Ashington & District Canine Society

Originally I was appointed to judge Irish Setters, at last minute I was called in to judge the rest of the Gundog Group. I thank the exhibitors for your acceptance of my placings, sportsmanship and for bringing your lovely exhibits. I was spoilt for choice in this group and found it chock full of quality.

Irish Setters

Junior (1)

1st Riddell’s Riverwood We Will Rock You - young, 12 month old male presenting a pleasing outline. Handsome, clean head with good width and breadth to skull, equal head planes. Deep square muzzle. Dark eye of correct size, set and shape giving a pleasant, kind expression. Low set ears. Good amount of neck flowing into a correct shoulder placement, forelegs straight and of quality bone. Chest developing well for age, ribs well sprung and carried well back, well muscled loin, correct topline. Well angulated hindquarters with good turn of stifle and low set parallel hocks. Tail set correct, just a little proud of it on the move. Coat of good colour and texture with fringes coming in well. Moved confidently.

1st Wheeldon’s Colemist The Name Of The Game - 6 year old male, well balanced in outline, shapely. Long, lean head with good oval skull giving plenty of brain room, occiput prominent, equal head planes, good amount of stop. Muzzle of good length and depth, clean lips, well pigmented nose. Dark eye of good size, shape and set giving intelligent expression. Ears set low and carried well back. Reachy neck, slightly arched fitting seamlessly into well laid shoulders. Straight forelegs of good bone. Deep chested, in excellent muscle condition throughout, ribs well sprung, carried well back, muscular, firm loin, straight, slightly sloping topline. Well muscled rear with well bent stifles and straight, low set parallel hocks. Well feathered tail of correct set and carriage. Flat coat of moderate length, well feathered. Moved soundly. BOB

1st Morris’ Mycalleys Koko - Stunning black bitch of 11 months who is quite the head turner from every angle. Enters the ring like she owns it with style and sass. So well balanced on the stack, compact and of nice size with good substance for age. Quality headpiece, rounded skull, stop clearly defined, correct skull to muzzle ratio, well chiseled. Muzzle strong and square, broad jaw with good scissor bite. Large, dark, rounded eyes adding to her glorious expression. Ears well set, lobular and plenty of furnishings. Arched neck of good length into well laid, sloping shoulders, straight forelegs of strong bone. Compact body, chest developing well, solid little body, well sprung ribs, back strong with correct topline. Well angulated hindquarters, strong and well boned. Coat well presented, silky and not overly coated. Perfect tail set and carriage. Moved soundly and effortlessly around the ring with an air of her own self importance. BOB, BPIB, G4 & PG1.

2nd Morris’ Mycalleys Sirocco - litter brother to 1st with lots to like about him too, I just felt today he was not quite as positive in front reach as his sibling and, whilst still compact, not quite as compact as his sister. Nevertheless he is still balanced and of good size, full of substance and in excellent muscle condition for age. Handsome head of good proportions, rounded skull, accentuated brows and stop, broad, deep, square muzzle of correct length. Dark, rounded eyes of correct shape and set giving pleasing expression, ear set correct. Muscular neck of good length, arched and fitting into a sound front assembly. Good chest, well ribbed back and of good spring, muscular loin. Sound hindquarters. Presented well. Moved confidently and soundly.

Junior (3, 1abs)

1st Thompson’s Mary’s Bluebell Lady - blue roan bitch of 9 months old of good size, compact and square. Head a little strong and would prefer a tighter eye, however, her head is proportionate and is of decent ratios. Square muzzle, definite stop, enough chiselling. Dark eye of good size, lobular, low set ears. Good amount of neck into a front with enough angulation, forelegs straight and of strong bone. Body compact, strong, chest developing well, ribs well sprung, loin short, level topline. Well rounded rear, good turn of stifle, low set hocks. Good tail set and carriage. Flat, silky coat. Moved confidently. BPIB

2nd Bell’s Lochellan Exclusively Made at Tolberg - another blue roan of 10 months. Scored highly on size and compactness. Feminine head and expression, good skull shape, defined stop, muzzle square. Dark eyes of correct size, shape and set, ears low set and well feathered. Would like a little more neck. Moderately sloping shoulders, forelegs straight and of quality bone. Chest developing, compact body, ribs well sprung and carried well back. Sound hindquarters. Moved ok, not quite the front reach of 1st.

