AV VD (2,1)
1 Crosscop Somebody to Love. Whippet. This chap was presented in first class order and lovely to go over, being in perfect body and condition with fine coat and skin. Well made all through. Good head and dark expressive eye, and moved with drive from his low hocks.
AV VB (8,4)
1 Lorbri Mistletoe Magic. Shapely whippet. Lovely size and balance all through. Sweet headed with lovely expression. Strong in neck and topline. Uses balance of forehand and hindquarter angles very well on the move to produce a neat even stride. 2 Seatonvalley Daisy’s Angel at Flaxside. Nicely made Deerhound with lots to like. In good coat and muscle. Has length of head and strength in jaw. Moved well when going away. 3 Caldewriver Legally Blonde of Ballencrieff.
Beagle
P (3,1) 1 The Little Apple of Your Eye. Nicely headed young b of overall good proportions. Soundly made in front with good depth, and complimentary angles at the rear. Well muscled but carrying a bit too much timber today. Moved out well.
PG (1) 1 Janfrey Valentino. Quite a large frame on this well grown d. Masculine headed with large ears and dark eyes. Presented a good clean outline on the table and moved out well enough when settled. Handler needs to get to grips with him. Super feet.
O (3,1) 1 Newlin Rambler. A very good mover which took him all the way to BoB. Presented in good order and spot on condition with plenty of body and good muscle. Well shaped head and dark expressive eyes. Has strong bone and soundly made limbs, and stands on excellent feet. Well ribbed back and correctly set on tail. Low hocks produced a strong driving action on the move.
Deerhound
P (1) 1 Lowland Fauns Ianthe at Flaxside. Very pretty 7m old b with feminine outline. Gorgeous head shape with length, and well set and shaped dark eyes. Coming along nicely in front and ribbing, maturity will only enhance the picture. Well made quarters and good width of thigh. Moved out with fluid action. BP
J (3,1) Two raw teenagers in this class, but each having breed positive attributes. They both ened to settle into their job and develop in body, and their handlers need to gain some experience to work better with them. 1 Chuilinn Tournaline. Sweet feminine head, just edged ahead in this class for a little more development in brisket and ribbing at this stage of her growth. 2 Kilbourne Aoife. Touch longer than 1, but not quite so together in front action at present. Very good behind, and another lovely head.
PG (11,2) This was a bit of a mixed class in terms of ages and stages of growth and development, but most present put on a good show. Some handlers just need to gain a little more confidence in themselves when in the ring to show their charges to best advantage. 1 Humbiehounds Jazz It Up. This rising two year old moved very soundly and with such elegance she had to be the winner in this class. Well shaped skull with length and strength. Scores in neck and topline, with well developed loin muscle and good width in quarters. RBoB. 2 Gentiehun Iso Harmaa Koira at Humbiehounds. Well off for development of brisket and length and depth to rib, this shapely b also had a lovely head. A good sound mover and presented in good order with well developed muscles. 3 Flaxside Against All Odds.
O (6,2) 1 Orge Et Malt D’Escalgrain. Beautiful head shape on this fully mature b whose outline really appealed. Lovely feminine head but with strength and useful length of jaw. Has length and strength of neck from well laid shoulders. Well ribbed back, strong and firm in couplings. Stands on good feet and has quality straight bone. Her fitness showed in her easy long striding action on the move. BoB. 2 Dorrator Orbit. Upstanding male of grand outline and stature. Mascluine head with dark clean eyes. Has strength of neck and topline and excellent width behind. Super legs and feet produced an easy ground covering action on the move. 3 Dorrator Eno.
Irish Wolfhound
P (4,1) 1 Strathmithie Over Condor. 2 Strathmithie Ghillie Pot at Achnagonlan. It was a close decision in this class, as I really liked this first duo, so I wasn’t surprised to later learn they are brother and sister. They are a credit to their breeders/owners. Both are very sound movers, with super bone and excellent feet. Each have well made frames, but understandable rawness at their tender age. 1 just edged ahead as she is a little more together in front action at present, however I’m sure they will both go on to do very well. 3 Bonafortes Beautiful Dawn at Bonnachnaomh.
J (1) 1 Bonafortes Beautiful Dawn at Bonnachnaomh. Decent head on this youngster, with length and strength and power in jaw. Has good angulation in fore and hindquarters, but at the moment just a tad long and rangy in her stage of growth and not quite so together away and back as the others in the earlier class. Needs time, but has potential. Presented in fit order.
