Breed Open Show 19th October 2024
I would like to thank the SRRA committee for giving me the honour of judging today and all the exhibitors for allowing me the opportunity to go over their dogs. As the journey down to the venue was challenging with such bad weather, I was relieved and thankful to see that the committee had ordered good weather for the show itself, allowing both dogs and owners to enjoy their day. I would like to say thank you to our steward Adam Hawkins for keeping the ring running smoothly, it makes a huge difference and really is appreciated.
I was pleased to see that all temperaments were ok, ridges acceptable and bites good. One or two of the youngsters who are at the beginning of their show careers took a little while to settle, but with careful sympathetic handling they soon settled and enjoyed their day. The veteran classes were especially pleasing to judge and serve as a great reminder of how health and longevity should be a key aim in our breeding plans. A huge credit is due to their breeders and owners.
We do seem to have a few traits creeping in, one of which I have noticed is upright forequarters, restricting that easy free and active movement that we look for. Overall though I was pleased to find that the quality was good and there were some truly outstanding exhibits who you cannot help but admire.
