Breed: Retriever (Labrador)

Woolwich and Bexley and District Canine Association Open Show

1st December 2024

Judge: Faye Gardner

Firstly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Woolwich and Bexley and District Canine Association for the privilege of judging the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Labrador Retriever classes. I am immensely grateful to my stewards for their assistance, which ensured the smooth running of the day.

It was a joy to assess two wonderful breeds that I am deeply passionate about. I was pleased to see a variety of quality entries, and I appreciate exhibitors for presenting their dogs in such good condition and allowing me the opportunity to evaluate them in a sporting and respectful manner.

Labrador Retriever

Puppy 3 (2)

1st: Creamwood Scarlet Ribbon

Eight-month-old yellow bitch. A very pretty and feminine youngster with a divine stop and dark eyes that convey a lovely, intelligent expression. Correct ear set, hanging neatly close to the head, and a clean, correct scissor bite.

She has a clean neck and well-laid shoulders, with a nicely balanced frame throughout. Good width and depth of chest, with appropriate rib development for her age. Stood four-square with a correct tail set. Moved with ease, maintaining a firm topline.

Presented in good condition. Pleased to award her Best Puppy. Thank you for bringing this promising young bitch.

2nd: Trulace Demerara

Nine-month-old chocolate bitch with many admirable qualities. She is more robust than the first-place winner, with a pretty head and a distinct stop. Complete scissor bite and well-carried ears, complemented by good pigmentation.

Her strong neck flows into well-placed shoulders, and she has excellent bone and substance for her size and age. Neat, round feet with short nails. Moved and handled well, maintaining a firm topline throughout.

Just preferred the overall balance and conformation of the first-place winner today. Thank you for bringing her — a promising young bitch.

Junior 4 (2)

1st: Handialla Lady in Red at Ballaremuera

Seventeen-month-old yellow bitch. I previously had the pleasure of judging this lovely girl as a puppy, where I awarded her Best Puppy and Reserve Best of Breed. Once again, she impressed with her happy and feminine demeanor.

She has a broad skull with a divine stop, well-set ears hanging close to the head, and a correct scissor bite. Her clean, strong neck flows seamlessly into well-placed shoulders. Chest of good width and depth, with sufficient rib development. Maintained a firm topline on the move and presented in excellent condition.

Thank you for bringing this delightful young bitch — a pleasure to see her progress.

2nd: Saranden Leap of Faith to Othamcourt

Thirteen-month-old yellow bitch with a feminine head and a pleasing expression. Presented in good condition with a correct scissor bite and well-carried ear set.

Her neck flows into well-placed shoulders, and she was shown in good coat with a correct tail set. Sufficient width to the chest and rib development. Hocks well let down. Moved well, maintaining her topline throughout.

Just preferred the overall balance and conformation of the first-place winner today. Thank you for bringing her.

Post Graduate (2)

1st: Richmond Legally Blonde at Ankari

Twenty-one-month-old yellow bitch who immediately caught my eye as she entered the ring. She has a feminine, pretty head that gives her a sweet and appealing expression. Her overall appearance truly exemplifies the standard for a bitch.

Broad skull with a defined stop, and her eyes convey both intelligence and a kind nature. Neat ears, set close to her head, and a correct scissor bite. Her neck is clean, flowing smoothly into well-placed shoulders. Forelegs have sufficient bone, standing straight from elbow to ground, both when viewed from the front and side. She has good depth of chest and rib, presented in great condition.

The only minor note is that she was just out of coat, but her movement was effortless, with drive and balance, maintaining her topline throughout.

I am pleased to award her Best of Breed, and I was thrilled to see her go on to win the Gundog Group. Congratulations! Thank you for bringing her.

2nd: Creamwood Silver Hawthorn

Four-year-old yellow dog. I have judged this dog before and awarded him Best of Breed on that occasion. A happy, well-sized boy with a broad skull and divine stop. His ears hang neatly close to his head, framing his face and giving him a lovely expression.

His neck is strong, flowing into well-placed shoulders. He has good width and depth of chest, with sufficient rib development. He presents with good bone and substance. Moved with drive, holding his topline throughout, and it was clear he was enjoying his day out — a typical, happy boy.

In great condition, though he was losing a bit of coat. I just preferred the overall balance and conformation of the first-place winner today. Thank you for bringing him.

Open (3)

1st: Ankari Bare Necessities

Seven-year-old black dog. A lovely, handsome, and balanced dog for his size and age. Broad skull with a defined stop, and dark eyes that express intelligence. His well-carried ears frame his face beautifully, contributing to a lovely expression.

His neck is strong and clean, flowing into well-placed shoulders. He has good width and depth to his chest, with excellent bone and substance. Presented in great condition.

Moved with ease, maintaining his topline throughout. Pleased to reward him with Reserve Best of Breed. Thank you for bringing him.

2nd: Trulace Ambassador

Chocolate dog with many great qualities. Broad skull with a defined stop. His ears hang correctly close to his head, framing his face and giving him a lovely expression.

He has long, well-laid-back shoulders, with forelegs well-boned and standing straight from elbow to ground when viewed from both front and side. Good depth and width to chest and rib, in excellent condition and balance.

Moved and handled well, maintaining his topline throughout. I just preferred the overall structure and conformation of the first-place winner today. Thank you for bringing him.