PG (3) 1 Barrassy Spitfire. Super moving two year old male with such fluidity and soundness of action. Grand headed, strong in neck and topline, with great ribbing. Really uses his well laid shoulder to advantage on the move. Lots to like! RBoB. 2 Malinkey’s Acacia. A very feminine outline and frame on this b. Stands on very good feet and pasterns and has a great coat. Firm topline. Moved well.
O (4,1) 1 Whitglen The Real Thing. Super upstanding d of great type and lots of quality. Grand masculine head with super length and strength. Dak expressive eyes giving an almost thoughtful outlook. His beautifully laid shoulders allow for a long arched neck, and flow into a strong level back of good length. Deep in brisket and well ribbed has has strength in loin. Well turned stifles with excellent development of first and second thigh, which he uses to great advantage on the move. Goes away and back with good accuracy of footfall, and covers the ground with such ease on the go around. BoB & BIS in very good company. 2 Malinkey’s Angelica. What a lovely sound young lady of honest make and shape. Pleasing in head with well set and shaped eyes and ears. Strong in topline and has good front and rear angles giving great static and kinetic balance. 3 Balnuith End of The Storm at Achnagonlan.
Norwegian Elkhound
O (1) 1 Afton lee Affleck. Lovely wedge shaped head on this male who stands up well over his ground. Has good bone and strong limbs, standing on excellent feet. Strong in topline with well curled high set tail. An excellent mover with steady stride and accurate footfall. BoB.
Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit)
PG (2,1) 1 Ballencrieff Figgy Pudding. Feminine in outline and overall shape with good body and well toned muscled. Excellent topline and well set tail. In good coat. Moved out with drive from low hocks and has an appealing temperament.
O (1) 1 Caldewriver Legally Blonde of Ballencrieff. 3rd in a good vb class earlier, this b has a superb side gait and maintains her lovely outline at all times both stacked and when moving. Plenty of strength in head with useful length of foreface. Has firmness of topline and well set tail. Very well handled. BoB.
Rhodesian Ridgeback
J (2,1) 1 Amahle Funny Cide. Good head on this young b who is maturing nicely all through and has balane of angles fore and aft. In very fit condition and standing on great feet. Moves out with good drive from the rear quarters, but just needs time to come together and tighten up in front.
PG (2,1) 1 Jimans Hud Yer Wheesht. Lovely headed with balance of skull and muzzle proportions and a dark eye, with well set and shaped ears. Strong neck and topline. Presented in great coat and skin and with firm musculature. Didn’t move quite as I would have expected as needs to settle into her stride a little.
O (4,1) Close decisions in this class as all three have appealing breed attributes. 1 Asharaa Stars In Your Eyes at Gileeja. This lovely b is just super going around and eats up the ground so had to win the class and ultimately BoB today. She is shapely all through with a correct outline and nothing to excess. Clean dry neck firm topline and well ribbed back. Strong in quarters which she uses to advantage. Free stacks to show off her virtues very well. Delight to judge. 2 Asharaa Dark Side of the Moon at Gileeja. Very close up to 1 indeed, and perhaps just a little better in head, however she was a tad distracted at times on the move which was the only thing that separated these two lovely bitches today. 3 Jimanns Long Time Comin.
Borzoi
O (3,1) 1 Scotach High and Mighty. Very refined and elegant in outlook and presented in first class order with gleaming immaculate coat. Cannot be overlooked as he has a very look at me attitude. Lovely straight mover both away and back, and development of muscle in the hindquarter is particularly evident giving a strong driving action from the rear. 2 Scotach Need For Speed. Another elegant example with femininity all through in this b. Also in great coat and muscle which is a credit to their breeder/owners. Just felt this b fell away just a little too much in the topline compared to the dog today.
Dachshund (Long-Haired)
O (1) 1 Bronia Red Velvet. Has good balance of skull and muzzle properties with strength in jaw and foreface. Dark eye and well set ears. Lovely level topline with correctly set tail. Uses his well laid shoulder and good rear angles to really good advantage on the move producing a strong purposeful gait.
Dachshund (Smooth-haired)
PG (1) 1 Clentry Mango Passion. Smashing b from all angles and really appealed all through. Lovely type with balance and enough substance, but femininity and good length of leg and strength in topline. Excellent hindquarters with strong straight hocks. Clean dark eye and good length of ear. Moved out very well to take BoB.
O (4,2) 1 Clentry Mickey Mania. Lovely head balance and feminine in expression. Good development of brisket and well laid shoulder with great angle and length of upper arm. A little lower to the ground and carrying a bit more weight than the PG winner which was the deciding factor when it came to BoB today. 2 Lauralee Lannister at Cotherstone. Lovely skin and coat on this six year old. Could do with a little more development in jaw and firmness in hindquarters. Stands well over his front. Lovely eye shape and colour.
