I would like to extend my thanks to the officers and committee of Consett Canine Society for the opportunity to judge the gundog group and Best in Show at their March show, it was a privilege. My thanks also to the exhibitors for accepting my decisions in a very sportsmanlike manner.

Rafters Rafscoc Annie get Ya Gun: Kerry Blue.
This lady caught my eye as she entered the ring blue in colour with free powerful movement, alert as she moved around the ring. Deep in chest, short coupled with a level topline, presented a balanced picture in profile, balanced in her lean head with perfectly placed ears. A worthy winner.
Reserve best In show: Holmes Ch Lisjovia Estevez Jw SHCM ShCEx. Pyrenean Mountain Dog.
Powerful dog, with strong but not coarse head, dark in eye, strong neck into shoulder, close to the body, deep in chest with good extension to the rear, a curving topline, well developed muscular thighs, double dewclaws, moved freely on compact feet.

Riley’s Jasrolyn Doe Ray Me among Wylloh. Golden Retriever
Pretty girl, just about correct level of maturity for age, pleasing head with a gentle expression, balanced in head, dark eye. Good length of neck, Balanced fore & aft, level topline, tail straight off the topline, which she used well on the move. Moved out with drive, a happy show girl round catlike feet.

Upstanding handsome male, symmetrical in outline, covered the ring with ease, sloping shoulders, with straight bone good depth of chest.

This boy could not be denied this award, he gave the impression of a dog who could work all day typical in head, soft in expression, he typifies strength – in bone & in muscle. deep in chest, almost square in appearance, long in thigh with strong well-developed muscle, which he used to cover the ground in his extended trotting action, he needed the big ring and he used it.

Powerful looking dog almost square in outline, a little heavier than I would have liked, typical in head, oval bone, balanced in front & rear, strength in his loin, slight slope in topline, moved out well, but moved better in the gundog group where there was more space for him to get into his extended trot
2nd Pearson’s Kelevra Covo Di Ladri JW
Feminine, with correct overall shape, and in profile. Typical head for breed, just did not have the muscle condition of one, moved ok

Of medium build, still a youngster, good straight bone in the fore and aft, well-muscled with good feet, was a little unsettled on the move

Good head carriage, pleasing in head, well placed shoulders from a long muscular neck, deep brisket, length of back ok, tail never stopped as he moved around the ring, presented in well-muscled condition.

1st Scott’s Scokira Emerald Dream, Still a youngster, a little loose in overall construction, but this will change with time, balanced in outline, gently sloping topline , pretty head , moderate length of neck and shoulders sloping well back . Moved ok

Caught my eye on entering the ring, masculine in head, with a kindly soft expressive expression, balanced in outline, exhibiting good depth and width of chest, Short-coupled. Excellent bone, tight, well-padded feet. Moved best in the class.
2nd Foster’s Rochevale Beal
At just over 6 months, presented well again gentle in expression on a masculine had, well developed for age, straight in bone, barrelled ribs, with good padded feet, just didn’t move as well as one.

A well-made bitch, of good proportions, clean and strong in neck, well placed shoulders, level topline, short coupled, well-set tail and moved well.
2nd Scrimgeour’s Velvetine Willow
Another well-made bitch, broad in skull with defined stop, but her expression changes when she drops her ears, well turned in stifle, with well let down hocks.

Masculine in head but a kindly expression, clean in neck, balanced fore & aft, straight in bone, chest deep with plenty of width, level topline short coupled, well developed 2nd thigh.
2nd Robert’s Stormrose sweet wishes
Feminine in outline, for me her head was just a little too narrow, decent in body, a little softer in topline than one, moved ok.

Head correctly shaped with moderate stop, would have liked a slightly better shoulder placement, short in back, stifles well bent, slight tuck up moved ok.

Feminine medium sized bitch, correct head, presented a balanced outline, level topline, well sprung in rib well bent in stifle, moved with reach and rear drive, well coated with white tips. Just drew your eye on the move.

Well-developed head, with chiselling, well set ears with silky hair, topline with even slope, moved out merrily, well presented.

