Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge Best In Show at their Hound open show. As a Hound person myself, it is always an honour to be asked.

I was very lucky to have a quality group to judge, well done to my fellow judges for chosing these dogs to come to me in the group. After careful consideration, I awarded Best in Show to the stunning Rhodesian Ridgeback Parson’s Ch Priorpark Poetry in Motion JW. I judged this bitch last year in the puppy stakes at Driffield and put in my comment that she had a bright future and it certainly seems she has, still less than 2 years old and she has it all. She caught my eye straight away presenting a lovely shape on the stack providing a symmetrical outline, she has a feminine head of fair length and flat skull, reasonably well defined stop, round eyes, ears rather high set, scissor bite, strong neck of good length into well laid shoulder, forelegs straight, elbows close to body, deep chest, balanced angulation front and rear, displayed the free and active movement required even on a sports surface. I just could not deny her the top honours.

Reserve Best in Show went to the Beagle Foster and Jones Stormpasture Saddlesoop, another male who demanded my attention and he got it, this lemon and white masculine male has a good head and eye, low set ears, good length of neck into shoulder, good front and rear angulation, good depth of chest, round in bone, level topline, stifles well bent, tight feet and well knuckled, he moved with reach and drive.

Group 3 went to my BOB Whippet Dillon and Bailey Ch Collooney Eat My Shorts at Runforest JW, this silver brindle male has a masculine long and lead head that tapers towards the muzzle, dark oval eye, scissor bite, small rose shaped ears of correct texture, long neck into a lovely front assembly, straight forelegs with slight spring to pasterns, deep chest, well sprung ribs, definite tuck up with graceful arch over loin, stifles well bent, oval feet, long tapering tail, he showed reach and drive on the move.

Group 4 was another quality example, the Min Long-Haired Dachsund Mason Ch Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckletown, red girl certainly not showing her age, this pretty feminine veteran bitch presented a nice shape stacked and on the move, she has a nice head appearing conical from above, dark eye, scissor bite, long neck into well laid shoulder, prominent breastbone, balanced angulation, no age was letting this girl know that she was and still is a showgirl on the move with long free strides. Pleased to also award her Best Veteran In Show.

Best Puppy In Show went to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Parsons Priorpark Proof In Pudding, this puppy bitch walked in and I just could not stop looking at her, she has so much promise to her, she is a feminine balanced bitch, head rather broad, long muzzle, round eyes, high set ears, scissor bite, good length of neck into shoulder, balanced moderate angulation front and rear, deep chest, compact feet, clearly defined ridge, she had free movement which is true, am sure she will be pushing her kennel mate as she matures, such a bright future for her.

Puppy Group 2 went to the Basset Fauve De Bretagne Revens & Hyde Beabass Usha, again another young bitch who shows lots of promise, she has a beautiful head, ears set on level with the eyes, scissor bite, lovely balance to her, good body proportions, tail set on high, correct coat, moved well, another to watch.

Puppy Group 3 went to the Beagle bitch, Jones Clairdale Galatea who I was informed after judging that she was the daughter of my RBIS, like her sire she presented a lovely shape on the stack, she is very feminine and I loved her head and dark eye, low set long ears, scissor bite, long neck into shoulder, balanced angulation, good substance, level topline, tail set on high, she moved well but is still young so has so much more to come.

Finishing the line up for the puppies in Puppy Group 4 was my BPIB Whippet Bohosoul Bewitched, this feminine fawn bitch settled down a lot better by the end of the day than she had in the class earlier in the day which was good, she has a feminine head with dark oval eye, scissor bite, small rose shaped ears, long neck into well laid back shoulder, deep chest with filled out front, definite tuck up, ability to stand naturally over ground, showed freedom of movement.

1. Knowles Ch Tokaji Klassic Trickster At Sarawana, Basenji, black and tan male with correct eye and head proportions, small pointed and erect ears, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, forelegs straight with fine bone, compact level topline, high set curled tail, showing long and tireless strides on the move. Best Veteran Dog.