Dachshund (wire-haired)
O (1) 1 Dollydash Never Enough. Very decent soundly made honest sort with well shaped and furnished headpiece. Clean in neck and has well laid shoulder with strong topline and long ribcage. Very well muscled. Doesn’t disappoint on the move as he goes around with drive and ground covering straight action.
Dachshund (mini long-haired)
P (1) 1 Daniello Jalka Jollynda. Pretty young b with elegance and feminine outlook. At a rather raw stage at the moment and has plenty of time to grow on and develop, but all the basics are there and time will improve the whole picture. Great to go over on the table and displays confidence on the move.
PG (2) 1 Code Red Again at Arlatdax. Two year old d who is mature and looking a picture. Grand head with length and strength in muzzle. Good strong topline and well ribbed back. When he settled to the task he moved out very well for his skilled handler. BoB. 2 Deniella A Perla Di Luna. Not quite the strength of head but a nice balanced shape. In great coat and skin and well conditioned in body. Moved out well enough.
O (1) 1 Daniella Tiny Troublemaker. Very feminine all through, and needs to gain some confidence. In fit condition and standing on good feet. Balance in angulation fore and aft but not putting on the best show today as she seemed a little overawed by proceedings.
Bavarian Mountain Hound
O (1) 1 Donard Dream for Arlatdax. Decent make and shape all through with correct outline and length to height ratio. Well shaped head of balance, and with well set and shaped eyes and ears. Strong neck and characteristic rising topline. In excellent muscle with good skin and coat. Moved around the ring with good drive from behind. BoB.
AV NSC Hound
P (1) 1 Woodella Bits and Pieces at Gooses. Basenji of good type and correct clean outline with balance of body proportions and leg length. Clean well shaped head and dark eyes. Well set and shaped ears. Excellent topline. Has an endearingly naughty and cheeky character which appealed! Showed well and moved with drive. BNSC & BPNSC.
O (1 ) 1 Inchydony Memories Talisman at Hallimans. Lovely head with clean dry neck. Beautiful dark well set eye and keen expression. Lovely shapely outline when stood up, showing excellent muscular definition, well arched neck, with good length of back. Has strong wide loins and great width to thigh. In great coat and skin. Didn’t want to give it his all today on the move, which was such a shame as I’m sure he can perform better than he did today. One to watch for the future as he learns and appreciates his job.
Best In Show
What a lovely bunch of hounds awaited me for Best In Show. All with great temperaments and in super condition, they were all a credit to their owners. We had the added advantage of being able to be judged outside on the grass all day, which I am sure all of the dogs appreciated.
After moving all of the dogs again in a quick re-assessment of those dogs I had judged, and assessing the whippet, I decided that Best in Show had to be the Irish Wolfhound, Whitglen The Real Thing, as he just kept on performing and never put a foot wrong. There is nothing more impressive than the stature of this breed, and this young stallion of a dog was not going to be overlooked today.
Into the reserve spot, and close up, was the smashing Rhodesian Ridgeback Asharaa Stars In Your Eyes at Gileeja who really pushed the winner all the way but had to be content with a well deserved RBIS today. The third spot was taken by the captivating elegance of the Deerhound, Orge Et Malt D’Escalgrain, whose quality and elegance combined with strength and power could not be denied in this company. The fourth place was claimed by the curvy shapely whippet, Coolooney You Are the Reason, who appealed in all respects. Good for size and lovely to handle, everything flows together in her elegant frame. A great mover with soundness all through, she had great development of first and second thighs which aided her powerful movement around the ring.
Best Puppy In Show
The BPIS line up today definitely featured some starts of the future and I’m sure we will see many of them doing extremely well in their breeds in the future.
The top award went to the exciting whippet, Railfield Rainstorm, who presented an eye catching outline on first inspection. On going over there is little to disappoint; great for size not being overly large, and with a well shaped head with dark eye and mischievous expression! Strong neck with well laid shoulder, he had strength in topline and length of rib with tucked up underline and ribs which are already well sprung. Excellent in rear with well developed thighs. Stands on excellent feet. Handler works quietly and unobtrusively with him to get the very best out of his charge. A great prospect.
The exciting Basenji, Woodella Bits and Pieces at Gooses, claimed a very respectable RBPIS to the exciting whippet and I’m sure this young lady will go on to great things. She never put a foot wrong in her movement, and has great attitude and style to take her all the way.
The third and fourth spots were closely contended by two longer legged hounds, with the cracking Deerhound coming up as third place, Lowland Fauns Ianthe at Flaxside, just edging ahead of the very lovely Irish Wolfhound Strathmithie Over Condor.
