My thanks to the lovely committee for inviting me back to judge their show. The whole gang pulled together in quite difficult circumstances to pull off an excellent show. Thanks also to the exhibitors of a few classes and breeds who sportingly accepted me as replacement judge. My line ups for Best in Show, Best Puppy and Best Veteran were terrific, I was truly spoiled for choice.
For BIS I chose the delightful Saluki Layton-Smith’s CH Velourias Dee Dee Vine. She was in excellent condition, graceful and dignified as she moved effortlessly with a typical light action. Correct conical head, almond shaped eye. Clean front with well-developed chest. Well ribbed. Level back, with strong and slightly arched loin. Good angulation front and rear. RBIS was Mackie, England & Briggs’ Affenpinscher CH Vanistica Boogie Woogie at Hawksflight. So full of himself, the very essence of comic seriousness. He is well built, sound and sturdy, moved very well with correct lively, strutting action. A good body, short and straight back, no exaggeration in underline and carrying his tail well. Loved his head, and eye and shaggy hair giving him the desired monkey like expression.
BPIS was Simpson’s Soletrader Surfs Up Stan (PBGV). Sometimes a dog walks in the ring and you just can’t stop smiling, this young man was so happy and full of the joys of life, he just filled my eye immediately. He has a lot to offer, he is balanced, sound and well-constructed which shows through in his movement, covering the ground with ease with good reach in front and drive from strong and well angulated hindquarters. Correct body proportions, level topline and strong loin. Loved him. RBPIS was the Sheltie Robins’ Lavika Sunset Rose another absolutely delightful puppy that had also won the adult group and was a competitor at that level. So very sound, graceful and energetic on the move, covering a lot of ground with ease. Under the coat she is in excellent condition, well built and proportionate throughout. I have no doubt that these two puppies will be troubling the best.
BVIS was Stansbury’s Woodbriar Fix Up Look Sharp JW ShCM ShCEx VW Doberman. A cracking example of the breed, in tip top condition and so well proportioned, with no exaggeration at all. Long and clean head, high set ears. Strong neck flowing cleanly to well laid shoulders and strong back and loin. Moved effortlessly with excellent drive and maintaining his topline. RBVIS was the Tibetan Spaniel CH Souska Devotion VW. full of class and quality. Well balanced throughout, sound and well-constructed. Coat in good condition, richly plumed tail that he carried well over his back. Level back, moved well with free and positive action. Head small in proportion to body, high set ears, dark eye and slightly domed skull.
Boxers J 1 Tonkin, Pellow & Pellow’s Rosanyos Kiss the Girls. Nicely proportioned head without any exaggeration, dark eyes. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulders, moved well. BOB
PG J Tonkin, Pellow & Pellow’s Rosanyos Flamenco Dancer. Deep chest, well angulated hindquarters. Head was proportionate and balanced with broad muzzle and well padded lips. 2 Hosking’s Winiwuk Wannabe at Kaosmar. Moved well coming and going. Well balanced head with correct proportions.
OD 1 Burnett’s Sushe Too Cool to Fool. Powerful dog, correctly balanced, moved with power and drive, covering the ground freely but would have preferred more reach in front. Strong and well arched neck. RBOB. 2 Richards’ Markinshell Pombear at Dajoxx. Good reach of neck, strong front and hindquarters, level topline and well set tail.
OB 1 Burnett’s Sushe Too Hot To Handle. Nicely balanced overall, square with a level topline when stood. Tight feet, good rear angulation.
Cocker Spaniels. Replacement judge for this breed, thank you to the exhibitors for accepting me as the replacement at short notice.
P 1 Small’s Albertean Minerva. Well balanced, compact, in excellent condition, full of character. Square muzzle, strong jaw, low set ears. Moved well, covering the ground with drive. Coat in good condition. BPIB. 2 Heard’s Alberten Aletheia. Substantially boned, short and compact with good rear angulation, moved very well. 3 Miller’s Eddeswarren Emerald City.
L 1 Green’s Cachel Pop The Question to Meloneras JW. Well balanced in outline, masculine head, sound and true on the move. RBOB. 2 Miller’s Eddeswarren Moonlight. Nicely built, balanced overall, good level topline, moved well with drive. 3 Small’s Corazon De Sibi Old Fashioned.
O 1 Salmon’s Crimicar Indigo Eclipse. Well balanced, compact, in excellent condition, full of character. Square muzzle, strong jaw, low set ears. Moved well, covering the ground with drive. Coat in good condition. BOB.
Beagles PG 1 Hoper’s Davricard Jacobean. Not a happy dog today. Liked his head and eye. Has good bone and substance. Found him a little long in loin but he carried his topline well, has a well set tail and moved very well. BOB.
