BEST IN SHOW
I made a cut of 8 very good dogs including, the Italian Spinone, McGregor’s Diggmere Gignese, the Sussex Spaniel, Allen-Line’s Marquell Torshca Chaos, the Curly Coated Retriever, Clack’s Bazzy Inti Anka At Molokain (Cze Imp) and the Clumber Spaniel, Monaghan’s Kensesqui Nice At Tweedsmuir.
BIS was the Gordon Setter, Mappin’s Bryerdale Qangeroo. One look into those dark, bright eyes and I was hooked. Her expression is so appealing and tells you of her kindly and even disposition. She has terrific front assembly, I just love it when the brisket falls deep into my hand, is well ribbed back and has strong quarters which she uses to move so steadily and freely. She owned the ring.
RBIS went to the beautiful GSP, Pearson’s Sh Ch Winterwell Lulu Moppet To Ladyhawke JW. She presents such a graceful outline, is a picture of power, endurance and speed and has a wonderful air of nobility about her. Her body is taut and deep in chest with a short back and she stands over plenty of ground. Her coat is short, flat and coarse to touch.
Group 3 was the most impressive Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Mahon-Hunns, Hunns & Newton’s Sh Ch Arnac Bay Huron At Bergelle JW. He is so strong and muscular in appearance, perfectly balanced and carries the all important distinctive oily, double coat. This stallion of a dog moves with a strong and powerful gait and can clearly go all day.
In the Group 4 spot was the compact and very smart Irish Water Spaniel, Latheron & Trenchard’s Fynder Reacher. I judged this breed today and this dog impressed me with his free and stylish movement, rolling motion and the fact that he held his shape at all times. He was fabulous to watch on the go around.
BEST PUPPY IN SHOW
I made a shortlist of 8 which included the Golden Retriever, List’s Haydengold Moment In Time, the Bracco, Hamlyn’s Amestorah Razzle Dazzle, the Brittany, Nicholls’ Minama Unforgettable At Stonesview and the American Cocker, Dummett & Vikhrova’s Nova Story Boogie Woogie (Imp Mne).
BPIS was Glendinning’s ESS, Plaiglen One Last Time. As I turned to look at her on the stack, she took my breath away with her symmetrical build and strong, compact body. She has a beautifully chiselled head, dark, almond shaped eyes and a beautiful expression all framed with nicely feathered ears. On the move she impressed with her typical ESS gait, swinging her forelegs straight forward from the shoulder and throwing her feet well forward in an easy free manner.
RBPIS went to Clack & Eddery’s Curly Coated Retriever, Epsilon Adhara At Molokain. I found her simply enchanting when I judged the breed today. She is well angulated fore and aft, has a deep brisket, and carries a strong and level topline. Her head is typical wedge shaped and she has such a benign expression in her dark, obliquely set eyes.
Group 3 was Proudlove’s Irish Water Spaniel, Cuboglach Toadflax Brocade. This was another of the breeds that I judged today and in true IWS fashion he made me laugh with his clownish behaviour. As the day went on and he learned his job he just got better and better. When he decided which way he was going round the ring he moved with style.
Group 4 was the Clumber Spaniel, Boden’s Suelynda Boom Bang A Bang. He is balanced and strongly boned and has a firm, fit body. I loved his pensive expression and the way he powered effortlessly round the ring.
RETRIEVER (CURLY COATED)
Puppy Dog or Bitch
1st Epsilon Adhara At Molokain. As I’ve said above, I found her quite enchanting with her pretty head and expression. She is well off for bone, forelegs well under body, has plenty of depth, well sprung ribs and a moderate bend of stifle. She wears a thick coat of small, tight, crisp curls and moves with a powerful gait showing plenty of reach and drive. BPIB. RBOB. RBPIS.
2nd Roughyeds Regal Fairbanks At Schwarzmoose. She is at a bit of a leggy stage so is not quite as long in body as she could be compared to her height. That said I liked her wedge shaped head, she is well boned and has good depth and ribs and enough forechest. Moved well.
Junior Dog or Bitch
1st Foxriever Grey Ghost. He has plenty of bone and substance, a good forehand, depth of brisket and well sprung ribs. Strong neck, well laid shoulders and there is plenty of dog in front. I liked his head and expression, correct wedge shape and dark eyes. Carries a thick, crisp coat. Moved out well. RBOB.
Post Graduate Dog or Bitch
1st Foxriever Grey Ghost. Repeat.
2nd Molokain Hocus Pocus. A really nice bitch who does herself no favours by straightening herself behind on the stack. She doesn’t have the forechest of the winner but her head is lovely with a beautiful eye and expression. Another very good coat.
3rd Foxriever Midsummer Magic At Thunderguard
Open Dog or Bitch
1st Bazzy Inti Anka At Molokain (Cze Imp). This dog carries the best of coats; it is dense with no undercoat and is a mass of tight, crips curls. He presents a strong and powerful outline and whilst clearly all male he has a touch of elegance about him. He powered round the ring to take BOB.
SPANIEL (IRISH WATER)
Puppy Dog or Bitch
1st Cuboglach Toadflax Brocade. He has a very handsome head with plenty of brain room and a strong muzzle. Powerful, arched neck, well laid shoulders, big ribs and carries an abundant coat. I liked him very much even though he preferred to sit rather than stand! BPIB. RBOB. Puppy Group 3.
Open Dog or Bitch
1st Fynder Reacher. So very well presented with a dense coat of tight crisp ringlets. He has a handsome and well balanced head covered with a pronounced top knot and a big, well developed nose. He has passed many of his qualities on to his son. BOB. Group 4.
GERMAN WIREHAIRED POINTER
Post Graduate Dog or Bitch
1st Kimmax Klean Sweep. Whilst I preferred the head of the second placed bitch the winner had the better coat and furnishings and she carried her tail better on the move. Covers plenty of ground.
2nd Germanus Miles Between Us. She has a beautifully balanced head with a kind eye and soft expression. Sadly out of coat today.
Open Dog or Bitch
1st Kimmax Kallin Danny Boy Over. I liked both of these exhibits but again the second placed was out of coat. Handsome head, strong neck, well ribbed up, wide quarters and covers plenty of ground on the move. BOB.
2nd Germanus Hotwyr Yindi. Moderately built with good ribbing and superb muscle tone. Pleasing head and expression. Effortless mover. RBOB.
BRITTANY
Puppy Dog or Bitch
1st Minama Unforgettable At Stonesview. Cobby and compact with a typical head, dark expressive eyes and a soft expression. Straight forelegs and stands on tight feet. Well muscled all through. I liked him very much. BPIB. RBOB.
Open Dog or Bitch
1st Bonapartist Trooper Of Stonesview. Good type, workmanlike and square. Terrific ribbing, cobby and wide, muscular quarters. Brisk mover. BOB.