1st Rainey’s Kalispell Villaanelle - 5 year old blue roan bitch. Compact and square in outline and of correct size. Pretty, feminine expression with a head of good proportions, correct skull to muzzle ratio, defined stop and square muzzle, distinct stop, good chiselling. Dark, expressive eyes of good colour, shape and size. Ears well set, lobular with good covering of fine, silky hair. Nice neck into a sound front assembly, forelegs well boned. Enough chest, compact body, muscular throughout, ribs well sprung and carried well back, good width to loins, short and taut. Muscular, well developed thighs, well angulated and of strong bone. Moved well but lacking oomph today.

1st Barber-Ball’s Kalispell Cover de Lion - 5 year old blue roan male. Balanced outline, compact and square in outline. Super, merry cocker attitude. Proportionate head with well developed skull, definite stop, good chiselling and deep square muzzle. Eyes dark and of good size, shape and set, eye rims tight. Ears low set and lobular. Good length of neck, muscular and cleanly fitting into well laid shoulders, well boned, straight forelegs, neat firm feet. Well developed chest with deep brisket, well sprung ribs carried well back, short, muscular loin, topline level. Wide, parallel hindquarters, well muscled and of good angulation, well bent stifles, low set parallel hocks. Moved well with ground covering, bustling action.

2nd Palmer’s Cassom Sun Dreaming over Colmeir - 4 year old orange roan. Handsome head of good proportions, square muzzle, good chiselling and definite stop. Dark eyes of correct size and shape giving pleasing expression. Enough neck into moderately laid shoulders, good depth to chest, forelegs straight and well boned. Compact body, square, well muscled, ribs well sprung and carried well back. Level topline. Muscular hindquarters, hind angles matching fore. Not quite as footsure on the move as 1st.

1st Calvert’s Calvdale With Respect - 10 month old, mature looking male who ticks a lot of boxes. Balanced outline, good make and shape. Masculine without a trace of coarseness, skull broad, slightly rounded, well chiselled with clean cheeks, good length and depth to muzzle. Almond shaped eye of correct set, size and colour. Ears correctly set, feathering coming in well. Strong, reachy neck slightly arched and fitting seamlessly into well laid shoulders. Forelegs straight and of strong, quality bone. Correct body proportions, chest developing well, ribs well sprung and strong loin. Hindquarters strong with well bent stifles, low set parallel hocks giving him plenty of power on the move. Thighs well muscled and broad. Moved soundly from all angles with plenty of reach and drive. BPIB & G3

2nd Calvet’s Calvdale Dramatic Effect - 13 month old bitch who unfortunately was unsettled by a commotion outside of the ring. That being said, constructionally she beautiful, and when she did settle showed typical movement. Lovely shape, balanced outline. Feminine head of correct proportions, skull gently rounded, broad and of medium length, strong muzzle of good depth and length. Expressive eyes, dark hazel in colour, almond in shape, eyelids tight fitting, well set in her face. Neck of good length flowing into a sound front assembly, well laid shoulders, good depth of chest, forelegs strong and straight. Compact body, well muscled throughout, well ribbed back, taut, muscular loin. Muscular hindquarters, strong and sound. Moved well when settled and by the second class had settled fully.

2nd Chandler’s Elazlan Coronation Day - Very promising 8 month old bitch. Totally balanced throughout and of good size and shape. Proportionate head, medium skull, broad and slightly rounded, good stop, flat cheeks, well chiselled, muzzle of good length. Dark hazel, almond eyes of correct set giving typical expression. Neck of good length, slightly arched and fitting into well laid shoulders, chest still to develop as expected at this age, forelegs straight and of quality bone. Well ribbed back and ribs well sprung, short, muscular loin, correct topline. Hindquarters strong and sound with well bent stifles and low set parallel hocks. Moved soundly and confidently.

