Perthshire Canine Club
PERTH CC Open show 4 May 2024; Gundogs and Shetland Sheepdogs.
I would like to thank the Committee for their kind invitation to judge and for the wonderful hospitality and lovely gift. Also thanks to the exhibitors for their entries and sportsmanship and to my hard working steward. The Scots know how to put on an excellent show.
Shetland Sheepdogs, My first time judging this lovely breed that I have admired for many years.
Grad, (4) 1st BPIB Saunders Leterikhills river star over Torriglen, pretty puppy with nice wedge shaped head of correct proportions, kind eye and expression, good reach of neck, well laid shoulders, deep chest, good rear, level topline and well set tail, moved well, in good coat.
2nd Babik Donallin running bear at Egalefalls, just slightly preferred overall head shape of 1st but a quality dog, has good shoulders, chest and rib, level topline and moved well. 3rd Purves Donnalin pennhy arcade.
Open (3) 1st and BOB Saunders Galateus bohemia classic at Torriglen imp cze, very well coated chap with good head shape and kind eye and good ears. Would benefit from little less neck coat as he looks stuffy but not when you get hands on him as he has good reach of neck, good through body fore and aft, level topline with correct tailset. Smart mover. 2nd Brodies Shanburn la ve est belle, pretty girl, correct wedge head and soft eye and good ears, not quite the body of 1st but close up, moved well with level topline and well set tail, in good coat and condition. 3rd Purves Donallin Dream girl.
English Springer Spaniel, Open (3, 2a) 1sr and BOB Stevensons Peasblossom brogan at Gaolachcara, stood alone but a worthy winner, handsome lad with pleasing head and expression, good front assembly with well placed shoulders and good depth of rib, well developed hindquarters and well muscled up, flashy mover and was shortlisted in a strong gundog group.
GWP, Open (1) 1st and BOB , and BIS, O’Briens Caldewriver storm n teacup for Katillien, Gorgeous girl, feminine balanced head with good eye, correct body proportions, deep chest and well laid shoulders leading to well muscled hindquarters ,well off for bone and substance, really came alive on the move showing drive from strong hocks, so pleased to see she went onto BIS , well done.
Golden Retrievers, Junior (3, 1a). Russells Grasslands field of gold, preferred her head and rear to second place, pleasing head and eye, good bite, good length of neck, deep through body, holds nice outline stacked and moving, in good coat and condition. 2nd Goods Terra di siena lady lay at Fhairmhor, very feminine girl who on the day lacked the body of first and appeared a bit rangy, but still lots to like, nice head and soft expression, in good bloom, held topline and happy on the move.
Grad (5, 2a) 1st Field of gold, previous class. 2nd Wardens Holinbrae zoom time at Glentochy, handsome lad, well balanced, good neck and shoulders, good depth of chest but on the day I preferred the head of 1st but was a close call. well muscled second thigh and he moved out well holding topline. 3rd Wallis Lamancha roll on good times. Completed a quality trio.
Open (4, 1a) 1st and BOB, Wardens Noblemoon take the high road to Glentochty, handsome mid gold chap with pleasing head and expression, correct front leading to well muscled up hindquarters, so balanced, moved out with drive whilst holding compact outline. Shown in lovely condition. Was thrilled to see him later win Group 2 under a Goldie specialist.
2nd Wallis Blue gemstone katrina at Camellis, different type to winner but lots to like, good body proportions, good length of leg and depth of chest, not as positive as 1st on move today, well muscled rear, in lovely bloom. 3rd Russells Grasstards call me madam.
Weimaraner. Quality entry. Junior (2). 2 lovely puppies to start off with, litter mates.
1st BPIB Sayer and Wallworks Braefell Blackthorn, stunning young boy, classic head piece, clean through neck and shoulders,good angles fore and aft, correct body proportions and held a lovely balanced outline, developing nicely in body, well muscled up and moved with purpose. Have heard since he has won a rcc, well done. Went onto puppy group 3 later. 2nd Braefell Briar, sister of 1st and a feminine version of him but at this stage not so mature in body and a little unsteady on the move, ( difficulties of being in same class as they wanted to play) pretty head, clean neck, good shoulders, presents a lovely outline, also good angles. Will change places many times Im sure.
Grad (6, 3a) Challenging class as to start with all were unsettled on the initial run round.
1st Maclain and Dickson Greyspirit Mystique JW, CWJ22, liked her head and eye, pleasing expression, clean neck, well laid shoulders, strong back and presented good profile, well balanced, got her act together and moved better as class went on. 2nd Cairns Lamarg Silver huntsman, heavier in type than some but showing power and strength, For me has a strong backskull but head is ok otherwise, good neck, has depth of chest and well ribbed up, strong back and moved well to secure his place. Certainly, fit for function. 3rd Jamieson Greyspirit kept me waiting.
Open (12, 5a) Stunning class, not enough cards to give out. 1st Maclaine and Dickson Greyspirit hopes n dreams JW SHCEX, classy girl, liked her overall balance and outline, everything in proportion, pleasing head, good ear set and kind eye, clean neck , well laid shoulders and good depth of chest, well ribbed and strong rear, moved well covering ground. Later went group 4.
2nd Charlish Gunalt the Hangover JW, Liked this lad a lot and he was just pipped today on maturity but feel he has a very bright future ahead, handsome classic head, presented a good outline with correct body proportions, deep chest and well ribbed, strong back and good topline, well off for bone, moved with drive. 3rd Sayer and Wallwork Braefell Bumblebee, mum to pups and passing on her qualities. Completed a lovely trio but for me head was a little plainer than first 2 today, but still a lovely girl with balanced outline.
GSP. Grad (2, 1a) 1st BPIB Dodds Lagopusmoor black mandala, smart puppy, pretty head, good body proportions, well balanced and held outline stacked and moving. Well handled. Later won Puppy group 2.
Open (2, 1a) 1st and BOB Dodds Jhebrons jeno via Elfindew, bit strong in head for my taste but he has good body, good length of neck, strong back, shown in good condition, capable of a days work.
Gordon Setters. Junior (3) 1st Greens Balnakeil Creag Raininch, Racy girl who won class on more maturity at this stage, nice head, clean neck, well laid shoulders, moved well holding outline, in good coat. 2nd Mcfarlanes Ardnadam willow coppice, slightly smaller than 1st but has a lovely head and expression, kind eye, tended to pace at start of moving but did collect herself and moved true with good outline. 3rd Miller Cafotaliena heart of a hero.
Open (6,1a) 1st and BOB Millars Sh Ch Yannadon Benriach JW SHcex, lovely chap of 7 years, whom I judged up here as a junior and predicted great things for him. He didn’t disappoint. Classic head, Good neck, sloping shoulders, good rib and strong rear. Moved out well holding outline and in fabulous coat, was shortlisted in group later. 2nd Millers Yennadon Calvay JW, just pipped by half brother, but another quality dog, very similar remarks to 1st but didn’t move quite as well but it was a close call. Shown in lovely condition. 3rd Bell and Millars Balnakeil Beinn Corradail of Blairbelles.
