Carluke & District Canine Society

Breed: Gordon Setter

Candice Parker-Smith (Bratticus)

I would like to offer my gratitude to Mr David Alcorn and the hardworking committee of Carluke & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge at this super open show. It was particularly well organised, had a lovely, welcoming atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Also, many thanks to my two very organised stewards, Richard Ravell and Alison Carmichael for keeping me in order throughout my judging.

Special Yearling D/B: 4 entries (2 abs)

1. Miss L Tait’s FORESTER’S NORTHERN LIGHTS OF DARKMOOR AT MUCKHART JW (IMPDEU) (D) What a handsome boy with a lovely head and strong topline for such a youngster at 20 months. Very happy travelling round the ring with free-moving action and drive from behind. Super head with expressive eyes. Shoulders sloping well with good bone on forelegs. Ribs well sprung. Neat, oval feet. Hindquarter muscles developing well for his age. Looking forward to watching this young man mature. Went RBOB.

2. Ms P Gray’s KATTANDALE BLAC HAWKE’S BAY AT BIRNIEHILL (AI) (B) Very pretty young lady at 19 months, with elbows well let down and straight boned forelegs set from a sloping shoulder. Would like to see more drive from behind which will strengthen the second thigh too, as she matures.

Post Graduate D/B: 3 entries (1 abs)

1. J & G Brown’s MOSSCRIPT PORT ELLEN (B) Soft expression on a lovely head, set on a good neck. Level topline with good spring of rib. Moved better when going forward with more drive.

2. Mr D McNeil’s WOODLAND HOPPERS EVENING STAR OVER BARRABRAE (IMP HRV) (B) This girl was rather nervous with today being her first time out in a while. She has a lovely head and well angled sloping shoulders into strong forelegs. She has a good bend at the stifle and is well muscled on the hindquarters, which showed in her movement, once she settled and relaxed more.

Limit D/B: 2 entries

1. Mr A & Mrs F Hogg’s GAILIECH NGALYOD (D) This lovely boy has a good topline, seen when moving also, from a strong head and neck. He has good shoulder angulation, straight, well boned forelegs and well sprung ribs. Moves with drive. Handler needs to not stretch him out too much as this hides his straight topline.

2. Mr L & Mrs E Monro’s PANTHERA BAD MEDICINE DULMAUR (IMP POL) (B) Feminine head on this girl with soft expression. Nice spring of rib. Has good feet and moves well but would prefer move bend at stifle so topline is not arched.

Open D/B: 6 entries (3 abs)

1. Mr D & Mrs L Millar, Miss L Millar & Mr D Sobie’s YENNADON CALVAY JW (D) Have watched this boy grow and mature over the last few years. He has a soft, expressive head with good angulation to his shoulders into well boned forelegs. His topline is straight and he is well sprung in ribs. When he moves, he is utilitarian, getting the job done, but is steady and free with drive from behind. Went BOB. Shortlisted to final 8 in gundog group.

2. Mr L & Mrs E Monro’s HERWOOD NORTHERN ADONIS OF DULMAUR (D) Lovely soft expression on a strong head. Well boned from sound shoulders. Good spring of rib. Moved well in the ring just a little unsettled when showing.

3. Mr D Mcneil’s LACHMHOR SINCERELY YOURS AT BARRABRAE (IMP HRV) (B).