1st Snook’s Moorbrook Mogul of March - Dark blue belton mature male presenting a pleasing outline when stacked. Lean head, skull oval with pronounced occiput. Definite stop, muzzle square and of good depth and length. Eyes of good size and shape, harmonising with coat colour and giving a kind expression. Low set ears of moderate length. Enough neck, strong and muscular, shoulders well laid back, good depth of chest, forelegs straight with rounded bone. Proportionate body of good length, level backed with ribs well sprung and carried well back, loin short and muscular. Good width to thighs, hind angles matching that of his fore, low set parallel hocks. Tailset correct, well feathered and of good length. Moved well with free flowing action BOB.

2nd Taylor’s Kanietter Kocoa - Blue belton & tan. Handsome head of decent proportions, masculine kind expression. Eyes of good set, colour and size, ears set low framing his face well. Enough neck, would like a better lay of shoulder, deep in chest and brisket. Forelegs straight and well boned. Ribs well sprung and carried well back, correct topline. Thighs well muscled, moderate angles. Moved ok.

1st Snook’s Dalreavoch Northern Caper - Made handler work today! Blue belton with a balanced outline, of good size and shape. Lovely head of good proportions giving such a kind expression. Oval skull, defined occipital bone, clear stop, muzzle of good length, deep and square, equal head planes. Eyes dark and harmonising with coat of correct set, shape and size. Nice reach of neck into a sound front. Forelegs straight and of good round bone. Correct depth to chest, body well muscled, ribs well sprung and carried well back. Strong, muscular loin. Good width to broad thighs, well bent stifles and low set parallel hocks. Tailset correct, ever-lashing on the move. Moved soundly from all angles.

1st Greenwood’s Brevathos Tanna - 2 year old bitch who still needs to fill out in chest and body. Although finer throughout, she is feminine and presents a pleasing outline. Proportionate head, good skull to muzzle ratio, muzzle of good depth, lips fitting well. Eyes of medium size, good set, shape and colour. Ears well set and framing face well. Enough neck, well muscled. Well laid shoulders, straight forelegs of quality bone. Still to mature in body but ribs well carried back and of good spring, short backed with level topline, strong loin. Hindquarters strong with enough bend to stifles. Moved ok.

1st Mann’s Sh Ch Elfindew Endrick - Stunning 4 year old male. Who looks good from every and any angle screams quality. Super breed type and so well balanced. Clean cut head, skull slightly rounded and broad, muzzle of good depth and length with well developed lips. Eyes of medium size, well set giving soft, intelligent expression. High set, broad ears. Reachy neck, slightly arched and broadening into well laid, muscular shoulders. Forelegs straight and of strong, quality bone. In excellent muscular condition throughout, chest well developed of correct depth, ribs well sprung and carried well back, firm, strong, broad loin, short backed with correct topline. Well muscled hindquarters, thighs strong and broad. Stifles well bent and parallel hocks well let down. Moved with smooth, effortless strides covering plenty of ground with super reach and drive. In a high quality gundog group he dared me to look elsewhere and I couldn’t! BOB & Group 1

2nd Cox’s Cushatlaw Athena JW - as feminine as 1st was masculine. 2 years old. Super balance and outline, just not quite as mature in body as 1st. Beautiful head and expression, proportionate head and good skull to muzzle ratio. Muzzle strong with a well developed lip. Kind eye and expression. Good earset and shape. Muscular neck of good length, well arched and flowing smoothly into a sound front assembly. Body of correct proportions, strong and firm, ribs carried well back and well sprung. Hindquarters well muscled, thighs broad and well developed. Nice angles with well bent stifles and parallel hocks. Another excellent mover covering a lot of ground with good reach and drive.

1st Wheeldon’s Lamhryn Star Of The Sea - Eyecatching puppy of beautiful balance and type. Ideal for size with good substance for age. Proportionate head with broad skull, equal skull to muzzle ratio, defined stop with well pigmented nose. Dark brown eyes, well set in face giving kind and gentle expression. Reachy neck of good length, muscular and carrying her head proudly. Shoulders well laid with good return of upper arm. Strong, straight forelegs of quality bone. Well bodied for age, ribs well sprung and carried well back, loins short and strong with level topline. Hindquarters parallel and sound with well bent stifles and well let down hocks. Tail set and carriage correct. Flowed around the ring with good reach and drive, tidy movement coming and going. BPIB & Puppy Group 2.

