Parti-Coloured Cocker Spaniel Club

I would like to thank the committee of the Parti-Coloured Cocker Spaniel Club for the opportunity to judge my first breed open show on Saturday 8 June 2024. Baginton Village Hall is a homely venue in a lovely village. The setting, committee and exhibitors created a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately the sun didn’t quite shine enough for the show to be held outside until the challenge when it was great to see all the winners presented on the large grass ring. Much appreciate to my ring steward, Ian Scott and his able assistant, Sharon who stepped in last minute for the leg work and brought back memories of the many times she’s stewarded for me over the years. Finally, to the exhibitors, for without whom, there is no show; thank you for entering and allowing me the opportunity to go over all the lovely dogs and for accepting my placings so graciously.

Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch [3 2]

1 Stokes-Harrell Chezza Mr Moonlight 5 month old orange & white ticked male of excellent breed type, presented in lovely condition, he has a nice head, good proportions, very balanced for one so young with strong bones and cat like feet. Nice height to length being very square and cobby. Sound coming and going and held a firm top line in movement. A very promising baby.

Minor Puppy Dog [4 2]

1 Whitehead Ryallcourt Twis Tan Shout 7 month old Black White & tan male who caught my eye once he came in to the ring, he has a lovely head and expression, very good reach of neck which flow into well placed shoulders with a well angled upper arm of good length. He stands on firm cat like feet with strong straight legs. Firm back with well-developed ribs for one so young and a strong wide loin. Excellent hindquarters with a good turn of stifle and short firm hocks. In movement he presented a pleasing picture holding his topline and had a very good forereach and excellent hind drive. A very promising puppy with I’m sure a bright future. Best Minor Puppy on the day.

2 Dolan Snowgate Shine On 7 month blue pup with a lot to like, nice head and tight rimmed eyes, good reach of neck on correct shoulders with a long well angled upper arm. He stands on correct straight legs with good feet & pasterns. Very good proportions being square & cobby, good rib & a short strong loin. Correct straight topline and very good hind quarters with strong hocks. Sound coming & going, holding a firm topline.

Minor Puppy Bitch [4 1]

1 Nicholas Nickarlyn Voodoo Magic 8 month old Black & White Ticked female of excellent breed type, she has a lovely head and expression with a good reach of neck flowing into a well-placed shoulder and a long well angled upper arm. She stands on firm cat like feet with excellent bone strength & straight front legs. Firm topline with well sprung ribs and a short wide loin. Excellent hindquarters with very good turn of stifle and strong hocks, in movement she maintains a firm topline with good front reach & drive.

2 Harrison Ryallcourt Modern Mille for Glenbrows 7 month old Light Blue female another excellent example of breed type, appealing head & a melting expression, good length of neck sitting on a well-placed shoulder and a good length and angle of the upper arm . She has excellent bone and firm feet with straight front legs. She has a firm topline with a strong wide loin and excellent ribs. Very good hind quarters and good turn of stifle. Sound coming & going, maintaining a firm topline in movement. Two very promising youngsters who gave me a real dilemma and will no doubt swap places with each other many times.

Puppy Dog [2 0]

1 Shapland Deracor Duty Paid 10 month old Blue Roan of excellent breed type, he has a lovely masculine head and tight rimmed dark eyes, good reach of neck which flows into very good shoulder placement with good length and angle of the upper arm, he has excellent bone strength with firm cat like feet and straight front legs. He has a firm straight back with well sprung ribs & a short wide loin, very good hindquarters and good turn of stifle. Very sound coming and going, maintains a firm topline & excellent front reach. Best puppy on the day due to his overall strength and maturity. A very promising, pleasing puppy who should enjoy a bright future.

2 Harrison Glenbrows Blue Sherbert 11 month Light Blue male of very good breed type, excellent head & expression with dark eyes, presented in good coat & condition with a good reach of neck sitting on good shoulders. He has a good length & angle of the upper arm with straight front legs and good feet & pasterns. His topline is straight with a good spring of rib and a short wide loin. Very good hindquarters and good turn of stifle. Sound coming and going with a free front reach. Two very promising male puppies who I’m sure will battle with each other many times but today I preferred the strength & cobbyness of the winner.

