong outline. Excellent well-proportioned length of head, with good width of skull and strong punishing jaw. Dark eyes and nicely placed ears of correct size completed his expression. Nice length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Correct forequarters, developing well. Good length of level body, strong loin and good tail set. Hindquarters also developing nicely. Super movement, with plenty of drive from the rear, keeping level topline. Very striking side view. Presented in wonderful form. I believe he had ticking on his skin, which is fine, but no ticking in his coat. He must have a very promising future and I will watch his progress with interest.
JUNIOR DOG (2)
1. Bettis’ Ornella King Midas. See above.
2. Hemstock’s Jolihem Mad Eye Moody. A very nice young dog, who has the correct oblong body shape and a good length of quality masculine head. Good neck and well-placed shoulders. Nicely made forequarters. May be a fraction long in loin resulting in his back to dip from time to time. Strong hindquarters and tail set. Round tight feet. Moved extremely well with vigor and drive. In good harsh coat, not quite the presentation of the first placed. But a very nice young dog.
NOVICE DOG (3)
1. Hemstock’s Jolihem Sirius Black. Litter brother to his kennel mate in Junior and much the same attributes, but not so mature. Correct head and stop, with good outline. Super forequarters, with short, strong and straight forelegs, plus close-fitting elbows. Well-muscled. Moved well when settled.
2. Allison’s Nunneley Hide and Seek at Slifehurst. Nice type of dog with a lovely friendly temperament and having good substance. I did not feel he had the front assembly of the above. Moved all right. His coat let him down, spoiling his general appearance. No ‘long, hard and wiry topcoat with weather-resistant undercoat’, just a thin topcoat.
3. Howle’s Dinglebrooke I Can.
GRADUATE DOG (2)
1. Hemstock’s Jolihem Sirius Black. See above.
2. Crang’s Lushell Gwyn Cariad. A very well-built dog and up to size, with plenty of substance. Good head proportions, dark eye with pigmented eye rims, well placed ears and muscular neck. Moved ok.
LIMIT DOG (2)
1. Curtis’ Jolihem Lenejoe Badger. I see I have judged this chap before. A very nice type, with a heavily marked masculine head, dark eyes and super ears. Correct length of neck, good shoulders and super straight forelegs. Ample depth and breadth of chest. Good body proportions, topline and tail set. Well-presented coat of correct texture. Good bone and feet. Moved very well.
OPEN DOG (2)
1. Bell’s Ch. Zippor Sleepy Sapphireson at Letara. Another I have judged before. He gets better and better every time, now fully mature being in his prime at 5 years old. I judged him as a puppy and thought he was nice, placing him well. I am so pleased he has developed into a top winning champion, receiving top accolades. He can be a ‘naughty boy’ with his typical terrier attitude, but today he did work with his handler. I consider he is what a Sealyham terrier dog should look like. Lovely head with slightly domed skull, nice dark eye, great ear set, super length of neck into good shoulders, level topline, everything in proportion within an oblong body. Good tail set and carriage, with quarters protruding beyond the set of tail. Beautifully presented and trimmed with correct harsh coat. Moved briskly with plenty of drive, taking control of the ring. He has such a naughty terrier attitude. I love him.
2. James’ Nileda Mister Joe. I see I have judged this chap before as well. Another nice type with good head, dark eyes and correct ears. Super forequarters. Nice overall shape, with good proportioned body. Well ribbed back and in super hard condition. Holds a level topline. Strong hindquarters, with good angulation. Moved with a free stride. Nice harsh, wiry topcoat.
JUNIOR HANDLING (AGES 6-11 YEARS)
1. Freddie Hemstock. A very nice, polite 10-year-old person, who tried very hard to present their dog correctly. They will develop into a very good handler.
PUPPY BITCH (4)
1. Flower’s Dionaha Winnie. I was reminded by the exhibitor that I met her whilst I was stewarding at our local Limit show last December. I advised her to work at handling and presenting her nice puppy and I ended up placing her first. I did not recognise her, but I still obviously had the same thoughts. The bitch has a super feminine well-proportioned Sealyham head with slightly domed skull and good width between the ears. Nice eyes and lovely ears. Correct neck and forequarters. Good overall balance, may look a little long in body at the moment, allowed in a bitch. But should look quite different when fully mature. Good tail set. Moved well but was getting tired. Coat developing. Ticking of skin acceptable, but no ticking of coat. I will watch her progress with interest.
2. Mersen’s Magembay Monnet. Another very nice puppy bitch. I just preferred the head of above. Good length of neck into very nice shoulder placement. Chest dropping nicely. Correct length of body with level topline. Muscular hindquarters developing well. Hocks well let down. Moved very well retaining her topline. Correct coat coming well.
3. Courtney-Warren & Krykunivsky’s Magembay Muchora of Nunneley.
4. Allison’s Ornella Once Upon a Time in Slifehurst.
NOVICE BITCH (2)
1. Hemstock’s Jolihem Loony Luna. Litter sister to her kennel mates, with similar attributes. A very nice type, with good overall shape and balance. Strong feminine head, dark mischievous eyes. Good length of neck, correct body and strong hindquarters. Moved well. Lovely harsh white coat.
GRADUATE BITCH (1)
1. Hemstock’s Jolihem Loony Luna. See above.
LIMIT BITCH (2)
1. Curtis’ Kenaiteen Cascade. Another I have judged before. A nice type of bitch, having most of the breed attributes. Nice balanced head with correct stop. Good eyes and ears. Correct reach of neck, super forequarters and depth of chest. Muscled hindquarters with well bent stifles. Nice bone, feet and tail set. Moved well with drive. Good mature coat.
2. Courtney-Warren & Krykunivsky’s Bullbrit Shady Lady of Nunneley. A very pleasing bitch with a well-shaped head and kind expression. Good neck and shoulders, well balanced. Moved well. Super coat and condition.
OPEN BITCH (4)
1. Bettis’ Ch. Nunneley Hopscotch Over Ornella JW. Another I have judged as a puppy, who has now matured into a beautiful champion bitch. So well balanced, oblong in shape giving a super Sealyham outline. Of great substance but still feminine. Well-proportioned head with slightly domed skull and wide between the ears. Dark eyes and well-set super ears. Long muscular neck, leading to good shoulders. Correct length of body, level topline, with broad, deep chest. Muscular thighs with well bent stifles and quarters protruding beyond the tail set. Wonderful brisk and free movement with plenty of drive. Hard, wiry coat. Presented and handled to perfection.
2. Hampson’s Saore on a Sunrise High (Imp Ita). Another very nice mature Sealyham bitch. Good length of head, well-proportioned and slightly domed skull. Nice dark eyes, the ears appeared smaller. Correct length of neck on well laid shoulders. Correct forequarters. Nice oblong body with level topline. Correct tail set and quarters protrude beyond the set of tail. Moved very well. Well-presented harsh coat.
3. McNeillis’ Ch. Magembay Merrydah.