2nd Wardhope’s Baricia Bella Divino - Another nice puppy who was unlucky to meet 1st today on such good form. At just 6 months, he is giving away a lot on maturity just now but has plenty of time on his side. Handsome head and expression, skull of good breadth, strong muzzle of good length, well pigmented nose and eye rims. Dark eye of good size, shape and set. Ears of medium size, well set. Clean neck, well muscled and fitting into a sound front assembly. Straight forelegs with good catlike feet. Well bodied for age, good ribbing and strong loin. Tended to lose his topline a little today. Hindquarters strong and sound. Moved well.

1st Martin’s Garline Guarding Lola - Lovely, honest bitch who had a pleasing, balanced outline. Head of good proportions, skull broad, clear stop, wide, deep muzzle of good length. Well pigmented. Kind, dark eye giving a pleasant expression. Reachy neck of good length fitting into well laid shoulders, forelegs straight and of strong bone carried well under her. Good depth of chest, ribs well sprung and carried well back, taut, muscular loin, level topline held at all times. Muscular hindquarters of good angles, well bent stifles and low set parallel hocks. Tail well set on and carried in line with her back. Moved truly.

2nd Holmes’ Amirene Innocence - Nice exhibit of good proportions. Balanced head of good proportions, defined stop, powerful muzzle of good length and depth, well pigmented nose. Eyes dark brown, well spaced apart giving a kindly expression. Nice neck into a sound front assembly. Well boned, straight forelegs. Good body with well sprung ribs, level topline. Sound hindquarters with good angulation. Moved well.

1st Foster’s Eau My Gold Vd Corner Brook for Auristela - Feminine bitch who scored highly on her super balanced outline, correct, pretty head and sound, typical movement. She is of good size and in excellent muscle condition throughout. Balanced head, planes equal in length, well chiselled, deep muzzle of good width. Super pigmentation. Ears well set and of good size. Lovely dark brown eyes well spaced apart giving gentle expression. Muscular neck of good length flowing smoothly into well laid shoulders. Good return of upper arm, forelegs strong and of quality bone well set under her. Nice depth of chest, body well muscled and short coupled, ribs carried well back and well sprung. Level topline. Powerful hindquarters, broad thighs, well bent stifles and well let down parallel hocks. Tail set and carriage correct. Flowed around the ring with ground covering reach and drive, tidy, parallel movement coming and going. BOB.

2nd Towers’ & Henderson’s Alibren Majestic Dawn - Another nice bitch who was unlucky to meet 1st. Shapely and balanced of good size and substance. Lovely head, good skull shape, chiselling, correct depth and width to muzzle, equal head planes adding to her pleasing expression. Dark brown eyes of good size, shape and set, well pigmented throughout. Clean neck into a sound front assembly, good depth of chest with plenty of heart room, well ribbed back with ribs well sprung, short coupled with muscular loin. Strong, sound hindquarters. Moved well.

1st Martin’s Garline Love So Deep - Appealing pale golden bitch who scores highly on shape and balance. Well muscled. Clean, feminine head of good proportions, wide, deep muzzle. Well pigmented nose and eye rims. Eyes kind and of good colour, size and set. Ears medium and set in line with eye. Neck of good length, shoulders well laid, forelegs straight and strong. Chest well developed and of good depth, muscular body of correct length, well ribbed back, short couplings and level topline. Broad, well muscled thighs with good bend to stifles and low set, parallel hocks. Tail set and carriage correct. Moved well.

2nd Williams’ Auristela Lady Luck at Lamhryn - Another lovely bitch who pushed 1st hard. Well balanced outline, ever so slightly finer throughout than 1st. Very feminine, appealing head with kindly expression, skull to muzzle ratio correct, muzzle deep and wide with well pigmented nose. Eyes and eye rims dark, well set in her pretty face. Nice amount of neck into a well constructed front. Forelegs straight and of quality bone, neat feet. Well muscled body with ribs carried well back and of good spring, short, strong loin, level topline kept at all times. Sound hindquarters matching the angles of her front. Tail well set on and carried in line with her back. Moved soundly from all angles.