Afghan Hound O Dunstan & Waterhouse’s Shimalma Disaronno at Tazkindi. Appealing for his overall outline and balance. He moved well, sound in both directions and stylish. BOB.
Dachshund LH P 1 Ashby’s Rayol Dallas Cowboys at Jaxinorydaz. Still young and not very settled in this class but was on better form later in the day for the puppy group. Liked his head and expression, neat and tidy feet, nicely set and carried tail. BPIB.
O 1 Burley & Way’s Swansford Almadora. Compact and well-muscled with good free movement. Liked her head and intelligent expression, dark and well set eyes. Moved well, covering the ground with ease, thought he had stronger hindquarters to drive him than 2. BOB. 2 Butler’s Tekalhaus Our Girl from Drymoor. Good outline, correct for size and balance. Muscular, long neck, carrying head proudly. RBOB.
Dachshund MLH P 1 Way’s Ralines Way And Means. Correctly proportioned head, intelligent expression, dark eyes and wells et ears. Good length of rib. Good bone and neat, tidy feet. BPIB.
J 1 Small’s Kenzduo Monday Mojito at Devondax. Correct for size and well balanced, good level topline and well set and carried tail, back end a little weak with affected the quality of movement going away.
PG 1. Clark’s Minard I'm So Fancy. Correct for size and shape, nicely balanced, long and tapering head with intelligent expression. Strong neck, carrying her head proudly. Moved with free and flowing action. 2. Westaway’s Abbilis Maleficent at Treranch. Good front and hindquarters, level topline, moved well. 3 Way’s Sudasam Arbennik True Dream.
O 1 Butler’s CH Minard Out Of The Darque from Drymoor JW. Delightful bitch with a typical balanced outline, everything in moderation. Long tapering head and slightly arched muzzle. Carried her head proudly. Level topline, moved well covering the ground with ease and co-ordination. BOB. 2 Westaway’s Abbilis Jive Talking at Treranch.. Another quality male, he moved well, sound and balanced, I preferred the head and carriage of the winner. 3 Grose’s Belvydach Proper Job
Dachshund MSH J 1 Small’s From Redteckel Story Maxin for Devondax. Correct for size and overall shape, sound and well put together she moved with good free action and covered the ground well driving from strong hindquarters. BPIB. 2 Kilroy’s Janacop Magic May. Appealing bitch with correct head and clean, string neck. Good topline. 3 Grose’s Daxiemoore Hot To Trot.
PG 1 Landry’s Royaldach Dakotas Darling. Good body, depth of chest and length of rib, level topline, well set and carried tail.
O 1 Wilkinson & Wakeham’s Bronia Gabriel for Wakywilks. Overall very sound, well-constructed and balanced, I liked his head and expression, dark eyes and high set ears. Correct front, good depth of chest, level topline, correctly set and carried tail. Moved with aplomb, coving the ground effortlessly and carrying himself well. BOB. 2 Landry’s Siousline Elizabeth at Dutchyroyal. Lovely head and expression. Correct shape and good ear set. Excellent topline, held on the move. Good length of rib. Good bone and neat, tidy feet. 3 Tree’s Keimantre Molly Moo.
Dachshund MWH P 1 Kilroy’s Do Smarties at Janacop. Correct for size and excellent temperament, sound and nicely angulated, good depth of chest, level topline that she held throughout. BPIB
O 1 Effer’s Greyhayne Hector. Quality type with good front and rear quarters. Good head and expression. Clean neck and shoulders, good depth of chest. Firm topline which was held well on the moved. Excellent movement. Short, harsh coat, good furnishing on feet. BOB.
Ibizan Hound OB 1 Carter’s Amahte's Bewitched VW. 12 yo, in very good, agile condition. Nicely balanced throughout, finely built, straight legs and string pasterns. Well arched toes. Typical suspended trotting action on the move. BOB.
Whippet P 1 Pedley-Biggins’ Doddridge Dazzle Um with Viscar. Balanced and moderately angulated. Appealing head with kind expression, nice flowing lines with no exaggeration. Correct topline, moved well with typical action. BPIB. 2 Kenyon’s Doddridge It wasn't Me. Sound and well-constructed, moved well, on the large side. 3 Galvin’s Viscar Lagartha's Devotion.
Y 1 Pedley-Biggins’ Viscar Dances with Lerryn. Well angulated front and rear, correct top and underline. On the move she excelled showing the true whippet movement.