Puppy Bitch [2 1]

1 Shapland Deracor Duty Free 10 month old Dark Blue female of good type presented in good coat & condition. She has a lovely head & expression with dark eyes, nice reach of neck on correct shoulders with a good angle and length of the upper arm. Stands on correct feet with strong straight columns. She is very short & cobby with a correct topline. Sound coming and going with good reach & drive maintaining a level top line in movement.

Junior Dog or Bitch [6 4]

1 Roberts & Smith Troverthway Jimmy Cricket 14 month old Blue Roan male of very good breed type, presented in lovely coat and condition. He has a good head with dark eyes, nice reach of neck and correct shoulder placement with a good angle of the upper arm. Stands on good feet with straight columns, short & cobby with a good rib and short wide loin. He has very good hindquarters and short hocks. In movement he maintains a correct level topline, sound coming & going which completes a pleasing picture.

2 Mason Leechbaby Hot Shoe Shuffle to Sandlauga 13 month Blue Roan female who today had left her best frock at home but that doesn’t take away from her lovely breed type. She has a nice head with melting expression & dark eyes, a good reach of neck and correct shoulders with a good length & angle of the upper arm. Standing on good feet and strong bones, sound coming & going. In movement maintains a level topline with good reach and drive.

Yearling Dog or Bitch [3 2]

1 Darby Classicway Chiming Bells 18 month Blue Roan female of excellent breed type. Some loss of coat from her trimmings but was in overall beautiful condition, she has a lovely head & expression with dark tight rimmed eyes. She has the correct height to length ratio, very square & cobby. She has a lovely length of neck which flows into correctly placed shoulders with a long well angled upper arm. Stands on correct feet with very straight columns and a well sprung ribs and a short wide loin. In movement she retains a correct topline with excellent front reach at all speeds, sound coming and going, a very pleasing female from the top-drawer.

Novice Dog or Bitch [3 2]

1 Beddows Glowhill Stairway to Heaven 19-month Dark Blue male of very good breed type with a lovely head and expression with dark tight rimmed eyes. He has a very nice head and expression with a good stop and correct length of neck sitting on correct shoulders. He has a long well angled upper arm of good length with correct feet & pasterns with strong straight limbs. He has a correct topline with a strong wide loin and a good angle of the crop, correct coming and going and retains a lovely topline in movement.

Special Novice Dog or Bitch [4 1]

1 Buck Clavaire Vintage Tan 13 month Orange & White ticked female of excellent breed type presented in super coat & condition. She has a lovely head and tight rimmed eyes, correct length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders giving a good length and lay of the upper arm, correct feet & pasterns with strong straight bones. She is so square & cobby with an excellent spring of rib & a strong wide loin. Sound coming and going with excellent hindquarters & turn of stifle. In movement she maintains a level topline with very good reach & drive. Another I’m sure with a bright future.

Graduate Dog or Bitch [5 2]

1 Whitehead Ryallcourt Step in Time. Well my first thoughts when he entered the ring was wow! My star of the day this 14 month Black white & tan male just filled my eyes, he has a lovely head with the most melting expression & tight rimmed eyes, his excellent reach of neck flow into well placed shoulders with a correct length and return of the upper arm give a super front assembly. He stands on tight feet with thick pads, excellent bone & substance, his short back with well sprung ribs for one so young gives a very square cobby outline. He has excellent hindquarters and a very good turn of stifle with strong neat hocks. Sound coming & going. In movement he presented a beautiful picture maintaining his lovely topline and free front reach in all phases with a rock solid topline. It was a pleasure to go over him and Award him BEST IN SHOW. I’ll continue to watch him throughout what should be a bright future.

2 Stokes -Harrell Claramand One Vision Between Chezza 2 year old Orange female of very good breed type, she has a nice head & expression with tight rimmed eyes, nice length of neck and placed on good shoulders with a good front assembly, she stands on good feet & legs with straight columns. She’s very short & square portraying a very cobby outlook and has well sprung ribs & a short wide loin. Level topline and very good hindquarters with a good turn of stifle, sound coming and going maintaining a correct level topline in moment.