1st Hackett’s Sh Ch Curlyco My Hot Rockstar - Stood alone, however he would be hard to ignore in any competition. Beautifully balanced, typical outline. Handsome head of good proportions, skull of good width and depth, strong, square-ish muzzle. Almond shaped eye of good size, harmonising with coat colour giving intelligent expression. Ears long and framing his face well. Neck of good length, slightly arched and well set into well sloped shoulders. Forelegs straight and of strong bone. Chest deep of good width. Barrel shaped rib of good spring carried well back, short backed, body in excellent muscle condition, broad, strong loin. Strong hindquarters with well bent stifles and low set hocks propelling him with powerful drive on the move. Coat absolutely correct with oily ringlets, presented beautifully. Moved freely with ground covering action and demonstrating typical roll. Won Group 2 in an exceptionally strong Gundog Group.

1st Greenwood’s Edenwood Wildcat - 9 month old chocolate bitch puppy presenting a good shape when stood. Rather raw and needs to develop in body and chest as expected at this age. Feminine head and expression, broad enough with definite stop. Expressive eyes of good colour, set, shape and size. Nice neck into well sloped shoulders, forelegs straight and of good bone. Well ribbed back with good spring, level topline. Strong hindquarters with well bent stifles and low set parallel hocks. Thick otter tail which never stopped wagging. Moved well with confidence. 1st Beadling’s Danehaven Savalette - 2 and a half year old female who was very excitable and enjoying herself so much in the ring today that she made it little difficult to asses her - she certainly made her handler work. Clean cut skull, broad with flat cheeks, muzzle strong and of good length, tapering gradually. Almond shaped eye well spaced apart, well feathered triangular ears. Enough neck, would like a little more layback of shoulder, straight forelegs and neat feet. Good depth to chest, ribs well sprung and carried well back, short loin. Hind angles matching those of front. Well feathered tail of good set. Moved ok when settled. BOB

Skull of good proportions, well defined stop, good length to her concave muzzle, good lips, well pigmented nose and eye rims. Kind eyes of good set, shape and size. Ears thin, well set on skull and framing face well. Muscular neck of good length, slightly arched and fitting smoothly into well laid shoulders, forelegs straight and of quality bone. Chest of good depth, ribs well sprung and carried well back, strong, muscular loin. Muscular hindquarters, well developed thighs, stifles well bent with low set parallel hocks. Tail well set on, carried well on move. Moved smoothly and effortlessly with ground covering action.

2nd Rowell’s Wilchrimane Silent Sonnet at Daledancer - Black & White puppy bitch of 7 months, giving a lot away on maturity today, but oh so pretty. Ultra feminine head and expression, good breadth and width to skull, definite stop, muzzle of good length, flat cheeks. Lovely dark eye, bright and expressive well set and of good size and shape. Good neck into a sound front assembly, chest still to develop as expected at this age. Well ribbed back, strong loin. Well angulated hindquarters with good bend to stifles and low set parallel hocks. Moved well with confidence.

1st Rowell’s Raigmore Limelight at Daledancer - 3 year old bitch. Well balanced, of good shape and size, in super muscle condition throughout. Beautiful head of good proportions giving such a sweet expression, well pigmented nose and eyerims. Dark eyes, harmonising with coat colour, well set. Ears of good size and set framing face well. Reachy neck, muscular and flowing gracefully into a sound front assembly, good depth of chest, forelegs straight and of oval bone. Well sprung ribs carried well back, short coupled, muscular loin. Broad thighs, well bent stifles with low set hocks. Slashing tail. Moved freely and soundly from all angles.

2nd Barker’s Caithpoint Maia at Flinthill - Another lovely bitch who pushed 1st hard. Just preferred neck & shoulder placement of 1st. Good outline, balanced and of good breed type. Appealing head and expression, proportionate skull to muzzle, concave muzzle, well developed lip, lovely pigment throughout. Muscular body, level topline, well ribbed back with good spring, muscular loin. Hindquarters well muscled with good bend to stifles and strong hocks propelling her on the move. Moved well.

