Thank you for inviting me to judge the Utility group at this lovely, well run Open show. It was so nice to have the old-fashioned hospitality and refreshments served by the committee. The scare of parvovirus in the area was a shame, resulting in a lot of exhibitors deciding to stay at home. However, there were still some super dogs present, making my day very enjoyable. A special thank you to my steward, Frances, who did a fabulous job of keeping everything in order.
AKITA
GRADUATE (1)
1. Davies’ Snesha Big Dreams at Shinzam. 21-month-old bitch well-developed and in super condition, of lovely proportions, with a balanced outline. Feminine head of correct shape and defined stop. Well set dark eyes. Superb relatively small, triangular ears carried forward in line with the back of her neck, slightly rounded at tips, dark mask, giving excellent expression. Ample neck into well set shoulders, straight front with plenty of bone, tidy feet. Good depth of chest, level topline, moderate rear hindquarters, finishing with a high set tail, well curled. Super coat and colour. She would not concentrate when moving in a relatively small ring.
OPEN (1)
1. Davies’ Ch. Redwitch This Is Me at Shinzam (AI). A 4-year-old mature dog of excellent quality. Very well balanced producing a super outline. Masculine, well-proportioned head, correct stop, eyes and ears. Good dentition. Strong muscular neck, flowing into well laid shoulders. Forelegs well boned and straight. Chest wide and deep, with well-developed forechest. Level back, well sprung ribs and firmly muscled loin. Strong muscular hindquarters. High set tail, beautifully curled. In good coat. He appeared rather bored and did not do his best to show off his movement. BEST OF BREED.
DALMATIAN
POST GRADUATE (3)
1. Valentine’s Dvojica Fizzy Pop. This bitch won the class on balance and symmetrical outline and I preferred her head. It was very nice, with a flat skull and broad between the ears. Round, bright, sparkling dark eyes and nicely set ears. Good reach of neck flowing into muscled shoulders and well-defined withers. Straight forelegs with round bone and deep chest. Ribs well sprung, level back and good tail set. Strong and athletic, with good substance, but still very feminine. Eye-catching, well-defined spots finished the picture. BEST OF BREED.
2. Grant’s Kevin Dude of the Glen. A 4-year-old liver spotted dog of good type. Well-muscled and in super condition. Good head, well set ears, dark eyes and moderate stop. Decent neck, shoulder placement and forelegs. Good depth of chest with good spring of rib, short loin and correct tail set. Moved smoothly and powerfully, covering the ground with ease, keeping a level topline on the move.
OPEN (3)
1. Grant’s Kevin Dude of the Glen. As above.
2. Shepherd’s Dalfire Bling in Spots. A pretty liver and white spotted bitch. Very good for 7 years old. A lighter type all over, in particular her head, which was emphasized by rather heavy ears. Lovely dentition and presented in super condition. Well distributed spotting, good tail set and carriage. Moved freely and well but lost her topline a bit.

ANY VARIETY UTILITY MINOR PUPPY (3)
Both real baby puppies and will look so different when they grow up and mature.
1. Shepherd’s Dalmatian, Sevenmoons Treasured Maple for Dalfire. A very promising puppy of a light frame at the moment. She is lean and needs to develop in body and build muscle. Pretty, feminine, well-proportioned head, flat skull and dark expressive eyes. I hope her head grows to her rather large ears. Good length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Straight forelegs with rounded bone. Body to develop. Hindquarters developing. Nice round, compact feet. Good freedom of movement and went very smoothly around the ring. Spots very well distributed.
2. Christie’s Tibetan Spaniel, Balgay Gold N Buzza (NAF) (TAF). Appeared a little long in body but may look a lot better when she matures and bodies up. She had a very nice head with a slightly dome skull, stop slight but defined. Medium length of dark muzzle and correct cushioning. Good ear placement and very good mouth. Nice body developing with good muscle tone. Her movement let her down on the day.
