Herts & Essex Border Canine Society

My first time judging in this area of the world and what a lovely welcome from show organisers, exhibitors and stewards. Thank you for your support.

English Setter

P (5): 1 BP Skeggs-Gooch’s Nellasett Velvet Brown, blue belton & tan bitch, quite together at 11 months & moved the best in the class. Good bone for size, feminine, level topline & sound to go over. Preferred her length of rib over 2 White’s Droveborough Silver Pearl for Paduan, blue belton stacked up very well by her handler. Pretty head, level topline, good rear angulation. Needs to strengthen through the front pasterns which will come in time; 3 Parrish’s Tawnymeade Tacazze Sunbird.

J (3): 1 Arkley’s Tattersett Blue Lord, elegant & handsome, beautifully turned out in good coat & condition. Good drive in side profile - going around the ring, correct turn of stifle with good muscletone & hocks vertical to the ground; 2 N Velvet Brown; 3 T Tacazze Sunbird.

L (5, 1a): 1 Ridsdill’s Sharnyx Here’s Bonnie, blue belton, pretty head with correct depth of flew, appeals in outline with good topline & balanced angulation fore & aft. Won the class on movement & was stronger through her rear action than 2 Beasley’s Wansleydale Mayflower at Latjeata, a nice blue belton bitch, elegant & she has a lovely smooth neck into shoulder transition, level topline & correct turn of stifle. Preferred rear pasterns of 1 on the move; 3 Cook’s Pernickety Quartz.

O (7, 1a): 1 BOB Cook’s Pernickety Quiddity, orange belton who was really full of it today, interested in the girls & really made his handler work for it but thought he was a smart boy. Stands on lovely tight feet which held their shape even on an equestrian ground. Masculine & elegant in appearance – nothing exaggerated. Handsome head, brisket down to elbow with elbows close to the chest wall, balanced rear angles fore & aft, moved really well – easy & free & with drive & correct tail action; 2 RBOB Beasley’s Wansleydale Amaretto at Latjeata, tricolour bitch, tight feet, good head properties, holds a good topline standing & moving. Preferred the movement of 1; 3 King’s Dobbies Delight at Grantastar.

Irish Setter

P (2): Two litter sisters 1 BP White’s Paduan Feel The Love, the more together of the two at this stage, nice shape when she relaxes into her stack with good rear angulation. A little erratic on the move but will come in time; 2 Adams’ Paduan Ready For Love at Danbryeli, rangier at this stage of development & narrower all through currently. Clean neck into shoulders, good rear angles, needs time to fill her frame. I preferred her head to 1.

J (2,1a): 1 RBOB Poplawska’s Shelindair Sing To A Rainbow, nice bone for size, pretty head, correct rear angles, moved co-ordinately. Rather hard to assess due to a tail injury.

O (1): 1 BOB Adams’ Harreds Sophie at Danbryeli, mature bitch of 5 years, nice to go over & stacks up well. Good strength through the forearms and strength through the rear pasterns with hocks vertical to the ground. Moved well.

Spaniel (English Springer)

J (4, 2a): 1 Gledhill’s Dexbenella Dream Of Dreams, l/w bitch full of energy, stacks up well & presents a lovely outline, clean neck into well laid shoulders, strong topline & taut through the loin. Preferred her movement to 2 Harris’ Melverly Betsy Trottwood with Coastalglows, l/w stacks up well & has a lovely shine & quality to the coat. Very well presented, lovely tidy feet. Felt a little heavy over the ribs today.

L (3): 1 BOB Gledghill’s Greg De Les Tres Llacunes (Imp), l/w dog presents a lovely picture standing in outline, good bone for size, in lovely condition with good muscletone & strong through the loin, stands on tidy feet & moved well with his runner; 2 Harris’ Melverly Amy Dorrit with Coastalglows, b/w in lovely condition & very well presented, also stacks up lovely, good turn of stifle. Preferred movement of 1; 3 Proctor’s Petranella Perfick Bliss.

O (2, 1a): 1 RBOB Keely’s Khaleesi De Les Tres Llacunes with Alhambian (Imp), l/w bitch of 20 months, nice outline with strength over the topline, pretty head, good feet & correct turn of stifle. Just needs to steady on the move & go at a slower pace.

Spaniel (Welsh Springer)

P (2): 1 BP & BOB Wallington’s Ferndel Renzo at Rovinjdal, appeals in head, clean neck, correct topline & turn of stifle. The more co-operative of the two today & moved with the most co-ordination; 2 RBOB Doyle’s Helgen Hurricane Dorian, a cute whirlwind of a girl, really on her toes & playful which was lovely to see but made it hard for me to assess her. She has a lovey shape however, & sometimes had four feet on the ground! Endearing, thought she was a sweetie.

Spanish Water Dog

J (1): 1 RBOB Searles’ Rommy De Ubbadat (Imp), naughty but nice 12 months brown bitch just out of Puppy. Really super front assembly, elbows tight to chest wall with correct return of upperarm. Lovely to go over. Good body proportions being slightly longer than tall. Must have a bright future.

L (1): 1 Searles’ Adormidera Apache Rose at Cravessa, brown bitch with white markings, correct texture to coat, nice to go over & robust in appearance. Strong through the neck, correct rear angulation. Not the sparkle of her kennel mate in Junior.

O (1): 1 BOB Searles’ Cravessa’s Bottoms Up JW, brown with white markings, very well presented by his talented handler, correct body properties, strong topline, good texture to coat. Moved co-ordinately. Certainly fits the general appearance description being robust, medium sized, well muscled with a distinctive coat.