1st Wood’s Pabiagas Sergid Sinduda - 16 month old white & brown male of good size and substance. Balanced outline. Flat skull with slight stop, proportionate strong muzzle. Oval shaped eye of medium size, expressive, colour harmonizing with coat. V shaped dropped ears of correct set. Muscular neck well set into sound, strong shoulders. Well angulated front, straight forelegs of strong bone. Back level, well developed chest, slightly longer than high, ribs well sprung and carried well back. Well developed, rounded thighs, moderate bend to stifles, parallel, well let down hocks. Coat of good texture, presented well. Moved briskly with good reach and drive. BOB

Medium sized oval eyes, set obliquely of good set and colour. V-Shaped ears of medium size and correct set. Muscular neck of good length fitting into a sound front assembly. Forelegs straight and of good bone. Chest well developed, of good depth, well ribbed back with good spring, muscular loin. Sound hindquarters, moderately angled. Coat of good curl and texture, maintained well. Moved well in profile movement, just slightly tight in hind movement.

1st Mowbray’s Crumbledor Rita Skeetar - 7 month old bitch puppy who was absolutely full of attitude and loving her time in the ring today. Very raw and a little “bum high” as expected at this age and stage of her development, however plenty of time on her side to balance out and everything in the right place to develop well. Wide skull, definite stop, strong muzzle of good length and strength. Eyes hazel in colour, expressive and large, eyelids fitting well. Low set, lobular ears. Strong neck with slight arch fitting into strong shoulders, short strong forelegs. Good length to body, well ribbed back. Sound hindquarters. Round feet. Moved well, with confidence. BPIB

1st Mowbray’s Crumbledor Bella Le Strange - 3 year old bitch of good size and substance. Wide skull of correct breadth, pronounced stop, frowning brows giving typical expression. Hazel eyes, large with well fitted eyelids. Ears thick and low set framing her face well. Stong neck of good length fitting into well laid shoulders, forelegs well boned, short and strong. Deep chest, well muscled body, ribs well rounded and carried well back, muscular, broad loins. Thighs well developed with strong bone, muscular. Well angulated behind without being overdone. Moved truly with typical roll. BOB

1st Chandler’s Santannina Chance Affair for Chanangel - 7 month old bitch, oh so naughty and giving her handler a bit of a hard time today. Presents a good outline and is of nice size. Pretty head and expression, skull of good length and breadth, muzzle square-ish and in proportion. Medium sized eyes, dark and expressive. Ears set low. Good neck into sound shoulders, forelegs straight and of good bone. Body still to develop as expected at this age but everything in the right place to develop correctly, well ribbed back, level topline, short loin. Hindquarters strong and of good angles. Moved well when settled.

2nd Chandler’s Chanangel Royal Ascot - Handled well and sympathetically by young handler. Preferred outline and front of 1st. Lovely, feminine head of good proportions, dark expressive eyes of good size, shape and set. Ear set correct. Enough neck into well laid shoulders, forelegs well boned. Again, still to develop in chest and body but has plenty of time on her side. Good topline held at all times, well ribbed back, short couplings. Well rounded rear with correct angulation. Another good mover.

1st Chandler’s Chanangel Jo Sugden JW - Upstanding, eyecatching young male of 2 years old. So well balanced, of good shape, size and substance, presenting a gorgeous outline. Handsome head of good proportions, strong muzzle, defined stop, well chiselled. Dark eyes of medium size well set, low set ears of vine leaf shape framing face well. 1st Robson’s Kalimor Washington at Robicci - Very handsome male just a day short of 1 year old. Balanced outline, nice shape and size. Handsome head of good proportions, moderate stop, equal head planes, good depth to muzzle. Eyes round, of medium size, well set in his face, colour harmonising with his coat. Clean neck of good length fitting smoothly into a good lay of shoulder. Forelegs straight and of quality bone. Chest and body well developed for age, body proportionate being slightly longer than high, well sprung ribs carried well back, firm, short loin. Hindquarters well angulated. Moved soundly.

2nd Robinson’s Belgila Pioneer - Feminine bitch of good size presenting a pleasing outline, just not quite the hind angles of 1st. Pretty head of correct proportions, kind eyes of good set and colour. Ear set and shape correct. Nice reach of neck fitting into a sound front assembly. Well boned, straight forelegs. Enough depth to chest, ribs well sprung and carried well back, loin muscular and strong. Hindquarters muscular and of moderate angles. Moved well from all angles.