2. Parkes and Johnston Danluke Death by Chocolate For Rheagar JW, Whippet, lovely head and eye, scissor bite, small rose shaped ears, good length of neck, forelegs straight, pasterns with slight spring, deep chest, required body curves, well developed second thigh, stood over the ground, moved ok.

1. Mason Ch Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckletown, Min Long-Haired Dachsund, I awarded this girl Group 4 and have covered her critique within this. She ended up being my Best Veteran In Show.

2. Foote and Mcaulay Ir Ch Clonallan Just Beginnng Avec Erylan Sh cm Vet Ch VW, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, good head of moderate length, stop clearly defined, strong underjaw, oval dark eye, low set ears, scissor bite, long neck into well laid shoulder, elbows close to body, forelegs straight, back of medium length, tail set on high, balanced moderate angulation, moved well.

1. Mcintosh & Mackfall Chagall Lona with Attitude, Rhodesian Ridgeback, very promising puppy bitch who presented a nice shape on the stack, she has a nice feminine head, round eyes, high set ears, scissor bite, good length of neck into shoulder, balanced moderate angulation, deep chest, compact feet, clearly defined ridge, moved well.

2. Hutchinson Zenobia Just an Illusion with Sweetaurora, Whippet, fawn brindle male, presented a nice shape on the stack, good head with dark oval eye, scissor bite, good length of neck into shoulder, moderate angulations, definite tuck up with graceful arch to loin, well developed second thigh.

1. Smith Katanga’s Jessica Jones, Afghan Hound, feminine black and tan bitch, good head proportions, scissor bite, good length of neck into shoulder, moderate balanced angulation, good depth of chest, level topline, correct fallaway, was a little showgirl on the move covering the ground.

2. Paskins Kindeace Hit the Road Jack, Long-Haired Dachshund, this male has a nice head with a dark almond shaped eye, high set ears, good length of neck into shoulder, correctly placed forelegs, back level, balanced angulation, moved well.

1. Jardine Ch Tadrose North Star, Basenji, loved the arrogance of this bitch, she certainly proudly carries herself. This feminine girl has a good head with correct amount of wrinkles, dark almond eye, scissor bite, small pointed erect ears, long neck into shoulder, forelegs straight, correct body proportions, short level back, high set tail with curve of buttock extending beyond the root of the tail, moved well showing reach and drive.

2. Scanlon Kinabula’s All About the Bass JW Shcex, Osw, Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch, good head and round eye, moderate length of neck into shoulder, moderate angulation, straight forelegs, deep chest, well defined ridge, true on the move.

1. Paskins Kindeace Texas Ranger, Long-Haired Dachshund, red male with balanced proportions and sufficient ground clearance. Nice head with correct proportions appearing conical from above, scissor bite, high set ears, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, prominent breastbone with forelegs at lowest point of keel, ribs extending well back, free flowing movement with long strides.

2. Barlett Rasteau De La Foret D’aurix Avec Caelestibleu, Basset Bleu De Gascogne, masculine in head with oval eye, black nose, low set ears, good length of neck into shoulder, strongly boned forelegs, deep chest, back level, rear pasterns parallel, balanced on the move.

Jolly Negasi Elberith For Clanbruachan JW, Rhodesian Ridgeback. elegant bitch who I really liked, lovely head and eye, scissor bite, high set ears, fairly long length of neck, deep chest, balanced angulation, deep chest, strong loin, well defined ridge, good turn of stifle, compact well arched toes, low set tail strong at the root, moved true and free.

2. Murray Diheath Marta, 10 month old feminine bitch, good head and eye, scissor bite, balanced head proportions, low set ears, moderate length of neck, good depth of chest, needs to drop on the rear.

Best of Breed.

2. Johnston Burnvale Black Diamond JW, bitch of the larger size than the winner, balanced head proportions, correct shape eye, low set ears, good neck into shoulder, prominent forechest, level topline, did not want to perform today on the move.

Beautiful s curves and balanced angulation. Well developed second thigh and long tail. Moves with reach and drive and true on the down and back. Was pleased to award her Best Opposite Sex in Breed.
