Westbury & District Canine Society
Thank you to Jackie, Peter and their committee for inviting me to judge at this rather historical event. The first show of Westbury & District Canine Society for seven years. What organization! They thought of everything. Directions to the venue, warning of the Chippenham Half Marathan, a lovely welcome at the gate, assisted car parking, welcoming refreshments, lovely stewards and offers of assistance during the day. I had judged quite a few of my exhibits before, with exhibitors travelling a great distance, which shows the exhibitors like my judging. They were of a very high standard making it hard for me to decide on my top awards.
NORWEGIAN BUHUND
SPECIAL YEARLING (3)
1. Crocker’s Leggatts Superstition. Young 10-month-old wheaten bitch. Feminine and lightly built with a short compact body producing a good outline. Nicely proportioned and shaped head with well set ears of correct shape and size. She had dark eyes which were not appealing. Body developing with straight line of back and tightly curled tail over her back. She was not very settled making it hard to assess her movement. Presented in good coat and condition. BEST PUPPY.
POST GRADUATE (3)
1. Crocker’s Leggatts Voulez Vous. 6 years old and mother of the Best of Breed winner, daughter is an improvement. Lovely black colour. Feminine, lightly built with correct bone and substance for her frame. Pretty head with broad skull, good mouth, nice dark eyes and uses her ears. Good front and rear. Moved well. Correct tail. Lovely coat and condition.
2. Crocker’s Leggatts Superstition. AS ABOVE
3. Frost, Frost-Treadwell & Walmsley’s Frostisen Blakk Zeta (IKC).
OPEN (5)
1. Crocker’s Leggatts Jive Talkin. I judged her as a puppy and have seen her since. She was a lovely puppy, showing a lot of promise, I was correct she has developed into a super bitch of quality. Well balanced and lightly built. Well-proportioned head. Skull broad between the ears and almost flat. Dark brown eyes giving correct expression. Fantastic mobile ears of correct size. Dentition good. Moderate arch to neck and good shoulders. Straight forequarters, good depth of chest and nicely ribbed with straight line of back. Good bone and feet. Tail set on high, curled tightly over her back. Excellent movement, straight coming and going, light, active with good stride. Shown in very good coat. BEST OF BREED.
2. Taylor & Frost-Treadwell’s Frostisen Blakk Zitter. Similar age, with correct outline and good qualities. Feminine head and expression with lovely dark eyes. Good neck flowing into well-placed shoulders, with straight line of back. Well-muscled and good bone. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.
3. Crocker’s Knytshall Noor Ul Ain. BEST VETERAN.
FOX TERRIER (SMOOTH)
I have judged these before and they are a credit to their owner.
POST GRADUATE (3)
1. Rogers’ Lunafox Gentle Touch. A nice-looking feminine bitch. Daughter of the Open class winner. She is very feminine but without weakness. A nice, moderately narrow head, with a lovely flat skull. Small, dark eyes and small ears, well set. Correct length in neck, leading into long, sloping shoulders. Straight front with small compact feet. Adequate chest and good spring of rib. Well-muscled hindquarters and good turn of stifle. Moved very well. Presented in nice condition. BEST OF BREED.
OPEN (2)
1. Rogers’ Only You Du Manoir Saint Adrien at Lunafox (IMP FRA). Another nice bitch, with super colouring. Mother of the above. Good narrow head with flat skull. Dark, small circular eyes, giving the correct expression and well-set ears. Correct neck. Long and sloping shoulders, straight front legs and small, compact feet. Back a little longer and could be a bit ‘dippy’ at times. Well-muscled hindquarters. Very good tail set. Moved well, but I felt the daughter moved better on the day. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.
STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER
POST GRADUATE (2)
1. Cooper’s Sheracruz Life of Ryan. A nice type. Super head with broad skull, pronounced cheek muscles, distinct stop and short foreface. Dark eyes and very good ears. Muscular neck. Straight forelegs, well boned. Super body lines showing lovely confirmation and well-muscled throughout. Moved OK, appeared a little close behind. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.
2. Mitchell’s Vimaval Red Angel. Red and white, exuberant bitch that I have judged before and is still naughty. Correct feminine head with round eyes, bearing relation to coat colour. Good, well-muscled hindquarters and stifles well bent. Nice low tail set. Moved very well, showing good lines. Super personality and general Staffie attitude!
OPEN (3)
1. Mitchell’s Chedanstaff Devil Star. Aptly named! A dog I have judged several times and he still hasn’t grown up! A super mature dog, presented in excellent condition and super temperament. Good black coat, on tip toes, well boned and muscled. Very good head, broad skull with correct furrow, distinct stop, pronounced cheek muscles and short foreface. Correct ear placement and round eyes. Body of super shape, with level topline, strong loin and good feet. Well-muscled, strong hindquarters. Tail set on the higher side, which he carries high, spoiling his profile. Moves well. He appears to love playing his handler up, which sometimes affects his placing. BEST OF BREED.
WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER
SPECIAL YEARLING (3)
1. Thomson’s Ashgate Kelso. A cracking 11-month-old puppy, full of promise. Compact, with a super level back. My notes say – super in every way! Appealing feminine head with slightly domed skull. Distinct stop felt bony ridge immediately above her eyes. Good black nose and black points. Well-placed ears that enhanced her expression. Good shoulders, spring of ribs and firm topline. Strong, muscular hindquarters and hocks well bent. Good tail set. Moved out around the ring with a free and easy stride. Coat of correct texture and well presented, as expected from this kennel. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED.
2. Roberts’ Ancastle Blue Moon. A different type to the above. He had a lovely mouth. A good broad jaw with large teeth presenting a super bite. A wide skull with ample stop. Unfortunately, he was rather outshone by the lovely puppy.
OPEN (1)
1. Thomson’s Hillcloud Echowave by Ashgate. Very nice, as expected from this kennel. But to me, not the style of the puppy. Everything correct to present a balanced picture. Attractive head, slightly dome skull, dark eyes, well placed small ears and black nose. Well laid shoulders, level top line, well-muscled and correct tail set. Moved with drive. Presented in super harsh white coat. BEST OF BREED.
ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED TERRIER
SPECIAL YEARLING (9)
1. Lawler & Nottingham’s Australian Terrier, Bareve Top Hat N’ Tails. I judged him as a puppy at National Terrier and he is now going through his teenage period. A super youngster who is growing into a very smart dog. Such a showman, showing himself off so well. He has an excellent head. It is well proportioned with a flat skull and defined stop. Keen expression in his eyes, pointed ears, set correctly. He is also well bodied with good bone and presented in lovely condition. Correct shape and outline with a level topline. He moves very well. Due to his age, his coat was not at its best. BEST A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER.
2. Mapson’s Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Abiqua Wild Burlesque. There were two nice Soft Coated Wheatens that were very similar, but not related. Super outline and style, standing four square with head and tail up. Good well-proportioned head, with medium width skull, clear, bright eyes, well set ears and big black nose. Nice reach of neck, good lay of shoulders, well sprung ribs, level strong back. Effortless movement, with reach and drive.
3. Amel-Azizpour’s Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Crofftysofty Hay Jude.
4. Earle’s Manchester Terrier, Rattustrap Beer Humbug.
5. Nixon’s Scottish Terrier, Karmaristol Beau Brie. BEST PUPPY A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER.
POST GRADUATE (5)
1. Amel-Azizpour’s Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Crofftysofty Hay Jude. The other Soft Coated Wheaten. Similar comments apply. On the smaller side for a dog, but everything in proportion. Good well-proportioned head, with medium width skull, clear, bright, dark eyes, well set ears, well defined stop, good bite and big black nose. Nice reach of neck, good lay of shoulders, well sprung ribs, level strong back. Good coat and well presented. Not the movement of the other Soft Coated Wheaten. I would have preferred a little more drive to show off the strength in his strong rear, perhaps if he had been moved at a quicker pace.
OPEN (5)
1. Warner’s Manchester Terrier, Ch Talanors Time for Fun ShCEx. I have seen this chap on a number of occasions who always does his handler and breeder proud. Masculine wedge-shaped head of good proportions, strong neck and shoulders, well-muscled all through with good depth, producing an excellent outline. Nice feet. Good tail carriage. Moved well. RESERVE BEST A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER
2. Nixon’s Scottish Terrier, Tout Nouveau Tout Beau Du Clan Des Petits Colonels Karmaristol JW (IMP). This dog has certainly grown up and developed into a lovely dog since I judged him as a puppy. Now a very smart black brindle dog beautifully presented in a wonderful harsh double coat. Good outline and balance. Super long, well-proportioned head. Dark almond eyes and correct neat ears. Fairly broad chest hung between forelegs. Topline level. He moved very well, smoothly and freely.

