Leicester City Canine Society

Breed: Open show

Thank you very much to Maureen Ward and her team for inviting me to judge part of the Working group and make the final Working Group choice. Clashing with the Working Group at Driffield Championship show must have affected your entries considerably. Nevertheless, there were some nice dogs present and enough to make it a very enjoyable day out. A special thanks to my two stewards, Ian and Georgie, who kept things going for me.

LEONBERGER

OPEN (1)

1. Davies’ Alfross Kapuko Aelius. This dear chap was nearly 7 years old and very ‘laid back’, giving the impression he had ‘been there, done that and didn’t want to do too much more!’ He was very well groomed, with an excellent coat and in super condition. He had a nice temperament and did everything asked of him. He was a very well-made masculine dog. He had good eyes, ears and mouth. Nicely made forequarters with good bone but a little down on his pasterns, due to his age. Deep well sprung ribs but tends to drop his topline. Moved accurately but lacked enthusiasm and drive. BEST OF BREED.

ST BERNARD

SPECIAL YEARLING (1)

1. Mokryk, Jeffries & Bell’s Streillys Hugo the Boss by Bellfries. A 13-month-old dog, who was very well grown and presented in lovely condition, for such a large dog. He had the distinct breed markings and kind temperament. He had a nice, shaped head with large square black nose and well developed nostrils. His eyes were correct and nice ears lying close to his cheeks. He was well constructed, with broad, sloping shoulders, broad back and well-muscled hindquarters. He moved well, working in unison with his young handler. BEST OF BREED.

1. Wilson’s Boxer, Thorpaige What a Kerfuffle JW. A very nice brindle bitch of quality and a lovely example of her breed. At just over 2 years old, she was on tip top form. She presented the correct Boxer outline, slightly sloping back and squarely built. She had a very pleasing head, well balanced skull and muzzle. Top of skull slightly arched, distinct stop and correct length of muzzle. Good eyes and ears, with correct mouth. Round, strong, muscular neck with arch. She had good depth of chest, well arched ribs and a slight slope in topline, which she kept on the move. Nice tuck up. Well-muscled hindquarters and good angulation. Stifles well placed. She presented a super outline when standing and on the move. Lovely strong, powerful movement. BEST ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED WORKING.

VETERAN (4)

Two very nice Veteran bitches.

1. Broadbank’s Rottweiler, Bevanray Shirley at Nyandor ShCEx . A very nice 7-year-old bitch, who at times thought she was 7 months! Compact and balanced in construction. A lovely example of correct breed type and soundness. Very good head with nice breed detail. Broad skull with good stop and ear set. Muzzle has depth with strong dentition and jaws. Dark almond shaped eye. Strong, muscular neck fits into well laid shoulders, good depth and width of chest. Back straight and strong, with short loin. Stands on strong, round, compact feet. Broad, strongly muscled hindquarters bent stifles and strong hocks. Moved very positively, with great strength and endurance for her age. Presented in good condition and a lovely shiny jacket. BEST WORKING VETERAN.

2. Bryson’s Siberian Husky, Inukshuk Kunik O’Ullaktut. At 8 years old, she was another good example of her breed. Presenting a super outline. Excellent refined feminine head, giving the true fox-like appearance. Stop clearly defined but not excessive. Lovely eyes and ears, with a very good mouth. Arched neck and well laid shoulders. Straight and strong body. Well-muscled and powerful hindquarters. Good oval feet. Moved with an effortless, easy light-footed gait.