PG 1 Stephen’s Jasteal Knight Of Kynance. Good size and shape, strong bone, well angulated, moved out well with typical daisy cutting action. 2 Livsey’s Palmik Ace Of Spades Excellent front and well angulated rear. Moved well but preferred the sixe of 1. 3 Ellis’ Whipaway Tiger Star.
OD 1 Livsey’s Bryntreia Sea Of Love. Excellent outline and balanced throughout with no exaggeration. Well angulated hindquarters giving good drive on the move, correct topline. RBOB.
OB 1 Hooper’s Veredon Veuve Clicquot avec Tobers. Well balanced with moderate angulation. Appealing head with kind expression, flowing lines with no exaggeration. Correct topline with a slight rise over the loin. Moved beautifully, with typical action and was true coming and going. BOB. 2 Stephens’ Jasteal Goddess Of Godrevy Good parallel movement coming and going. Nice head with appealing expression.
Bassett Fauve de Bretagne O 1 Carter’s Gouvier Espresso Martini. A smart dog but clearly had eaten something that disagreed with him. Nice head with sufficient foreface and dark eyes. Moved well, reaching our and covering the ground with ease. BOB.
Bassett Hound O 1 Turner’s Devonhound Who's That Girl. Substantial and well balanced, clearly fit for purpose in excellent condition. Well-muscled body with excellent angulation, moved effortlessly with powerful drive. BOB.
Saluki O 1 CH Velourias Dee Dee Vine. 2 Rickard’s Velouraise Las Vegas. Another quality example of the breed, elegant and stylish, moving with lightness and ease.
AVNSC Hound P 1 Simpson’s Soletrader Surfs Up Stan (PBGV). 2 Ashby’s SH Dachshund. Rayol Dallas Cowboys at Jaxinorydaz. Sound and well put together, good topline that he retained on the move. 3 Rycroft’s Carpaccio Queen Consult for Trisensara.
O 1 Rycroft’s SH Dachshund Jacksondax Hornet Hurrah. Sound dog of good quality type. Correct front and well angulated, strong hindquarters. Good head and expression. Clean neck and shoulders, good depth of chest. Firm topline which was held well on the moved. Excellent movement. BAVNSC. 2 Rycroft’s Fantastic Frank at Trisensara JW. Similar to 1, thought the winner brough more style and attitude and was a bit more compact. 3 Carter’s Sloughi Aabidah de Polvo Magico.
AV Hound Veteran 1 Stephen’s Whippet Dolce Diva Divine N Delary at Jasteal. Good size and shape, strong bone, well angulated, moved out well with typical daisy cutting action. 2 Wills’ WH Dachshund Cicelane Magnus at Kasalane. Sound and strong bodied, with good topline, good harsh coat, moved well. 3 Westaway’s Abbilis Jive Talking at Treranch.

AVNSC Utility O 1 Cooper & Critchlow’s German Spitz Klein. Oberitz Sweet N'spicy for Pavoskas. Compact, sound and in good condition. Moved with effortless action maintaining a level topline throughout. Wedge shaped head with broad skull; small high set ears; dark eyes. 2 Pearce’s Eurasier Albionspitz Diphda. Sound and balanced, moved well with good drive, coat in good condition, dark eye, well set, triangular ears.
AV Utility Veteran 1 1 Cooper & Critchlow’s German Spitz Klein. Oberitz Sweet N'spicy for Pavoskas. 2 Denton’s Chenrezi Love On The Rocks at Tremorvah. Sound, well-constructed, nicely shaped and dark eye, short neck, good topline, correctly set and carried tail.
AV Utility Vintage Three absolutely delightful Tibbies in this class, I was spoiled for choice. 1 Rice’s Ch Souska Devotion VW. 2 Ferncott Rave On ShCM VW. Masculine, sound and very well constructed, moving beautifully with typical action. Level topline, high set tail, carried correctly with goo feathering. 3 Yllastel Suki Takes It Off For Quintrelle VW.
UTILITY GROUP 1 – Simpson’s Tibetan Terrier CH Incalux Xplorer with Anouskarn. 11 yo and an absolute delight to go over. Square, sturdy and sound. She is balanced throughout, in excellent muscular condition, level topline that she held throughout and short loin. Has good angulation and correct bone, moved with typical effortless stride and good reach in front. Coat in great condition. 2 – Shar Pei Balanced, sound and moved around the ring with such presence. Loved her head, with correct proportions and moderate wrinkle and neat, well set ears. Good length of neck leading to well-laid shoulders; short, strong back.
My sincerest apologies to other dogs placed in the Utility and Puppy Group. I was a replacement judge on the day and in the pile of extra slips and notes I was trying to manage I lost these.