ANY VARIETY TERRIER

1. Hall’s Border Terrier, Borderrush Bean and Gone. A nice type of Border Terrier, on the smaller side. Good ‘otter’ head’ with well-placed ears, dark eye and keen expression. Straight forelegs, good body and topline, spannable with a good pelt and nice tail set. Well-muscled and conditioned. Moved well. Good harsh coat.

3. Nixon’s Scottish Terrier, Karmaristol Beau Brie.
POST GRADUATE (6)
1. Earle’s Manchester Terrier, Rattustrap Beer Humbug. He presented a well-muscled, toned body with substance. Nice wedge-shaped head. Long, flat, narrow skull and small, dark, sparkling eyes. He moved quite well but could do with a bit more ring training. His coat was short and glossy, jet black colour with super rich mahogany markings in all the right places.
OPEN (5)
1. Nixon’s Scottish Terrier, Tout Nouveau Tout Beau Du Clan Des Petits Colonels Karmaristol JW (IMP). SEE ABOVE.
2. Smith’s Parson Russell Terrier, Digaden Top Notch. A good example of the breed. Feminine head, correct bite and V shaped ears carried close to the head. I would have preferred deeper set, almond shaped eyes. Good neck and well laid shoulders. Strong straight forelegs with tight feet. Nice rise over the loin and correct tail set. Good coat.
VETERAN (10)
A really super class of veterans, a credit to their owners.
1. Windsor-Hichens’ Border Terrier, Marizon May Flower at Ankietaz. A lovely 9-year-old having a super outline. Good head, eyes and ears. Fit, muscled body for her age. Good pelt and quality coat. Moved very well and sound.
