Lichfield Canine Society

LICHFIELD CANINE SOCIETY PREMIER OPEN SHOW – 6th January 2024

Samoyed

It was a great honour to be asked to judge my breed for Lichfield Canine Society, since this show was my first ever dabble into proper dog showing many moons ago. Many thanks to the committee’s invitation, my stewards’ assistance, and the exhibitors for their entries.

Puppy (3, 2)

1st McGroarty & Rushton‘s Lola Bella. A 7-month-old baby girl with feminine head and thick padded ears. Good proportion, ribcage developing, covered with a harsh coat expected for her age and finished with a lovely tailset. Alert and receptive, she will gain more showmanship once her handler chalks up more experience and confidence in the ring. BP

Junior (4, 2)

Not too much between these two younglings, similar in age, both girls are maturing up nicely.

1st Mann‘s Silbertips And All That Jazz. 17-month-old, Lovely head with good length of muzzle, correct eye shape and colour. Good bone, strong loin, and well-toned body. Once settled, moved with a balance, level topline, strong drive with good usage of feet.

2nd Walton’s Donatella Versace. 16-month-old girl with a pretty face and an affectionate Sammy smile. Good pigmentation all round. Well placed ears and correct bite. Plush coat over a well bodied frame. Seems to be gaining more confidence on each showing, moved steadily with grace. Just slightly less drive than 1.

Post Graduate (4, 3)

1st Tarasinska’s Siberianmist Lagertha. Just shy of 2 ½-year-old, together with her handler, both young ladies moved well as one. Correct wedge-shaped head with kind expression, well placed eyes and ears with correct bite. Coat well presented, deep chest, well bodied, prefer a bit more arch to her neck but overall, a well-balanced specimen. On this occasion, just pipped by her litter brother and a more fully developed bitch.

Open (7, 2)

1st Tarasinska’s Siberianmist Odin. The aforementioned litter brother, the only boy amongst the girls, which automatically made him stand out majestically. Balanced wedge-shaped head, thick furry ears well set and expressive eyes giving an overall lovely character expression. Neck with good arch, strong shoulders, muscular body with ample bone, well developed ribcage and strong loin, powerful rear assembly with good angulations. Superb coat condition with good carriage of tail, giving an outline that is to size. Moved with power and maintaining a good and even drive. Have been watching his progress with interest, hopefully this will be the year he can establishes himself as one of the top dogs. BOB. Was able to watch him get shortlisted in the Pastoral Group later on the day.

2nd Hunt’s Artsam Adored. 4-year-old young lady. Lovely feminine head, Well set ears, expressive eyes, correct bite coupled with good pigmentation, creating a lovely ‘Sammy smile’. Strong structural frame with good angulations all round, with well-toned muscles giving an overall picture that is perfect for function.  Everything she has is correct, which may sound unspectacular, but it also means that she’s got no exaggerations either. Her movement is effortless, but on this occasion,  in this ring, 1 just got a little bit more fluidity throughout and round bends.  RBOB.