Not as well presented as one which affected the overall picture, topline a bit more exaggerated than I would like as it affected the movement.

Pretty head, well arched neck would like a bit more in the shoulder, short coupled, move with drive, for me just a little heavy.

1st Nesbitt’s Creeark Austin Healy from Chabrouille
This dog had classic clumber head, large and square, good length of neck, well-muscled, with well-developed 2nd thigh, gave the impression he could do a day’s work. Balanced for & aft and moved out with drive on round padded feet.
2nd Pickering’s Wymeswold Verdejo at Greencourt (imp NLD)
Pretty head, but for me I would have like a little more neck to complete a balanced picture, moved ok but was hampered by a little too much weight.

Well-developed head although a little long in foreface, with chiselling, well set ears with silky hair, balanced Fore & Aft, moved out merrily.
2nd Fairhurst’s Valefell frosty starlight
Just a baby here, square in outline, feminine in head, although well coated, the coat needs time to develop.

Balanced square cocker, pleasing in head, although balanced fore & aft, not quite the desired angles, tail set a little low

Well presented, certainly presented the picture of the merry cocker the tail never stopped. Of balanced construction, typical cocker head with dark eye, compact in body, well off for bone. muscular rounded hindquarters which allowed for strong ground covering movement.
2nd MacFarlane’s Cooleela Electra
A little long in the leg, which suggested an unbalanced picture, level topline, thick padded feet, moved ok.

1st Calvert’s Calvdale with respect
Such a well-made puppy, everything in moderation, masculine in head such kind expression from his dark eye. Strong in bone, straight forelegs, chest deep for one so young, strong in neck with good length, shoulder placement gave him the ability to move straight from his shoulder and his hock drove from behind, a bright future for him.
2nd Calvert’s Calvdale Dramatic effect
Slighter in frame than one, but still with a balanced outline, pleasing head with well set ears. Moved out well, just not the finish of one.

Classic balanced outline, pleasing in head good length of leg, straight and well boned, a little throaty I felt, but moved well, forelegs straight from his shoulders, driving from behind on strong hocks.

Well made, upstanding, head high in dome, with good length and width of muzzle, strong and well set in to shoulders, good straight bone, short coupled, well angulated in the rear, but balanced with front, coat as I would have expected, tight crisp curls no wooliness, moved soundly around the ring.
2nd Foody’s Kendenner Lousia at Caireila
As I discovered father and daughter, many of the comments apply, well presented, but topline just let him down on the move.

9 months of age, good colour and coat, strongly build, so happy on the move, good length of nock and body, moved out with a distinctive roll.

Wide in head but balanced, low set-in ear, slightly arched long neck on sloping shoulders, straight deep body, carried low to the ground, move out well with distinctive roll, but at the wrong pace tended to pin in at front.

Typical head for breed, long muscular neck, no sign of throatiness, balanced body with deep brisket, straight strong bone, well developed second thigh, correct bend of stifle here, well-padded catlike feet, moved well.

1st Balmer Trapaleba Dior
11-month-old bitch, medium size of good proportions, aristocratic in head, legs strong and straight, level topline with slight slope towards the croup, moderately angled in stifle, rear muscle developing in line with age, compact feet, moved well.
2nd Roberson’s Kalimor Washington at Robricci
Well-built male although a little throaty, neck moderately long, well developed in chest, but posture was affected by the owner constantly rubbing the coat the wrong way, causing the topline to droop, not to mention the discomfort for the dog, good bend of stifle, moved ok.

Lovely outline, good body and height ratio, deep in chest well off for bone, moderate angulation fore & aft, well developed 2nd thigh, effortlessly moving around, d the ring.

Well proportioned, deep in chest, although a little loose at elbow, firm in loin although had a tendency to rise, reasonably well developed in muscle moved ok.

Robust, good overall balance, head correct breed type with no visible haugh, coat well curled over a level back, moderately angled fore & aft, tight feet, moved briskly with drive.

Very fine all over and in bone, with an exaggerated tuck up, firm back, good length of neck, sloping shoulders, gave the handler a hard time.
