Thank you to the society for inviting me to judge. I had a lovely day and some quality exhibits to judge. Thanks must also go to my able stewards and the exhibitors for graciously accepting placings.

GRIFFON BRUXELLOIS

Puppy (3, 2abs)

1st Martin’s Cilleine Quadrille avec Carradine - 11 month old red rough bitch who is of good shape and size. Still to develop in chest as expected at this age, but well bodied and confident on the move. Pretty, feminine expression, skull rounded and of good breadth and width, well pigmented nose with wide open nostrils. Short, muzzle of good width, nice turn of chin. Beard and whiskers coming in well. Large, dark round eye with black eye-rims, well spaced apart giving typical expression. Neat, high set ears. Good amount of neck into a sound front assembly, shoulders well sloped, straight forelegs of good bone. Short backed, level topline, ribs well sprung and carried well back. Hindquarters strong and sound with correct angulation. Coat of good harsh texture. Moved well with confidence. BPIB

Junior (1, 1abs)

1st Suggitt’s Aptrick Dolly Mixtures JW - Sassy little 17 month old rough bitch. Nice size, balanced and square in outline. Feminine head of good proportions, nice rounding to skull, defined stop, muzzle short and strong with enough width to underjaw, good turn of chin. Well pigmented black nose and eye rims. Dark eyes, large and round and of correct set. Ears small and set high, used well. Moderate amount of neck, shoulders well laid, forelegs of correct bone. Chest of good width and depth. Cobby, compact body with well sprung ribs carried well back, muscular loin. Hindquarters well muscled with well bent stifles and low set hocks. High set tail of correct carriage. Harsh coat. Hind movement could be tidier. Moved well in profile movement keeping a level topline at all times. RBOB

Post Graduate (1, 1abs)

1st Suggitt’s Aptrick Buttersky JW - 20 month old bitch, red rough. Good shape and size, cobby and square in outline. Large, round skull, muzzle short and strong and of good width and depth, chin prominent with good turn up. Well pigmented throughout. Nose large with wide open nostrils. Dark, round eyes of correct set fitting well in her face. Enough neck, shoulders strong, forelegs well boned and straight. Good depth and width to chest. Short backed, cobby with good substance. Well sprung ribs carried well back, muscular short loin, level topline carried at all times. Good tailset and carriage. Coat of good texture. A little untidy in hind movement today.

Open (5, 2abs)

1st Swinge’s Balthazar Supersonic - A red, rough male who I have done well for in the past. At 3 years old he is getting into his prime. On the freestand he is a picture of balance, square in outline, full of substance and of good breed type. Such a showman and at one with his handler. Masculine, large round head in proportion with the rest of him, defined stop, short, broad muzzle with good turn of chin, harsh beard and furnishings. Expressive, large dark round eyes, well spaced apart giving such a pleasing expression. Ears neat, set high and carried semi-erect. Muscular neck of good length fitting into a sound front assembly, well laid shoulders, forelegs straight and strong with correct bone. Chest broad and deep without being overdone. Cobby, compact body in excellent muscle condition, well sprung ribs carried well back, strong short loin, level topline held at all times. Muscular hindquarters with well developed thighs, good bend to stifles and low set parallel hocks. Moved freely and soundly with good reach and drive. BOB

2nd Suggitt’s Aptirck Black Starlight - Black rough bitch who has the most feminine head and expression. Skull large and round of good proportions, muzzle short and strong, good turn of chin with well pigmented nose and wide open nostrils. Good harsh beard and furnishings. Eyes large, dark and round with good black eye-rims. Small ears, set high on her head. Nice neck into a decent shoulder placement, forelegs of good bone. Broad chest of good depth. Slightly longer cast than 1st, well sprung ribs, muscular loin. Level topline. Hindquarters sound and of moderate angles. Moved tidily.

Puppy (7, 2abs) - A really lovely class of puppies!

1st Saffer & Swinge’s Bubbapug Summer Sundae - 7 month old fawn bitch. Good size and substance for age. Balanced outline Good round head and expression, short muzzle of good width and depth. Well pigmented, good work in her head with fine wrinkles on forehead, nose black, with wide open nostrils. Large dark eyes full of mischief and wickedness well set, round in shape. Good earset. Well crested neck of good length fitting into sound front assembly, shoulders well laid, forelegs well set under her and of good bone. Chest and front still to develop and firm up as expected at this age, but everything in the right place to do well. Short, sturdy body with well sprung ribs carried well back, level topline held at all times. Hindquarters strong and sound with good angulation. High set tail carried well over her hip. Short, close coat. Moved soundly. Almost threw it away in the challenge with her naughtiness but eventually settled to be awarded BPIB

2nd Morley & Hitchcock’s Afterglow I Dream of Jeannie at Lizlanmor - another exciting prospect who pushed hard for 1st place. This one another fawn bitch of 6 months. Such a confident showgirl even at this young age. Lovely size and shape, presenting a square outline. Cobby and compact. Such a beautiful head with plenty of detailing without being overdone. Round skull, short, wide square muzzle with broad underjaw. Well pigmented throughout. Dark, large round eyes well spaced apart. Good reach of neck, slightly arched, well laid shoulders, forelegs straight and of correct bone. Cobby body with well sprung ribs carried well back. Sound hindquarters of correct angles. High set tail with attractive, typical curl. Moved well with typical roll.

