Derbyshire Agricultural & Horticultural Society

Thank you to the committee for my judging invitation at this popular, well-run show. Yvonne and Paul both deserve medals for finding a new venue when only a few days earlier they had the news that the Derbyshire show was to be cancelled due to torrential rain. Many thanks to Rosie, my young steward who helped to keep the ring flowing and to the exhibitors who entered their hounds today.

1st Stevenson-Bramley Mr M & Mr J Revenite Mrs Bridges Well grown 19-month-old bitch. Feminine head of correct proportions with dark, lively expressive eyes and well-set ears. Balanced in angulations, she is strong in bone with just a slight crook in front legs. Her chest is deep with enough infill, lovely spring to her ribs and width to her loin. Shown in harsh coat, she moved soundly on the out and back, I just wished she carried her tail more enthusiastically.

1st Freudenreich, Miss C Rangali Shimmy Jimmy Impressive, soundly made 23-month-old male – who is just right up my street! I loved his beautifully proportioned, compact outline and fabulous harsh jacket. Masculine head that is moderately domed and of equal planes, with dark oval eyes, and good length to ears. Muscular neck into an excellent front assembly with depth and width to brisket. His back is broad and nicely ribbed with strength to his loin. Rear quarters are powerfully muscled, with strong, low hocks. Standing on quality bone with tight neat feet, he maintained his topline on the move using brisk free movement and perfect foot fall. 2nd Stevenson-Bramley Mr M & Mr J Revenite Mr Hudson 19-month-old male shown in super condition and good coat, he is litter mate to 1st in Post Graduate and cut from the same cloth. Slightly longer cast than ideal. He had a very attractive masculine head, with strength to his underjaw and strong dentition. Decent shoulder placement with depth to his chest; his rear quarters are muscular with well-bent stifles. Nicely handled, he moved steadily around the ring with correct tail set and carriage. RBOB

1st Taylor, Miss J L Ch Abbotsoak Carousel JW Stunning 6-year-old bitch. My notes say WOW! What an elegant, top-class girl she is. She looked an absolute picture on the stack; everything you would want in an Ibizan hound, from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail. A beautiful, feminine head that is long and lean with prominent occipital bone and large, fine mobile ears. Her long, gracefully arched neck fits smoothly into perfectly placed shoulders, with long, straight legs and neat, well-arched feet. She is level in topline, with a flat rib cage and curvy tuck up. Her rear is moderate and amply muscled with length to her second thigh. Such a neat and precise mover with a distinct hoover action. A quality, top-draw hound. BOB

2nd Taylor, Miss J L Yetti (Imp ESP) Graceful, 3-year-old rough coated bitch, still very young and needs time to mature. I liked her pretty, feminine head of good length and proportions. Her ears were large and mobile, although she didn’t always use them to her advantage. Balanced in angulations, her back is well-ribbed, and her chest is the correct depth. She held her topline on the move, just a little close in rear. RBOB

1st Dawson, Mrs F & Mr G Hydebeck Heart of Gold At Graefyn Substantial 2-year-old wheaten male. One I have judged before and and I was pleased to see that he is filling out nicely into his large frame. Strong, masculine head, with good length to muzzle, dark oval eyes and beautifully rosed ears. Long, muscular neck into a fair front assembly, forelegs straight with large feet. He has great depth of chest, giving him plenty of heart and lung room, his back is broad and well-ribbed, with a strong muscular loin. Shown in a super harsh coat, he looked good in profile, coping well with the heat. BOB

1st McHugh, Mrs V J Kamgaard Kloudberry Jam For Conrick Promising 11-month-old male, with plenty of substance for his age. He presented a lovely square outline on the stack. Masculine, wedge shaped head with dark expressive eyes and high set ears. Neck is strong, with well-laid shoulders and plenty of forechest. Topline is straight with good tail set and curl; his rear quarters are moderate with strong, parallel hocks. Confident and free in movement, this boy should have a bright future. BOB & BP

1st McHugh, Mrs V J Laakso Dina Of Conrick Well presented 5-year-old bitch. Feminine head, which is breed typical in shape, with dark eyes and small, pointed mobile ears. She is strong in neck with a well-made front assembly, standing with her elbows closely set in. Pleasing in body proportions, with a level topline and a short, muscular loin. She moved with a steady, free action. RBOB

1st Roberts, Mrs L & Mr S Celt’ And Dac Unlimited For The Charm (Imp Fra) This 17-month-old bitch was beautifully presented by her very confident 7-year-old junior handler. Pretty, feminine head, attractively chiselled, with large, well-placed mobile ears. Good length of neck into a decent front, she has depth to her brisket and a well-ribbed back. I liked her rear, which had width to second thigh and strong hocks. Steady mover around the ring, just a little untidy in front. A lovely partnership. BOB
