Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at Romsey and District Canine Society.

Adult Handling

17-30 (3,1)

1st Chloe Clarke

Chloe got the best out of her Irish Setter and always stood her dog excellently. She used the whole space to move her dog to its advantage. I would prefer neater pattern work on the triangle and more awareness of the judge's position in the ring. In the challenge, she completed her pattern work well, however lost out to BAH when I was considering the overall performance.

30-45 (3,2)

1st Ann-Marie Taylor - It is clear there is a great rapport with her dog. Quiet and understated handler. Knowledgeable of the points of the dog. Used the whole ring to move her dog to its best. Neat pattern work and aware of my positioning throughout the class.

2nd Carla Tanswell - Quiet handler with a nice rapport with her dog. Ensure you are going from the judge's feet when completing your pattern and be aware of the judges positioning in the ring especially when stacking your dog.

45+ (11, 6)

This was a very difficult class to judge. All the handlers were excellent.

1st Marguerite McShane - This handler is exactly my cup of tea. Knowledgeable, quiet and understated. She encouraged her dog throughout the class and got the best from it. Lovely, neat pattern work and change overs. She faded into the background! BAH

2nd Trish Hartfield - Another excellent handler. Pushed hard for first place. Moved her dog at the correct pace around the ring. Neat pattern work throughout. Awarded second due to the positioning of her dog after the straight up and down.

1st – Powell and Tarrant – Newtonbriar Pure Bliss – This bitch oozes femininity. Lovely profile. Nice pleasing head, with broad skull. Straight forelegs and chest deep with nice spring of rib. Neck muscular and good sloping shoulders. Well muscled hindquarters, in fit condition and well bent stifle. I would’ve preferred more reach and drive on the move, hence RBOB.

2nd – Mapes – Agenusher Mulberry

Pleasing male of 2 years old. Well balanced. Pleasing head with broad skull. Nice clean neck into good shoulders. Level topline. Good, muscled hindquarters. Moved well covering plenty of ground. More schooling needed to build his confidence.

3rd – Caddy – Topfield Magic Sunrise

Lovely 8 year old male. Good overall outline. Well balanced. Pleasing masculine head. Good length of neck, well placed shoulders, enough depth of chest, level top line. Correct rear angles. Excellent movement with reach and drive. BOB

1st – Mr S &Mrs K M Challis - Vizslanya Valor

 Promising 6-month-old puppy. Lovely clean head and noble expression. Good length of neck and depth of chest for his age. Level topline and good hindquarters and nice bend of stifle. Moved out well, covering the ground. I am sure this dog will have a great show career. BP

1st Harper Mr J P & Mrs E J - Pitswarren Jiko

This 15-month old bitch really caught my eye. Whilst this bitch has substance she oozes femininity. Lovely head with good proportions and gentle expression. Great reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Great forechest and spring of rib for her age. Firm and level topline alongside good amount of muscle tone. Excellent bend in stifle. She came into her own on the move and covered plenty of ground. Very pleased that she was appreciated by the group judge who awarded her group 1. BOB.

2nd GREGORY, Mrs T - Sevensden Autumnal Gold

Lovely head and expression on this 12 month old bitch. Pleasing head with gentle expression. Balanced in outline. Clean neck fitting into good shoulders. Didn't quite have the depth of chest as 1st place as she needs to fill out little more. However, this could come with age. Moved well with reach and drive.

1st Harper Mr J P & Mrs E J - Pitswarren Jambo

Substantial and typey young male. Noble expression with good proportions. Clean neck into well laid-back shoulders. Good depth of chest and well sprung ribs for his age. Moderate angulation in the rear. Moved well but did not have quite the reach and drive of the principal winners.

1st Challis, Mr S & Mrs K M - Vizslanya csibe jw

At 3 and half she oozes femininity. Pleasing head and lovely expression. Moderately long neck into well laid muscular shoulders. Clean outline and in proportion. Nice angulation in behind with good stifles. Nothing is overstated with her. Moved with reach and drive, at one with her handler. I have judged this bitch before and awarded her BOB however, on this occasion I preferred the substance of my special yearling winner for BOB.