Junior (2, 2abs) - Two lovely bitches who I am sure will change places in their show careers.

1st Dawson-Payne & Mousley’s Judamie Thelma Jean - 13 month old fawn bitch who had the edge on maturity today. She is of a good size, presenting a balanced outline. She is of good type and is not exaggerated in any way, shape or form. Beautiful head, large and round in proportion with the rest of her, clearly defined wrinkles on her forehead, short, blunt muzzle of good width and depth, wide underjaw. Nose well pigmented with wide open nostrils. Twinkling, large dark round eyes full of cheek and naughtiness. Well arched neck fitting smoothly into well laid shoulders, straight forelegs of strong bone well set under her. Good width and depth to her chest. Cobby, compact body with well sprung ribs of good length, muscular, short loin and in good muscle condition throughout. Hindquarters well developed with correct angulation. High set tail with good typical curl. Moved soundly from all angles. Just lost out to her handsome brother for RBOB.

2nd Rutherford’s Bilohka Dawn Patrol with Potbelli - 10 month old bitch who again is of good type. Nice size and shape with good substance and muscle for age. Feminine head and expression with good work in her head, correct head proportions with well rounded skull and short, square muzzle of good width and depths. Well pigmented throughout, black nose and eye rims. Large, dark round eyes full of expression. Neat ears well set on her skull. A well crested neck fits into well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm, chest developing well for age and strong forelegs set well under her cobby body. Short backed with level topline, well sprung ribs, muscular loin. Hindquarters sound with well bent stifle and low set parallel hocks. Moved confidently.

Post Graduate (5, 2abs)

1st Bradley & Edwards Bilohka Beretta with Tomalca - A new one to me and he didn’t disappoint. Beautiful young dog of just 20 months. Scores highly on size, shape and substance. Lovely large head, skull slightly rounded, good work in his head with clearly defined wrinkles, nose black with wide open nostrils, muzzle short, blunt and square of good width and depth. Large, round dark eyes full of expression and fire. Neat ears of good shape, size and set. Well crested neck fitting into strong, sound shoulders, forelegs straight and strong carried well under his body. Chest broad and of good depth. Compact, cobby body, well muscled throughout, well ribbed back with good spring, muscular short loin. Level topline kept at all times. Strong, muscular hindquarters of correct angles. High set tail with good curl. Coat short and close. Moved soundly with typical gentle roll.

2nd Dawson-Payne & Mousley’s Judamie El Santos - Nice fawn male of 13 months. Just slightly longer cast than 1st. Such an attractive,masculine head of good proportions, good detail and wrinkling on his forehead, muzzle short and square with good width to underjaw. Eyes dark, large, round and lustrous. Good reach of neck carrying his head proudly and fitting into well laid shoulders. Good depth of chest, forelegs well boned and of good length. Well sprung ribs carried well back, muscular loin. Level topline. Hindquarters well muscled, well bent stifles and low set parallel hocks. Correct tail set, well curled over hip. Moved with purpose and drive, preferred front movement of 1st.

1st Rutherford’s Ch Potbelli Limited Edition JW - It is no secret that I like this dog a lot having given him top honours previously. Today he had to work hard for his well deserved placement with some very impressive youngsters hot on his heels. For me, he ticks all the boxes for size, shape and substance. Cobby and compact, presenting a balanced outline not overdone or exaggerated in any way. Masculine head with pleasing expression, skull large and round proportionate to the rest of him, good work in his head with fine wrinkles, well pigmented, nostrils wide open, muzzle wide and deep with strong underjaw. Neck is of good length and well crested fitting into well laid shoulders. His chest is broad and deep with strong, well boned forelegs carried well under him. Solid body in good hard muscle condition, well sprung ribs carried well back, muscular strong, short loin. Sound hindquarters with well bent stifles, low set parallel hocks. High set tail well curled over his back. Moved well from all angles with typical pug roll. BOB & pleased to see him go Group 3 in a strong group.

2nd Dawson-Payne & Mousley’s Judamie Eltons Sun - Another favourite of mine whom I have awarded top puppy honours to in the past. Now just out of puppy and is maturing so beautifully, he pushed 1st so hard, but 1st had the edge on front movement today. Saying that, this boy surely has a bright, well decorated future ahead of him. Textbook head and expression, large and round, well wrinkled forehead, muzzle strong, square and of good depth and width, all male! Large, dark round eyes well spaced apart. His neck is strong and well arched flowing smoothly into a sound front assembly. Chest is well developed for age, forelegs straight and strong with good tight feet. Cobby and short backed, in good hard muscle condition throughout, ribs are well sprung and carried well back, muscular, short loin. Strong, muscular hindquarters of correct angles. High set tail with good curl. Moved soundly with typical roll. Couldn’t be denied RBOB in today’s quality entry.
