CAVALIER CLUB SPECIAL AWARDS CLASSES
Many thanks to The Cavalier Club for putting on these classes and the exhibitors for supporting them well. I had some lovely examples of the breed to judge and was honoured to be asked to judge such a fabulous entry. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable appointment.
SAC Puppy (4, 1abs)
1st Mynott’s Honeybet Hamilton - Delightful little blenheim dog puppy who scored highly on his size, balance and breed type. Undeniably a toy spaniel. The most appealing expression, masculine yet sweet and head well developed for age. Relatively flat between ears, stop not too deep, muzzle of correct length and tapering. Well pigmented nose, tidy lip. Beautiful large, dark expressive eyes, round in shape and spaced well in his handsome face. High set ears framing his face well with feathering coming in nicely. Tidy bite. Neck of correct length, arched and flowing seamlessly into a sound front assembly. Well laid shoulders, forelegs straight with quality bone. Solid little body, well developed for age, ribs well sprung and carried well back, short loin, level topline which he held at all times. Hindquarters sound with well bent stifles, low set parallel hocks. Tail set and carriage correct. Silky coat presented well, gorgeous rich chestnut color with attractively placed white markings. Moved freely, presenting balanced reach and drive in profile, tidy front and back. Loved him. Will watch his progress with interest.
2nd Rhodes’ Calonlan Sweet Dream - Another nice, well broken blenheim bitch puppy of different type to 1st. Not as mature and looking very much the baby in this class but with lots of potential to develop and mature nicely. A lovely size, not too big presenting a nice outline. Feminine head and expression. Proportionate head, almost flat between ears, still to break and develop in head as expected at this age but currently presenting a good length of muzzle, slightly tapered, correct amount of stop. Nose black. Large, dark round eyes fitting her face well, set well apart and adding to her sweet expression. High set ears with some feathering coming in. Nice reach of neck into a good lay of shoulder, forelegs straight with good bone for her size. Well sprung ribs, level topline, short loin. Sound hindquarters with hind angles matching her fore. Correct tail set and carriage. Coat of silky texture, feathering just coming in. Moved soundly with animation, showing off typical cavalier attitude.
3rd Riis-White’s Tamyse Bear With Us at Cerneyleaze
SAC Graduate (13, 4abs)
1st Ireland’s Charnell Here Comes Summer - A lovely, young, well marked blenheim bitch who immediately took my eye in this large class. A striking outline, a picture of balance, ideal for size and shape, a lovely little toy spaniel so full of breed type. Quality headpiece, ultra-feminine expression. Skull flat between ears, slight stop, muzzle well padded, of good length and tapering to black nose. Good fill below her expressive eyes, tidy, well developed lip, fitting cleanly. Beautiful, large, dark round eyes well spaced apart. High set, long ears complete with plenty of feathering framing her pretty face well. Lovely reach of neck with slight crest flowing into a good shoulder placement, good depth of chest, forelegs straight and of quality bone. Compact body, not too long, ribs well sprung and carried well back, short muscular loin, level topline kept at all times. Well rounded rear with good bend to stifles and low set parallel hocks. Tail set and carriage correct, never stopped wagging showing off her affectionate, friendly temperament. Silky coat with good amount of featherings which was well presented. Came alive on the move, flowing freely round the ring with effortless reach and drive.
2nd Chadwick’s Juzandia Lady Bug - A nice, honest junior blenheim bitch of good size. Slightly finer throughout than 1st but this didn’t detract too much from her other positive qualities. Very pretty head in proportion to the rest of her. Relatively flat between ears, nice amount of stop, if being picky, I would like a shade more length to her muzzle, well developed, clean lips. Well pigmented nose. Large, dark, round, expressive eyes adding to her appealing expression. High set ears with enough feathering. Nice neck with slight arch into a sound front assembly, forelegs of moderate bone. Still to fill out in body which she has plenty time on her side for. Ribs carried well back, loin short and strong. Hindquarters strong and sound with angles matching that of her fore angles. Tail well set on, carried well when in action. Silky coat, well broken blenheim, featherings coming in well. Moved soundly with animation keeping a level topline and at one with her handler.
3rd Owen’s Hansowens Night Star
SAC Open (6, 1abs)
1st Ireland’s Charnell Songbird JW - Two lovely blenheim bitches whom no doubt could switch places. For me today 1st just had the edge on hind movement. A balanced bitch of good size and shape. Appealing head with feminine expression. Skull flat between ears, slight stop and muzzle of good length tapering to black nose. Well filled below eyes, a well developed tidy lip with neat finish. Lovely dark, round eyes adding to her pretty expression. Ears set high and well feathered. A well arched neck of good length fitting smoothly into a sound front assembly, well laid shoulders, straight forelegs of quality bone and good depth and breadth to chest. Well muscled body with well sprung ribs carried well back, short, strong loin, topline level. Hindquarters strong and sound with well turned stifles and parallel low set hocks propelling her on the move. Silky, well marked blenheim coat with good feathering presented well. Tail of correct set and carriage. Moved well from all angles with good reach and drive with tidy front and rear movement.
2nd Case’s Cobbets Pink Fizz at Ginjay - Another lovely blenheim bitch who pushed 1st all the way. Ever so slightly larger than 1st but ultimately still a toy spaniel and with plenty of appealing qualities. Quality headpiece of good proportions giving a pleasing, sweet, feminine expression. Flat skull, shallow stop and a good length and depth to muzzle, lips well developed and fitting tidily, well filled below eyes, nose black. Eyes dark and round of good size and set, ears high set and well feathered. Nicely arched neck of good length into a sound front assembly, nice depth of chest, forelegs straight and of correct bone for her size. Well muscled body of correct length, well sprung ribs carried well back, muscular, short loin, level topline kept at all times. Tidy tailset, well set on, tail not carried too high when in motion. Lovely silky coat with plenty of featherings, well presented. Presents a pleasing picture in profile movement with good reach and drive, just ever so slightly tighter behind than my ideal today.
