Newport & District Agricultural Society 2024

I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge at this lovely show and thankfully they ordered dry weather! Thank you too to the exhibitors who brought their dogs, it was a pleasure to go over them. The ring was on a bit of a slope which made it a bit trickier for movement, but all dogs coped well with this.

German Shorthaired Pointer

Puppy (0)

Junior (1/0)

1st- Sielski’s Orchidstar Silver Lightnin: Very feminine bitch with a lovely expression. She flows all through and is well balanced. Good front and hind angulation. She could do with dropping in fore chest slightly to complete the picture, but she has plenty of time on her side for that. Moved straight, away and back and had great reach and drive when viewed from the side. She was a little unsettled in the challenge so had to settle for RBOB today.

Open (3/1)

1st- Sielski’s Orchidstar Missing Link JW: Feminine bitch who has a good head and well set ears. She is very balanced all through with everything in proportion. She has a good length of neck which flows into her excellent topline which she holds on the move. Very good angulation fore and aft. She carried her tail a little high in the class but she was more settled in the challenge and moved very well to win BOB.

2nd- Taylor & Thomas’ Pingarypoint Puzzled at Knabynnus: Slighter larger bitch to 1 but they both have many similar attributes. She has a good front with excellent bone. She has a good depth of chest and has a good length of rib. Just preferred the topline of 1. Moved well, particularly in profile.

Hungarian Vizsla

Post Graduate (1/0)

1st- Maiden’s Vizvale Golden Empress: Pretty headed bitch who has a very graceful movement, but handler should be careful not to move her too quickly. Her hind angulation is very good which allows her to move well when settled. At times she got a bit worried but when she was relaxed she had a good topline which leads to a correct, low tail set. RBOB.

Open (1/0)

1st- Maiden’s Whipspan Royal Performance: She is a good size and has good overall balance and plenty breed type. Her head is lean and of correct proportions with a moderate stop. Good substance through her body but retains sufficient tuck up and has a short and level back with tail set on low. Very good hind angulation and very well muscled thighs. Good feet and lovely colour. BOB

Pointer

Puppy (1/0)

1st- Wall & Dunn’s Meadowpoint Spooktacular: 8 month l/w dog who was giving his handler a very hard time today! He’s on the larger side but he is balanced and well proportioned. Good head with a slightly dished muzzle. Good length of neck which flows into his body. He has a good length of rib but needs to drop in fore chest a bit, which will come with age. Good bee sting tail and when he got his head in gear he moved well. Best puppy and PG2, congratulations!

Junior (1/1)

Post Graduate (5/3)

1st- Matthew’s Sonhams C’est La Vie: Feminine and elegant bitch who has good overall balance. Good length of neck which leads into a good topline which she held on the move. Good depth of chest and she has a strong, compact loin. Good hind angulation. Moved ok.

2nd- Maiden’s Hookwood Blossom: Another who was feminine and elegant but she was a little erratic moving away and back today. She has a nice head with good ears which are of a good shape and set on well which lends to her kindly expression. She also has a good depth of chest with a good length of rib which leads to a compact loin. Her markings are eye catching and show her off well.

He has a good length of rib which leads to a compact loin. Uses tail well on the move. Pleased to award him BOB and watch him go on to win Group 2, congratulations!

2nd- Philo’s Sunhouse Black Is Back (AI): impressive young dog who is a bigger frame to 1. He has an elegant head and a good reach of neck which flows into his body. Excellent hind angulation. He was really showing off today so at times his movement was slightly over exaggerated, another who uses his tail well. RBOB.

3rd- Wall’s Meadowpoint Spirit Of Fire: Just wanted to make a note of what excellent shape this dog is in. At 10 years old, he is in fabulous nick and moved very well. An absolute credit to his owner and to the breed.