2nd Ms M Kiely - Gunfield Phantom

Eight-year dog with a nicely proportioned head and gentle expression. Not as clean in neck and shoulders as 1st place. Good depth of chest and is well ribbed. Preferred the overall movement of 1st place, whilst he kept his shape on the move, he flew his tail.

Although he stood alone, there was lots to like about this 2-year-old male. Balanced head with pleasing expression. Well-muscled neck leading into well laid-back shoulders. Good front angulation and topline. Moved true whilst maintaining his topline. BOB

6-month-old bitch. A pretty feminine girl who has a pleasing wedge-shaped head which is true to type. Stong neck nicely laid back onto shoulders. A deep chest and good spring of rib for her age. Well muscled. Stifles well bent. A happy girl on the move. BP

1st Burchell, Mr N C & Y S – Flavour Lavour of Tokaj Aszu Suchy Las Vegas to Tivalake (IMP POL)

13 month old bitch. Lovely young bitch with pleasing wedge-shaped head. Moderate neck, which is well muscled, leading to well-laid-back shoulders. Deep brisket and well-rounded ribs for her age. Good overall muscle tone and well bent stifles. Moved well, covering the ground with ease. Didn't quite have the coat of the principal winners.

1st Miss N Nevers - Tollelkin Dream Cove at Sheldrake JW

Really loved this three-year-old male. Pleasing wedge shaped head and kind expression. Well-muscled neck leading onto well-laid-back shoulders. Excellent depth of chest and spring of rib. Well-muscled all over, with real stifles well bent. Moved at one with the handler in typical jaunty action. Happy to award BOB.

2nd Burchell’s - Tivalake Temptation HTM NOV EX RL1 EX

Another lovely example of the breed. At 8 ½ this bitch is extremely feminine. Typey wedge-shaped head and kind, bright expression. Nice medium length neck leading to lovely front angulation. Deep chest with excellent spring of rib. Well bent stifles. All over balanced and nothing overstated. I preferred the movement of 1st place but declared her as my RBOB.

Green, Mrs E K & Mr R – Hookwood Hawker

7-month-old male who is a very raw youngster. Pleasing expression with a nice dark eye. When settled he produced a good shape in profile. Clean neck with nicely laid-back-shoulders. Slightly narrower in front than I would prefer. When settled in the stack, he was able to highlight his slightly sloping pasterns. Good overall bend in stifle. Needs to settle on the move as he tended to throw out his front, but this could come together in time as he matures. BP

1st Brooksmith, Ms A - Millpoint Golden Pippin JW

I loved this O&W bitch. Stylish and oozes femininity. Soft and gentle expression. Long clean neck flowing smoothly into clean laid-back shoulders. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Hindquarters well-muscled and excellent bend of stifle. Exceptionally balanced on the stack. She moved smoothly around the ring with reach and drive. BOB.

2nd Cardiff, Miss T - Freebreeze Pixar at Prosperity

Another balanced and desirable O&W bitch. Pleasing head with kind expression. Lovely, dished appearance. Good length to neck and good depth of forechest. I preferred the rear angulation and overall picture in the stack of 1st place. Moved around the ring with reach and drive.

1st Brooksmith, Ms A – Nightgold Pipkin

Lovely bitch L&W with nothing overdone. Balanced on the stack. Pleasing head with gentle expression. straight front with good lay of shoulders, enough depth to her chest. Moderately well-bent stifles. Shown in good condition. She did not have the reach and drive on the move as the post graduate winner. Declared RBOB.

Although, stood alone, there was lots to like about this 3-year-old male. Kind expression with a masculine head and a clearly defined stop. Long muscular neck set onto good shoulders. Good overall bone and in proportion. Stifles moderately angled and hocks well let down. Free and steady movement, driving from the rear. BOB.
