NORTHWICH & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY PREMIER OPEN SHOW 16.06.24
Many thanks to the Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge at their first premier show. The layout with large rings in the in/out marquees was akin to a championship show and it was a pleasure to judge. It was an added bonus that the rain held off too. Many thanks to my stewards who worked hard to keep the ring running efficiently. Thank you to all the exhibitors for such a super number of entries. It was a pleasure to go over your lovely dogs.
CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL.
P (4,1) 1 and BP. Parsons’ Anjomil Moonflower. Pretty, feminine seven month old. She won this class on her overall balance when standing and when on the move. She has a lovely head and expression with eyes set well apart and ears set on high with an almost flat skull, giving that typical soft expression. She has a good outline - short coupled with balanced front and rear angulation. On the move she retained her level topline and moved with drive. A confident and happy girl who really seemed to be enjoying her day out. I was very pleased to hear that she was awarded second in the puppy group under breed specialist Elaine Williams. 2. Lunt’s Oaktreepark Royal Bliss. At eleven months old she is obviously more mature than the winner. It was a close decision between these two but the winner was more settled on the move today. Another lovely head and expression with correct eye and ear placement. Balanced outline with good front and rear angulation. Moved well when settled but not with as much confidence and drive as the winner. 3. Kitson’s Kadoogels Cerinthe.
J (5,1) 1 and BOB. Lee’s Kelrick Trinity. Another lovely class of promising youngsters. This sixteen month old appeared to be a very happy little soul, showing very well for her owner. She has a typical head and expression with correct eye and ear placement. Balanced outline. Not flashy but everything in proportion with nothing overdone. Level topline which she held on the move. Moved with drive. I was pleased to award her BOB and delighted to hear that she won fourth in the group under breed specialist Elaine Williams. 2. Parsons’ Anjomil Moonflower. 3. Owen’s Narayden That’s Magic.
PG (5) 1 and RBOB Taylor’s Luvtayls Flashdance. This two year old won on her overall balance and movement. She has a good head and expression with correct eye and ear placement and almost flat skull, giving that typical soft expression. She has a balanced outline. Short coupled with balanced front and rear angulation. Level topline which she held on the move. Parallel movement with enough drive from the rear. 2. Lee’s Kelrick Diamond Girl. This sixteen month girl is litter sister to the previous class winner and many of the same comments apply. At this age I prefer her sister’s head and expression but there isn’t much between the two and over time they could swap places. She has a balanced outline with correct short coupling. Good front and rear angulation. Level topline which she held on the move. Moved with drive. 3. Taylor’s Lovtayl Rave About.
O (5) A strong class in which any of the first three could easily swap places on another day. 1. Lee’s Conchellia Vivi Velvette by Kelrick. This two year old won this class on her overall presentation and movement. She has a pretty head and expression with correctly placed round eyes, high set ears and an almost flat skull. Moved well, maintaining her level topline on the move. 2. Taylor’s Peakdowns Rosa at Luvtayl. Four year old who won this place on her movement. Good eye and ear placement with almost flat skull. Not at all flashy but she has a balanced outline with nothing overdone. Good rear angulation which she used to drive forward on the move. 3. Parsons’ Anjomil Harvest Moon JW.
PUG
Eleven entries but a disappointing number of absentees, due in part to Border Union taking place on day before this show. This left only two exhibits for me to judge. Nevertheless, I was pleased with both of them.
P (4,2) 1 and BOB and BP. Lunam’s Anzhela Scent Jude. This nine month old shouted ‘look at me’ as soon as he entered the ring. A real showman. Solid, cobby boy with plenty of attitude. Stood four square, presenting a typical outline. Masculine head and expression with good, dark pigment and correct ear set. Enough wrinkle but not overdone. Good, level topline which he held on the move. Typical front movement but needs to tighten in rear movement. I’m sure this could come as he matures. Pleased to award him BOB and delighted to hear that he went on to win fourth in the puppy group. 2 and RBOB. Bailey’s Bilohka Baby Browning. This six month old was a little overwhelmed today. Feminine head and expression with lovely dark pigment and correct amount of wrinkle. Balanced, cobby outline with correct angulation. When standing she had a level topline but unfortunately lost it slightly on the move because she wasn’t very confident. When settled, she moved well with straight front and rear action, but sadly her tail was down which spoiled the outline. Unfortunately she didn’t show herself well today. I understand that she had a bad experience recently which has knocked her confidence. I do hope she gets her confidence back as she had a lot of good qualities.
J (3,2) 1. Lunam’s Anzhela Scent Jude. PG (0) O (4,4).
CHIHUAHUA (SC) Thanks to the exhibitors for a lovely entry. Some were a little overwhelmed today, spooking at the wind, flapping gazebos, tannoy and aircraft overhead. Some exhibits who I’m sure would do well on another day, were placed lower today because they didn’t show to their best advantage. I made some allowances for this but some were so overwhelmed that it was almost impossible to judge their movement. Most were affected by the slightly long grass – quite difficult when you only have little legs – but the main winners were not fazed by the grass and still showed well.
