Coalville and District Canine Society Open Show

13th January 2024

Rhodesian Ridgeback

I extend my gratitude to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at this well organized large Open show. The rings and atmosphere were exceptional, and I was thoroughly impressed by both the quantity and high quality of the exhibits I had the privilege to judge.

PUPPY (4, 1A)

1st: Barnes, Miss K, DIAMONDRIDGE DREADNOUGHT - 6 month old male puppy of excellent breed type, substantial and balanced. A lovely head with correct eye color and expression. Strong neck merging onto a well-laid shoulder, visible forechest, good body length, depth of chest, length of ribbing, correct croup, perfect ridge, and stands on nice, tight feet. Good topline and underline, along with correct angulation fore and aft. While he still needs to develop his body, he moves well with excellent reach and drive. RBOB & BP

2nd: Hicks, Mr J & Mrs S, NUTHOUSE GOING FOR GOLD - 6 months old female puppy is still very much in her youthful stage. A pretty feminine head with a clean jaw, correct length of muzzle, and good teeth, complemented by a pleasing expression, beautiful dark eye, and correct ear carriage. Despite being lighter in bone, she exhibits good body length, a correct croup, excellent ridge, well-tucked-in elbows, and good hocks. She appeared a little unsettled on the move today and was not as fluent as the class winner.

JUNIOR (5, 1A)

1st: Smith, Mr W & Mrs A, UNGOWA HERE YOU COME AGAIN - 14 months old bitch with a mature body for her age. Overall well-balanced and built to function effectively. Feminine head with correct head plains, dark eyes, correct length of muzzle and well set ears. Her neck is nice and long, leading to a good lay of shoulder. Good depth of chest and well-filled front. Her body is of good length, and she maintains a strong top line both when standing and on the move. The front and rear angulation are correct, and she has an excellent ridge. Moved with great efficiency, maintaining a true gait both coming and going. BOB

2nd: Barnes, Miss K, DIAMONDRIDGE DREADNOUGHT - as before.

POST GRADUATE (4)

1st: Smith, Mr W & Mrs A, UNGOWA HERE YOU COME AGAIN - as before

2nd: Dawson, Mr G & Mrs K, PRIORPARK PROBLEM SOLVED - 16 months old red wheaten substantial male. Typical masculine head with round dark eyes, broad and flat skull with good ear placement. Some throatiness and would prefer a little longer muzzle. This boy has plenty of substance throughout, good depth to chest with infill, strong level top-line whilst stood and on the move. Good length of body with a nice turn of stifle. Moved well.

OPEN (3, 1A)

1st: Taylor, Mrs E, TOKWE TRULY A BLESSING – 4.5 year old well build bitch with ample substance throughout her body. Very nice head with correct level planes, a good length of muzzle, and the correct eye color. Her ears are slightly longer. A lovely reach of neck, well-laid shoulders, and a visible sternum. The chest is well filled, with good ribbing, and she has a good length of body. The top-line and ridge are both excellent. Stands on tight feet and has good angulation both in the front and rear. Her coat color is a beautiful mid wheaten. Moved with ease and grace, with a free-flowing and effortless action, which earned her the first place in her class today.

2nd: Nash, Mrs P, MUTOKO'S NOBLE ONE - 3.5 year old handsome red wheaten male. Masculine head with correct proportions, though slightly too strong. The eyes, ears and teeth all correct. He has a nice outline with a good length of body, strong bone, and sufficient angulations both fore and aft. Strong top-line which he held both on the stack and on the move. Nice ridge and good tail set. Excellent tight feet. Shown in superb, well-muscled condition, he moves with plenty of drive and as one with his handler.
