Yorkshire Gundog Club

I want to thank the committee for the invitation to judge GWPs, the exhibitors for graciously accepting their places, and the stewards for their help. This was my 1st time judging the breed and I was honoured to have such a lovely entry, with only 1 absentee. I was looking for an athletic dog slightly longer than tall with the correct wire coat.

Puppy (3/3)
1st Geary’s Becka Dreams of Little Prince at Germanus (Imp Hun) Naf Raf
A lovely type and at just 6 months will be interesting to watch her mature. Good head and a hazel eye, nice neck with a good lay of shoulder. Well ribbed but would prefer a little more length to the body, moderate rear with a well-set tail which was carried well to complete her picture. Was pleased to learn she went Reserve Best Puppy in Show later in the day.
2nd Cox’s Ovetil Class Act
10 month old larger male. Good head with correct proportions, slightly lighter in the eye at the moment but this should darken. Good chest and shoulders level top line and well-angled rear.

Graduate (4/3)
1st Clements’ Lower Dee Willow
My first impression of her was what an honest girl, 6 year old liver and white, with lovely proportions and depth of chest. Loved her head and eye and she has well laid shoulders, well-boned, with tight feet and pasterns. Held her topline well on the move and very true to and from. Correct wire coat. I appreciated so much about her.
2nd Johnston’s Glenquin The General
Younger 18-month-old black and white male, who has a gorgeous head, good neck and shoulders with a strong top line, well-angled rear, with a correct tail set, which was carried well on the move. Tight wire coat. I preferred the proportions on 1 on the day but this boy is still maturing.

Open (6/6)
What a wonderful class to have the opportunity judge
1st Johnson’s Sh Ch Glenquin Athena
6-year-old, Liver and white impressive bitch who is a true showgirl and shown in fabulous hard condition. Balanced on the stack and powerful the move. Good neck in to well-laid shoulders, well boned legs with tight feet. A strong level topline which was held on the move, well sprung rib cage, and strong loin. Muscled quarters that are strong and parallel, she powers on the move at one with her handler. Pleased to aware her best of breed and to hear she went on to win Reserve Best in Show.
2nd O’Connors’ Sh Ch Karlejay Gump they live in Yu
6-year-old liver and white male who has a lot to appreciate in type and soundness. An honest dog of moderate size with a typical head and dark eye, nice shoulder placement tight elbows with straight legs with ample bone. Well angled rear which he used on the move. Appreciated his action coming towards and I felt he was the tidiest on the day in this area. Was pleased to be able to award him reserve best of breed.