P (7,2) 1 and BOB and BP. Alexander’s Alderxena Ruler of a Kingdom. This eight month old showed with typical attitude. He looked like he believed he was ruling his own little kingdom. Handsome, masculine head and expression with correct apple dome skull without exaggeration. Ears correctly set at 45 degrees. Good round eye. Compact outline without too much length in the loin. Straight front, balanced angulation front and rear. Moved very well with correct, brisk action without any hackneying. Level topline into a thick, furry tail which he carried well. Moved with drive. 2. Alexander’s Alderxena Interstellar. Litter sister to the winner and many of the same comments apply. Feminine head and expression with correctly set eyes and ears. Good overall outline with balanced outline. Moved well but her brother just had a little more drive and showmanship today. 3. Baker’s Silverbriar Sweet Juliet.
J (4,1) 1 and RBOB. Alexander’s Alderxena Pocket Rocket. Litter brother to BOB. Won this class and RBOB with his brisk, purposeful movement. He truly is a pocket rocket. Masculine head and expression with correct round eye and correct ear set. Pleasing outline with balanced angulation. Like his siblings he moved very well with a brisk action, straight legs and no hackneying. Very close decision between him and his brother for BOB. 2. Fothergill’s Diamonchi Miss Beautiful. This seventeen month old truly lived up to her name. She has a beautiful head and expression – so feminine. Correct apple dome head without exaggeration. Good ear set and attractive round, dark eye. Balanced outline without too much length. Level topline into correctly set, furry tail. She moved well but not with as much drive as the winner today. 3. Baker’s Silverbriar Little Mouse.
PG (3) 1. Alexander’s Alderxena Interstellar. 2. Fothergill’s Diamonchi Miss Beautiful. 3. Entwhistle’s Cazants The Geisha Luvs Dorenty.
O (3,1) 1. Smith’s Moltobello Miss Myrtle of Hulawawas. Close decision in this class. This three year old won on her overall balance and movement. I’d like a little less of her, but she is balanced and in proportion. Good apple dome head with correct eye shape and ear placement. Presented a balanced outline with good front and rear angulation. Level topline which she held on the move. Straight front and rear action with no hackneying. 2. Fothergill’s Diamonchi Miss Sparkel JW. Litter sister to second in junior. She too is beautiful and I can see how she’s achieved her JW. However, today, she wasn’t entirely settled when standing on the table or on the ground and didn’t move as confidently as the winner. Lovely head and expression with dark, round eyes and correctly set ears. Level topline into correctly set, furry tail. When settled she held her topline and carried her tail well when moving.
CHIHUAHUA (LC) Thanks to the exhibitors for a lovely entry. As with the smooths, some were a little overwhelmed today, spooking at the wind, flapping gazebos, tannoy and aircraft overhead.
P (3,1) 1 and RBOB and BP. Baker’s Silverbriar Olivia. This nine month old won on her overall balance and movement. Good head and expression with correct ear set and round, dark eyes. Balanced front and rear angulation. Straight front legs. Level topline into good tail set. For her age she has good feathering on her ears, legs and tail. Retained her topline and tail carriage while moving. Parallel movement with drive. 2. Lewis’ Tyssul Eurwen Fach. Pretty seven month old. Not quite as confident as the winner, she spooked at little which affected her movement today. Attractive, promising puppy. Good head shape and ear set.
J (4,1) 1. Fothergill & Hunt’s Caballie Madame Barbie. This thirteen month old won on her overall balance and proportions. Nice size and not too long in the loin. Very pretty head and expression with correct eye and ear placement. Level topline into well set tail. Good coat. She was unsettled on the table and didn’t show to her best advantage today. She also won the PG class and I seriously considered her for BOB but unfortunately she wasn’t on top form today. 2. Skinner’s Mujerosa Hats Of To You JW. This fourteen month old boy was slightly longer cast than the winner but still has a balanced in outline. Liked his size. Good head with correct round eyes and well set ears. Unfortunately he didn’t always show his ears today. When he was persuaded to show his ears he had a lovely expression. Good, level topline. Carried his tail well on the move. Moved well when settled. 3. Baker’s Silverbriar Timothy.
PG (5) 1. Fothergill & Hunt’s Caballie Madame Barbie. 2. Skinner’s Mujerosa Lucky For Me JW. Litter brother to second in junior and some of the same comments apply. Masculine head without any coarseness. Good ear placement. Good topline which he held on the move. Moved well with good rear drive but occasionally a little untidy in front. Presented and shown very well. 3. Wills’ Dorentys Chuckleberry Fin.
O (8,2) Super class to judge. I was nit-picking between the first three who could all change places on another day. 1 and BOB. Fothergill’s I’m A Dream Adeline Is My Name (Imp Ita). Very pretty two year old. She showed very well today despite being very excited by the interesting smells on the grass! She won on her overall balance and movement. She has substance but is still dainty and elegant. Good head and expression with correct, dark eyes and lovely ear placement. Used her ears well at all times. When settled (and not sniffing the grass) she moved very well, parallel coming and going and with a level topline. Well set tail which she carried correctly on the move. 2. Entwhistle’s Ch Dorentys Heidi Hi. Close decision between the winner and this four year old. Pretty and dainty girl with a typical head and expression. Well set ears and lovely round eyes. Compact, balanced outline with good front and rear angulation. Moved well with enough drive. 3. Skinner’s Tyssul Awel Y Mynydd.
