South Of England Papillon Club
I was delighted to be invited to judge at this show and had a thoroughly enjoyable day with such a lovely breed and exhibitors. I have always had a soft spot for the Papillon having handled many of them in my junior handling days. Thank you the committee for inviting me to judge and to exhibitors for graciously accepting my placings.
VETERAN DOG (7, 3abs)
1st - Morrell’s Serenglade Leap of Faith for Temelora - Black & White Phalene of 8 years old - not showing his age at all and still could show some of the youngsters how to move. Masculine yet handsome head and expression, skull with slight rounding between ears, defined stop, muzzle of good length. Dark, sparkling eyes well set in his skull, medium and round. Earset correct with correct dropped ears. Nice reach to neck, well sloped shoulders with good depth to chest, forelegs straight. MINOR PUPPY DOG (6, 1abs)
1st - Urquhart’s Blackpark Smart As You Like - 6 month old tricolour who is obviously and expectantly very raw at the moment, but oh my there is lots to like about him! Everything is in the right place to develop correctly and I found him to be a rather exciting prospect. So well schooled for a youngster and full of confidence. Dainty and presenting a balanced outline. Handsome head, rounded between ears, fine, pointed muzzle with good stop, dark, expressive eyes fitting his face well, rounded and with dark rims. Large, erect ears set well. Good amount of neck into well laid shoulders. Straight forelegs of fine bone, hare feet. Body well proportioned with well sprung ribs carrying well back. Level topline. Sound hindquarters. High set tail with plumage coming in. Moved well. BPD, BMPIS

Ears are large and erect but reluctant to use them today. Moderate neck, shoulders well placed, forelegs straight and of correct bone. LIMIT DOG (3)
1st - Borg’s Elendil Crusader - Black & White male of 4 years old. For me, slightly up to size however his balance, overall construction, soundness and beautiful expression ticked all the boxes for me today. There is no denying he is male, but he is dainty without any trace of coarseness. He has such a handsome head and expression, well proportioned, rounded between ears with definite stop and fine pointed muzzle of correct length. His eyes are dark, round and fit his face well. Large, mobile ears of correct set and rounded tips with plenty of fringing. Good reach of neck carrying his head proudly, fitting smoothly into well laid shoulders, forelegs straight and of good bone, correct depth of chest. Correct body proportions, not overly long, ribs well sprung and carried well back, short muscular loin. Hindquarters parallel and well angulated with good bend to stifles and low set, straight hocks. High set tail with long, well fringed plume. Fine, silky, straight coat, profuse on chest and hindlegs presented in pristine condition. On the move, he comes alive, excuse the pun, but he floats like a butterfly around the ring with ground covering free flowing movement, sound and tidy coming and going with that added “look at me attitude”. Couldn’t be denied Best Dog and Best In Show.
2nd - Wells’ Skyvana Caught at Metamorphic - Another lovely exhibit who was unlucky to meet 1st on such good form today. Nicely balanced boy of good type, balance and shape.
