ENGLISH SETTERS

I would like to thank the Society for their kind invitation to judge English Setters at their December show and it was an honour to accept. I would also like to thank my Steward for managing the ring so well for me, and most of all, my grateful thanks to all the competitors who came to the show in pretty miserable weather. I wish them all well in future shows.

Puppy 2/0

1: Welburn's OSHOWA JUST A DREAM 8 month old Blue Belton bitch - this young lady has good angulation front and rear, nice tight feet, good top line leading to a lovely tail set, good bend of stifle. Face on she has a gorgeous kind expression, ears set low on the head. Well off for bone, deep into the chest; good second thigh for the age. Not completely comfortable yet in the show ring, but this will come with experience, and she moved with purpose and coped reasonably well with the smooth shiny floor. BPIB

2: Welburn's OSHOWA LOVE TO DREAM 8 month old Blue Belton bitch, sister to number 1, very little to choose between them at this stage physically - perhaps marginally less angulation and muscled at the rear and a little straigher at the stifle. Coped less well with the shiny floor surface and was generally less composed. All to play for in the future though.

Junior 2/1

1: Hutchinson & Dennis' MARIGLEN MY HEART WILL GO ON WITH MONAYSBRIDGE 16 month old Blue Belton bitch: beautifully presented in fine coat, stood nicely with good angulation front and rear; nice tight feet, tail set well straight off top line; moved confidently and with poise around the slippery ring. She's well put together overall, stands out and I'm sure she will have a bright future. RBOB

2: Corfield, Corfield, Derry and Shoneville's BALVENIE LOCH MARIE 17 month Orange Belton bitch: well presented, good bone and muscle throughout, tight paws and good angulation, unsettled however and did not move true today on the slippery surface - was going somewhat sideways, and gave her handler a hard time. Lost out as a result.

Post Graduate 1/2

1: Hutchinson & Dennis' MARIGLEN MY HEART WILL GO ON WITH MONAYSBRIDGE

Open 1/2

1: Loakes' SH CH GOLDBIRCH HEARTS DESIRE JW ShCEx Outstanding 3 1/2 year old Blue Belton bitch; presented in smashing coat. Strong neck set on excellent well laid back shoulders, on a beautiful level top line with tail set perfectly in line with the back; good bend of stifle, nice tight paws, movement supremely confident and true on the slippery surface. A real head turner, and I was delighted to award her a well deserved BOB
