Gordon Setter

What a strong entry of quality Gordon Setters.

P (4, 1): 1 A super class – all three from the same litter. BP & PG1 Sandiford’s Hernwood Rocket Man, 8 months, the stand out, as he is, at present, the most together & balanced both standing & moving. Appeals in outline with super topline & corresponding angles fore & aft. Lovely to go over & superbly presented. Quality; 2 Sandiford’s Hernwood Eternal Flame, litter sister & a little bum high at present so not as together. Pretty head with intelligent expression, tight oval feet, good bone but still retains femininity. More together on the move than 3 Sandiford’s Hernwood Relight My Fire.

SP (2, 1a): 1 Horler’s Colourbox Wild Wild West with Rackens, coming up two years, all male, good strength of bone, clean neck into well laid shoulders, brisket down to elbow, good turn of stifle & muscled second thighs. Well presented.

L (2): 1 RBOB Sandiford’s Hernwood Love Potion, won the class on her free flowing movement - effortless. Strong but feminine, pretty head with open nostrils, excellent outline, stacks up lovely & corresponding angles fore & aft. Lovely to go over too – in good body & coat condition. Well presented; 2 McCarthy’s Hernwood Wizard Of Oz JW, looks super stacked up, lovely kind & intelligent eye, correct length of neck into well laid shoulders, taut through the loin. Just not the verve of 1 on the move & would prefer him a little cleaner in throat.

O (3): 1 BOB Sandiford & Lewis’ Hernwood Gin Fizz JW, stand out winner, lovely quality – appeals standing & moving, clean neck into well laid shoulders, good angulation fore & aft, lovely to go over, good ribbing, clean & flowing. As her anatomy suggests, she moved super too; 2 Sandiford & Mazzeo’s Hernwood Christmas Prince, upstanding male – smart looking, lovely open nostrils, good forehand assembly, strong over the topline, correct turn of stifle. Preferred his movement & strength of rear pasterns over 3 McCarthy’s Hernwood Boston High Flyer.

Retriever (Chesapeake Bay)

P (1): 1 BP & RBOB Watts’ Oakmarsh Little Acorn, brown bitch of 7 months raw baby, brisket down to elbow with elbows tight to the chest wall, good ribbing, taut through the loin, correct bend of stifle, rear pasterns vertical to the ground, moved co-ordinately.

SY (1): 1 O Little Acorn.

L (2): 1 BOB Royle’s Battsrock Are You Ready, mature 3 year old male, really lovely when standing naturally in outline. Robust & strong looking, brisket down to elbow, tight well-rounded feet, good ribbing, in lovely body & coat condition. He moved well. His tail carriage is not the best but judging him as a whole, he couldn’t be denied; 2 Watts’ Oakleaf Manor Bay of Oakmarsh JW, sedge, pretty head, good spring of rib, well-muscled, well angulated quarters, moved co-ordinately. Preferred body proportions of 1.

O (1): Watts’ Oakmarsh Freedom JW SGWC, brown bitch of 5 years, brisket down to elbow, excellent spring of rib, good angulation, strong through the rear pasterns. In good muscled condition but not in her party dress today.

Field Spaniel

SY (4, 1a): 1 BOB Willcock’s Ustorpabyns Fields First Time to Dynarkaraky (Imp), really close decision, liver boy, good bone for size, appeals standing & moving. Clean neck into well laid shoulders, nice to go over & presented to advantage. I would have preferred more refined detail to give more notability to his head but judging him as a whole he has good balance & won the class on movement; 2 RBOB Trevor’s Trevorsilk Blue Velvet, thought her lovely but she wasn’t always giving her best in class, which to be fair, I wouldn’t want to do when it’s very hot! Very pretty head with prominent occiput & open nostrils, super outline standing, clean lines, very smart. She moved much better in the challenge for RBOB, had she done that in class, things may have been different; 3 Trevorsilk Brandy Zinger.

L (2): 1 Elliott’s Elgert Break Every Rule at Portsoy, easy winner, blue roan male, very well made, sound to go over & balanced, good strong topline, well muscled quarters; 2 Willock’s Dynarkaraky Apatura Iris, liver & tan, just out of Puppy, raw in body & needs time to fill his frame. Whilst I preferred his head to 1, I found him to be over long in second thigh which gave him excessive angulation. Needs time.

O (1): 1 Willock’s Slo, Ned, Bel & Int Ch Dynarkaraky Deuces Are Wild, stacks up lovely with a super level topline, clean neck into well laid shoulders, good rear angulation. In good body & coat condition. Preferred the front assembly & rear movement of her son for BOB.

Dobermann

SY (4, 1a): 1 RBOB Pollard’s Shalissa’s Hot Toddy at Whizzbean, elegant bitch well on her toes, good shaped head, in lovely muscled condition all through, well balanced & lovely overall proportions, brisket down to elbow, elbows tight to the chest wall, really smart & well handled; 2 White & Hunt’s Virsco Velocity, lovely feet & front assembly, strong over the topline, good rear angles. Carrying a little excess weight over the ribs today; 3 Wall’s Khaneve Luvly Jubly for Jarjarjinx.

L (2, 1a): 1 Lawrence’s Rantowish The Silver Bullet, rangy boy, showed well by handler, nice front assembly, strong through the rear pasterns – vertical to the ground. Would prefer a cleaner neck into shoulder transition.

O (2): 1 BOB Tant’s Rafthouse Bundlebrent at Granadeya JW, lovely girl, pretty head, well balanced all over, good bone for size, looks strong but feminine, stands with good posture naturally - nothing turns neither in nor out. Very smart, well handled & moved well too; 2 Webb & Mullins’ BIH Ch Protocol’s The Midas Touch (Imp) JW, upstanding boy of 18 months, well put together, good rear angulation, hocks vertical to the ground. Not the enthusiasm of 1 on the move.

AV Post Graduate Stakes

(27): 1 Crocker & Lewis’ Riverbrue Ophelia Winky JW, Irish Setter, stand out winner from the moment he came in & then confirmed when I went over him. Super quality, lovely bone for size, everything flows, clean neck into well laid shoulders, good ribbing, correct rear angles, stylishly presented in lovely body & coat condition. Quality; 2 Bryant’s Middletune Billy The Kid, Shih Tzu, lovely to go over, never flagged once in the midday sun, strong level topline & well muscled thighs, moved well - flowed; 3 Seager’s Blamorder Magic Maker with Freejack JW, Smooth Collie.
