Bedford & District Canine Society

Bedford & District Canine Society Open Show on Sunday 22nd September 2024

I extend my gratitude to the committee for the kind invitation to judge today; also, to my very competent steward, Ellie, for keeping everything running smoothly and finally to the exhibitors for coming out to support the show today in the most awful weather. I tried to make allowances for the weather and felt that most of the dogs coped well with the noise of the rain on the roof.

Junior Handling Association

6-11 years 5, 0

1st Ellie McGill. Very smart young lady who displayed a good rapport with her dog. Listened well to instructions and demonstrated good patten work.

2nd. Isabella Gardner. Another well turned out young lady who handled her poodle expertly. Just needs to make her turns a bit sharper and ensure she has listened to instructions fully.

12-16 years 11, 5

1st Kaitlyn Collier. Impressive handling from this well presented young lady. Displayed a good rapport with her charge and demonstrated excellent pattern work whilst keeping the judge’s position in mind at all times. Well done.

2nd Phoebe Johnson. Similar remarks apply to this young handler who produced some lovely handling and displayed a good relationship with her dog. Handler was just unlucky on one turn.

YKC Members Handling

6-11 years 6, 3

1st Isabella Gardner. 2nd in JHA 6-11 years. This handler upped her game in this class and came out trumps. Paid attention to what was asked of her and demonstrated very precise pattern work. Well done.

2nd Ellie McGill. Was 1st in a previous JHA class but seemed a little distracted in this class and so swapped places with 1. Still worked hard to keep a good rapport with her dog and demonstrated good control.

12-17 years 13, 5

1st Kaitlyn Collier. 1st in a previous JHA class and still displaying the same level of attention and preciseness. Should go far.

2nd Leila Levene. I was very impressed with this lovely quiet handler. She was well presented and displayed an excellent rapport with her 4yo Boston. Fantastic pattern work and turns, and was aware of judges positioning throughout. Another one to watch.

18-24 years 7, 1

1st Leah Scales. A charismatic handler showing great rapport with her 3 yo dog whom she handled to perfection. Demonstrated excellent lead control, pattern work, turns and was well turned out.

2nd Bobbi Shepherd. Another excellent handler who piloted her 14 yo Veteran quietly and expertly. Fabulous pattern work and always kept an eye on judge.

Adult Handling

25-39 years 1, 0

1st Katie Dawson. Stood alone but was well presented. Completed good pattern work and turns, demonstrated a good relationship with her 2yo Rhodesian and did not obscure the judges view at any time.

40 + years 17, 8

1st Nicola Curtis. Very calm and precise handler, demonstrated good straight lines and an excellent rapport with her Sealyham. Was very aware of her spatial placement at all times and made sure she did not obscure the judges view at any time.

2nd Nichola Gooch. Another well presented dog/handler team. Similar remarks apply, just felt 1 was a little sharper today.

Weimaraner

Puppy 4, 0

1st Buckley’s Brownbank Juniper. Upstanding 7mths male puppy with a handsome, strong head. Correct chiselling is already evident and he has a kind eye, good ears with correct fold and mouth. He is well off for chest and stands over good front angles on good feet. Good body proportions, nice topline and moves well. BOB & BP.

2nd Spavins & Chevalier’s Weipowa Wild Flush For Ashstern. Pretty head on this nearly 8 mths old bitch, there is no mistaking her sex. Correct ears, eyes, skull and mouth. She is moderate throughout and has a nice front assembly, good angles fore and aft, level topline and correct body proportions. Moved ok. RBOB.

Junior 3, 0

1st Buckley’s Brownbank Juniper. 1st in puppy.

2nd Anderson’s Gunalt Gift Of The Gab. Sweet 6 ½ mth bitch slightly darker in colour than 1, I liked her shape and size. She has good length of body, correct angles fore and aft and nice feet. Her head needs to break a little and she is very much in the raw phase but has plenty of time to develop. Moved well once settled.

Post Graduate 4, 1

1st Martinez’s Meinweg Autumnal Frost. Nearly 5 yo male. His head is a little plain and I would like to see more work in it but he has a kind eye. Won this class on his moderation, nice size and shape though he is currently carrying a little too much weight for my preference. He has correct angles fore and aft, correct length to height ratio and desired brisket to elbow. A bit too proud of his tail. Best feet and movement in the class.

2nd Osborne-Fardon’s Silberliss Bombadier. 2 yo male of a nice pale shade. He has a heavier head and is built on a larger frame all through than 1. Correct skull and ear set, well laid shoulders, nice angles, good length of ribs and level topline when settled. Moved ok with nice tail carriage.

1st Osborne-Fardon’s Silberliss Bombadier. 2nd in PG.

Bracco Italiano

Junior 1, 0

1st Critchley’s Bracciano Now Or Never. Sweet 7mth bitch. She has kind eyes set onto a pretty head, correct ear set and length, good skull held by a strong neck. Good topline displaying correct slight slope at withers before rising to her croup. Nice body proportions, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Movement was a little loose as to be expected at this age but she demonstrated good driving action. RBOB & BP.

Post Graduate 1,0

1st Northey’s Jakobstown One Fine Day. 3 yo all male dog with deep muzzle, correct ears and strong head set on a powerful neck. Well sprung ribs, deep chest, slight tuck up supported by straight forelegs and well turned stifles with good feet. Would prefer tighter elbows. Moved a bit erracticly.

Open 2, 1

1st Titchmarsh’s Valcor Don’t Stop Me Now. Loved this feminine 2yo bitch with a beautiful head. Correct ears, eyes, mouth and muzzle. Strong neck, leading to correct topline over well sprung ribs and slight tuck up. Good angles all round, hocks well let down, nice feet. Moved very well. BOB.
