CAMBUSLANG CANINE CLUB OPEN SHOW.        26th May 2024

Hounds;

Beagle Grad (3-1)

1st & BOB McEwans Janfrey Valentino

Sturdy, strong male who was up to size. Correct proportions to his head. Long ears. Well balanced. Short pasterns. Moved soundly and maintained his topline.

2nd Kilgours’ Kelcardi Claudia

Feminine girl, a little longer through her loin than 1st . Good spring of rib. Correct bone. Good rear angulation. Moved well in profile.

Beagle Open (2-1)

1st McEwans Janfrey Valentino

Basenji Grad (0)

Basenji Open (1)

1st & BOB Jardines Ch Tadrose North Star

Red bitch with very attractive dark almond eye and super intelligent expression. – I felt like I was the one being judged! In her prime and with excellent breed type. Good length of neck, let into well placed shoulder. Good spring of rib. Correct tail. Moved with an easy flowing stride.

Afghan Hound Grad (1)

1st & BOB & HG 2 Nisbet, Forrester & Smiths Finix Just A Girl (AI)

Quality feminine 16 months B & T girl who is just my cup of tea. Lovely head shape. Good neck let into well placed shoulder. Super correct topline with prominent pinbones, finished off with ringed tail. Good bone and pasterns. Excellent sweep from hip to hock. A particularly good typey mover, she used everything on the move today and was sound as a pound. Pushed the hound group winner hard. Will be watching out for this one.

Afghan Hound Open (2)

1st Nisbet, Forrester & Smiths Finix Just A Girl (AI)

2nd Hunters Neptune De Koulanger at Sulahmara JW (IMP FRA)

I last judged this gold dog as a puppy and it’s very clear that although he has grown a lovely mandarin beard and was put down in super cot, he is, at almost 7 years, still a puppy at heart! Good neck let into well laid shoulder. Well sprung ribbing and correct loin. Excellent topline. Ringed tail. Enjoyed himself on the move!

Basset Open (3-1)

1st & BOB Johnstons Burnvale Black Diamond JW

These two girls were litter sisters but very different. I preferred the head and front on this girl, which is what won her the class. Good bone. Excellent tail set. Moved with drive.

2nd Burnvale Queen Of Diamonds JW

This girl was shorter coupled than the winner and had slightly better rear angulation than her sister. Wasn’t quite so effective on the move.

Dachs (Mini Wire) Open (3-1)

1st & BOB Kirkwoods Helydon Vexy Vixen

This pretty baby, not long out of puppy, beat her mother to take the class and BOB. A pretty head but with more furnishings to come. Good neck set into well laid shoulders. Good ribbing. Shorter coupled than her dam. Moved soundly and used herself well.

2nd Kirkwoods Helydon Quickstep Queeni

Another girl of quality. Well-made throughout, although slightly longer than her daughter. She wasn’t happy today and as a result, didn’t use herself properly. Another day perhaps.

Dachs (Smooth) Open (2-1)

1st & BOB & HG 3 Balfours Clentry Mango Passion

I really liked this red girl who stood alone but had just about everything in the right place. Excellent angulation front and rear. Correct length through both ribbing and loin. Just enough prosternum. Well set on tail, and she used everything on the move. Sound coming and going with a lovely free action in profile. Close behind the whippet and Afghan hound for her Group 3. Well done!

AVNSC Hound Open (3)

1st & Best AVNSC & HG 4 Hound Open Macleans Deerhound Orge Et Mlt D’Escalgrain (Imp Fra)

Well-made deerhound girl with a typical head shape, small fine ears. Strong neck, let into well placed shoulder. Correct length and spring to her ribbing. Correct topline with arch to her loin which led into broad well angulated rear quarters. Moved soundly with a long stride but needed more space. Would like to see her in a larger ring.

2nd Bains Mini S/H Dachs Clentry Rewrite The Stars

Attractive head shape on this feminine girl who is well angulated front and rear. Correct balance and of a nice size. Moved soundly coming and going and very well in profile but really doesn’t do her handler any favours at all. Still, that doesn’t hide the fact that she is so well made, and today gave just enough.

3rd Morrin & Barbi’s Bav Mountain Hound Donard Dream For Arlatdax (IKC)

AV Hound Import Reg Open (0)

AV Hound Puppy (10-5)

1st & Best AVNSC Hound Puppy Brooks Whippet Collooney For Your Eyes Only

This boy was a little unsettled on the table initially. Lovely shape to him. Attractive head. Well balanced with good angulation front and rear. Excellent depth of chest for his age. Short hocks. Nice feet. Moved well coming and going and well in profile.

2nd Hutchinsons Whippet Zenobia Just An Illusion With Sweetaurora

This boy was built on a finer, more racey frame than 1st Good depth of chest and length of loin. Correct topline which he maintained on the move. Drove out well from his hocks. I just preferred the neck and shoulder on 1st but they both should do well.

3rd Jollys Rhodesian Ridgeback Priorpark William Wallace For Clanbruachan

AV Hound Veteran (4)

1st & Best AV Hound Veteran Brooks Whippet Rushden Hello Look At Me

At 7 years old this boy was looking very well. Attractive head with good underjaw. Well-made throughout with good angles front and rear. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Moved well and with drive.

2nd Jardines Basenji Woodella Hot Rod

At 9 ½ this basenji boy was looking very good for his age. A little strong for me, he had a nice expression and correct set on ears. Well angulated front with rear angulation to match. Nice feet and nails. Short hocks. Moved well in profile and maintained his topline.

3rd Webbs Crosscop Somebody To Love

HOUND GROUP

1ST Whippet - Hunters Collooney Was Meant To Be At Sulahmara

I have judged this boy before and really liked him then, but on the day, he would not cooperate with his handler. However, today he was on form, working with his handler and together they made a super picture. Everything in balance, correct angulation and size, elegance and grace of outline, all in a package which came together on the move. Sound, true and effortless. Could not be denied the top spot for me in a small but strong hound group. Well done – your patient persistence paid off!
