Ulster Golden Retriever Club

Many thanks to the Secretary and her Society for this lovely invitation to judge your open show alongside the Championship show in the beautiful setting of Shane’s Castle. Appreciated all your lovely entries, all dogs were sound and presented in lovely condition but unfortunately it was hard to assess some exhibits’ movement due to handlers being unable to move their dogs at the correct speed, all exhibits had lovely temperaments and were a credit to their owners.

VD 4(2)

1. Middlemiss’ Harmarjoy Winter Story. Balanced bitch of 8½ years, dark eye and gentle feminine expression, lovely head, good feet and bone, ideal body proportions, lovely angles front and rear, sound top-line, well bent stifles, she moved out freely with good reach and drive, presented in excellent coat, BVIS.

2. Burrows’ Dilworthey Princess Lottie VW. Another lovely veteran lady of 9½ years, such a pretty feminine head with a lovely expression, appealing dark eye, good bone and feet, she had a good depth of chest and correct length and shape of rib, presented in beautiful coat, she just wasn’t as animated on the move as 1.

1. Heffernan’s Lisartan Texas. 16 months, masculine head and expression, broad skull, strong, deep muzzle and dark eye, liked his front and rear assembly and he produced a lovely outline on the move, good legs, bone and feet, ideal tail set and carriage, he moved out with an easy stride free stride, RBD.

2. Middlemiss/Brown’s Harmarjoy You’re My Love JW. 17 months and more my type, masculine strong head with a lovely expression, dark eye and excellent pigment, good feet and bone, lovely front and rear angulation, he had good depth to his chest and was well ribbed with short loin, balanced all through, again another who lacked animation today, having judged this dog before I know he can move better.

1. Warden’s Holinbrae Zoom Time at Glentochty. 22 months, strong masculine head with a lovely dark eye and gorgeous expression, good feet and bone, he was soundly constructed all through with a firm top-line, good front and rear assembly with strong quarters, good depth and shape of rib and he was presented in excellent condition, moved out on a free and easy stride.

2. McGugan’s Westlow The Legend of Fingal to Invergoil Culzean. 22 months who was a little overdone all through for me, strong masculine head with kind expression, he had a good depth of chest, good feet and bone but not the shoulder of 1, firm top-line and good tail carriage, he moved out ok.

LD 7(1)

1. Lewis’ Fairwinds In Space Man JW. This male of 2 years caught my eye for his balanced free movement, lovely masculine head with a kind expression and dark eye, would like a better bite, he looked well in outline both standing and moving, strong neck into a good shoulder assembly, he was well ribbed back albeit slightly long in body for me, he had a good depth of chest, good feet and bone, so sound and free on the move,

Another lovely boy of 7 years although I preferred the overall head proportions of 1, masculine head with kind expression, he had lovely angulation front and rear and was deep in chest, ideal body proportions and good bend of stifle, sound in top-line, he moved out well and was presented in lovely condition, lovely temperament.

3. Burrows’ Dilworthey Secret Santa.

1. McAlpine’s Lampcien Full O’Charm. Very feminine youngster of just 6 months, head developing well, needs to come up on leg, good neck and shoulder and nice body proportions, sound top-line and well bent stifle, she moved out well for such a baby with lovely reach and drive, just needs to be more accurate which will come with maturity, a promising baby, BPB & BPIS.

2. Clarkson’s Drumkilty Nollaig Shona. I really liked this bitch of 7 months and she was more my type, feminine head developing well with gorgeous expression, liked her better length of leg and ticked many boxes for me, lovely body proportions, strong neck and shoulder, her handler struggled to move her today making it difficult for me to assess her movement.
