Whippet Club of Scotland Limited Show 9th November 2024
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at your show and thanks to the exhibitors for your entries. A big thank you also to my steward. I was really pleased with my final lineup.
Puppy Dog (3, 1 abs)
Murton’s Cyangrange Carpe Diem. 6 month old brindle do. An attractive puppy who is still very raw and which is very much correct at this age. Handsome head with slight stop, alert expression and neat ears. Good neck into shoulders, with moderate front angulation. Well knuckled feet. Top and underline still need to develop, but this should come with age. Strong hind quarters which he used well on the move. Moved very well in all directions, especially for his age. Reserve Best Puppy in Show.
Lindsay’s Celticmoon Shadow Spell. 9 month old brindle. Raw youngster of an excellent size. Kind expression, good ears, and a long arched neck. Balanced angulation front and rear. Would prefer a little more return of upper arm. Good top and underline for age. Moved well.
Junior Dog (1, 0 abs)
Brooks’ Collooney For Your Eyes Only JW. 15 month old brindle. Excellent for size and substance. Handsome head with a gentle expression and rose-shaped ears. Correct, balanced and moderate front and rear angulation. Correct bladed bone, and well-knuckled feet. Moved very soundly in all directions but tended sometimes to flatten his topline a touch. Appeared a little unsettled in this class, but in the special class later in the day I felt he had warmed up and therefore held his shape better.
Maiden Dog (3, 0 abs)
Lindsay’s Celticmoon Shadow Spell. 2nd in Puppy dog.
Blenkarn’s Crosscop Happy Valley of Hareghyll. 9 month old fawn and white particolour. Upstanding dog who is shown in lovely coat and condition. A sweet boy with a kind expression. I would prefer to see a little more return of upper arm. He has a lovely overall shape with the correct rise over his loin and good tuck up. Correct moderate hind quarters. Moved out well in profile.
Novice Dog (4, 1 abs)
Beattie-Nash’s Railfield Rainstorm. 12 month old brindle. A quality dog who won here based on having the best overall outline, with curves in all the right places. Long arched neck leading into excellent well laid back shoulder and good return of upper arm, with slight spring of pastern. Deep chest with plenty of heart room. Excellent tuck-up. Strong hind quarters. Moved well in all directions. Well handled. Best Dog and Reserve Best in Show.
Lindsay’s Celticmoon Shadow Spell. 2nd in Puppy dog.
Graduate Dog (5, 0 abs)
Beattie-Nash’s Railfield Rainstorm. 1st in Novice Dog.
Downing-Christie & Christie’s Mossbawnhill Chasing It All for Zigouse. 18 month old fawn. Appeared a little unsettled today. Handsome head with a lovely expression. Excellent for size and presents a curvy outline. I feel he still has some maturing to do. Correct bladed bone and well-knuckled feet. Balanced and moderate angulation front and rear. Moved out very well in profile.
Limit Dog (5, 2 abs)
Burton’s Ballenbreich Harris JW. 19 month old brindle of the correct size. Good head and expression, and with neat ears. Long arched neck, leading into smooth shoulders. Would prefer a touch more return of upper arm. Good depth of brisket and fill in front. Good tuck up, and topline with a slight rise over the loin. Well developed hind quarters which he used well on the move. Moved well in all directions.
Salmond & Inglis’ Sacagawea Jues Maxamillion. 5 year old brindle built on a slightly larger frame. Pleasing head with a kind expression, would prefer a stronger underjaw. I liked his overall shape with an excellent topline and matching underline, however he tends to drop off a little steeply over the croup. Well-developed first and second thigh. Moved soundly.
Open Dog (7, 2 abs)
Seattle & Rawlinson’s Reffton Tibalt at Whipsearle JW (IMP ESP). 2 year old fawn who is spot on for size. He has a very handsome, masculine head with rose-shaped ears and a strong underjaw. His angulation is moderate, and balanced front and rear. Correct bladed bone, and well-knuckled feet. Deep chest with plenty of heart room and good fill in front. Presents a lovely overall outline with that desired S shape. Strong hind quarters which he used to advantage on the move. Moved very well in all directions. Like several other dogs today, I thought he went even better in the special class later on in the day when he had warmed up. Reserve Best Dog.
Burton’s Ballenbreich Harris JW. 1st in Limit Dog.
Veteran Dog (4, 2 abs)
Webb’s Crosscop Somebody To Love. 7 year old brindle dog who presents a lovely outline. He has a pleasing head with a kind and gentle expression. Strong neck, with correct shoulder placement and good return of upper arm. Excellent topline with a slight rise over the loin and a matching underline. Strong hind quarters with low hocks. He moved very soundly and held his topline at all times. Reserve Best Veteran in Show.
Searle’s Quick Silver He’s The One for Whipsearle VW. 10 year old fawn and white particolour who is excellent for size. His head is long and lean and with a slight stop, a very gentle expression. He has a strong neck and is a nice shape with good top and underline. I would prefer a little more angulation in front. He held his topline well on the move.
Puppy Bitch (3, 0 abs)
Brough’s Crosscop Fantasy at Limubox. 6 month old brindle. Super feminine and elegant, with a very pretty head. Good for size and breed type. Strong arched neck leading into smooth shoulders. Good bone, with slight spring of pastern and well-knuckled feet. Good top and underline for her age. She is in great condition, and moved very well for one so young, which won her this class and Best Puppy in Show. Well handled.
Uytman’s Cornstalk Bright Moon. 10 month old fawn who is built slightly stronger than 1. She is very smooth to go over and flows underhand. Moderate angulation front and rear. Good fill in front. Topline and underline matching. Good width of thigh. Moved well in all directions. Lots to like.
Junior Bitch (1, 0 abs)
Third’s Knowemain Super Blackbird. 14 month old black. Nothing exaggerated about her, very balanced and excellent for size. Kind expression, would prefer a stronger underjaw. Moderate angulation front and rear. Enough depth of chest. Very curvy topline and excellent tuck up. Well muscled hind quarters which she used well on the move. Moved soundly and held her topline. In great condition and with a gleaming coat.

Lindsay’s Celticmoon Shadow Mystic. 9 month old brindle who very much enjoyed her day out. Another one who is excellent for size and very feminine. Loved her cheeky personality. Novice Bitch (4, 0 abs)
Third’s Knowemain Super Blackbird. 1st in Junior Bitch.
Murton’s Pursenet New Look. 2 year old brindle. Pretty bitch with an attractive head and kind expression. Strong neck, with a moderately angulated front. Correct bladed bone and well-knuckled feet. Would prefer slightly more spring of pastern. Enough depth of chest and good fill in front. Shapely top and underline. Moved well, just preferred the more moderate hind angulation of 1.

Good depth of chest, with plenty of heart room and good fill in front. Good top and underline. Well muscled hind quarters with good width of second thigh. Moved very well in all directions. Brace (4, 0 abs)
This was a fun class to judge with some of the dogs very much enjoying being in the ring together, and giving their handler quite a challenging task.
Miss K L & Mr L Robertson & McVey. A well matched pair, presented a consistent type and quality both standing and moving. Put in an excellent performance and went so well for their handler. Well deserved win.
Ms E E MacBeth. Another pair who went very well together, both standing and moving. Unlucky to meet 1.