Post Graduate Dog or Bitch [4 2]

1 Roberts & Smith Rayol Gift Of The Gab 3 year old Blue female presented in lovely coat & condition of very good breed type, nice head and expression with dark eyes and an excellent reach of neck flowing into correct shoulder placement with correct front assembly. Stands on correct feet with straight columns, square and cobby with a correct level topline and well sprung ribs. Sound coming and going and maintains her topline in movement.

2 Kitchen Annilan Bhama Mama 3 year old blue male of good breed type presented in Lovley coat & condition, he has a good head and dark eyes, good reach of neck sitting on correct shoulders with a correct front assembly. Tight cat like feed and strong bones with correct pasterns. He has a level topline with short wide loin, very good hind quarters & turn of stifle. Sound coming & going and maintains a correct topline in movement.

Veteran Dog or Bitch [3 2]

1 Hill Olibond Sunshine Girl At Princehill 9 year old orange roan female, presented in excellent order for her age, she has a good head & tight eye with a good reach of neck sitting on good shoulders with correct front assembly. Correct feet and stands on strong columns. For her age she has maintained a very level topline with strong wide loin. Sound coming and going and moves correctly with free front reach. Congratulations to the owner for presenting this old lady so well. BEST VETERAN IN SHOW.

Before I continue, this was the class of the day 4 beautiful cockers who gave me a real job to sort out and place.

2 Buck Clavaire Marrakech Sky 13 month Orange & White ticked male of excellent breed type, presented in excellent coat & condition and like the winner he has the wow factor! He has an excellent head & expression with tight rimmed eyes, an excellent reach of neck which flows into well placed shoulders with a long well angled upper arm. He has excellent height to length proportions being very square & cobby, with a straight level topline & excellent spring of rib and a short wide loin. He has super hindquarters and a good turn of stifle with short strong hocks. In movement he presents a very pleasing picture and maintains his square outline at all speeds. Like the winner I’m sure he has a very bright future, I was told at the end they were both half-brothers which I found very satisfying. I had no hesitation in calling him back in to award him RESERVE BEST IN SHOW.

3rd Morris Riondel Solitaire 2 year old Blue Roan female of super breed type, presented in excellent coat and condition, and evidently well exercised demonstrating an athletic and robust condition. She has a lovely head & expression with a dark eye, and good reach of neck which sit on correct shoulders with a long well angled upper arm. She stands on straight legs with cat like feet. She has a very square cobby body and a straight level topline and a short wide loin. Her excellent hindquarters & turn of stifle and short strong hocks allow her to move with good reach and drive maintaining a rock solid topline in movement. I had no hesitation in calling her back in to the challenge and award her BEST FEMALE & therefore BEST OPPOSITE SEX.

Before finishing the class I have to mention my 4th placed dog Rayol Look Hus Talkin who on another day could have been higher, it was such a strong class but I had to judge them on the day which I tried to do to the best of my ability.

She stands on good feet with straight columns, short back & a strong wide loin, with correct hindquarters and a good turn of stifle. She is sound coming & going and maintains a level topline in movement.

Open Dog or Bitch [4 2]

1 Roberts & Smith Claramand Ziggeta At Rayol 5½ year old Blue Roan female of excellent breed type, presented in good coat & condition, she has a good head & dark eye, she has a good reach of neck and correct sloping shoulders and a long well angled upper arm. She stands on good feet & pasterns with strong bones. Her topline is firm & straight with a good spring of Rib & short firm loin. Sound coming & going with correct hindquarters & short hocks, in movement she held her firm topline at all speeds.

2 Hutton-Barber Esqueen Following Star at Babtonkelpie [imp Pol] JW 3 year old dark Blue female of very good type, presented in lovely coat & condition, She has a nice head & dark eyes, with a good reach of neck & shoulders, the upper arm is of good length but could be better angled, with a good development of the fore chest & a deep brisket. She stands on correct feet & strong straight columns. The middle piece could be stronger but she has well sprung ribs & the loin is wide & strong. Sound coming & going with short strong hocks, she moves very positively but would like the topline to be firmer.
