SOUTH YORKSHIRE HOUND SOCIETY OPEN SHOW

Deerhounds and Greyhounds

Sunday 14th July 2024

Thank you to the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at this lovely premier show. There was a fabulous atmosphere, the committee and stewards (particularly the two dedicated to this ring) could not have been more helpful, and we were all so lucky as the weather held out until almost the end of the day.

DEERHOUNDS:

Puppy (1-1)

Junior (0)

Post Grad (1-1)

Open (2-1)

1st & BOB = Anderson, White & Andersons Humbiehounds Velvet Tattie

Attractive boy, a few months short of his second birthday. Stood alone but represented his breed well and was very pleasing to go over. Excellent balance throughout. Reachy neck set into well laid-back shoulders. Good topline and underline with correct arch over the loin. Enough depth of chest and spring of rib. Good sweep to his rear quarters. Well let down hocks. Moved with an easy profile action and sound coming and going.

GREYHOUNDS:

Puppy (3-1)

1st & BPIB = Newshams Frankie Decum Via Windspiel (Imp Cze)

This dark brindle boy at almost 12 months is still very raw and has a way to go maturity wise (of course). I liked his head and expression. Super length of neck which flowed into his shoulders and through to his topline, with an underline to complement. Front and rear angulation was excellent. Short hocks, good pasterns, excellent feet. On the move he was enjoying himself so much, but he gave me enough to appreciate his quality. Will be interesting to see how he matures.

2nd = Cutter & Lubins Ina’s Fashion Halo Over Chosovi (Imp Deu)

Sadly, this pretty 8 months old baby didn’t want to play today, and if I had continued trying to go over her, it might make for a very negative experience for her. But I could see that she was very shapely, balanced front and rear angulation. Good topline, nice feet. Once she gains her confidence, her movement too will reflect this.

Limit (5-4)

1st = Prince & Ballentines Westview Puddles

This brindle girl with white trim had a good length to her neck. Broad and square through her topline and loin. Good spring of rib. Correct length to her pasterns with excellent spring. Broad thighs and short hocks. Well knuckled feet. Moved with purpose. Nicely handled.

Open (7-2)

What a lovely class this was and how lucky was I to have hands on some beautiful Greyhounds? They were all girls and by sheer coincidence, were seen in the order I eventually placed them!

1st & BOB & BIS 3 = Harrison-Stratfords Ch Southpoint Lady Loki at Highwick (Imp Prt)

This beautifully balanced brindle and white girl was my star of the day. At 3 years she is in her prime. Quality from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail and in super condition, she could not be denied. Feminine head and expression. The best of necks set into a laid-back shoulder with good return of upper arm. Flowing topline leading to strong, well angulated, well-muscled rear quarters. Short hocks. Correct pasterns and excellent feet. Put it all together and you have a gorgeous greyhound who looks and moves like she could do the work of her forebears. I had no hesitation in awarding her this class and later BOB. Was delighted later to see her go BIS 3.

2nd & RES BOB & BVIB = Newshams Ch Europa Decuma Via Windspiel (Imp Cze)

This elegant fawn girl was no disgrace to be 2nd in this class. Beautifully correct head and expression atop a long, strong neck, well set into her laid-back shoulders. She flowed through her topline into strong, well angulated rear quarters with well let down hocks. Superb depth of chest and spring of rib. Good pasterns and well knuckled feet. Moved with drive and she is as sound as a pound. Only lost to the younger bitch as 1st had a tighter topline on the move.

3rd = Hills Zoraden Your Precious Love at Shimmeree ShCM VW

Special Open Racing/Lure Coursing (4-2)

1st = Prince & Ballentines Westview Puddles

AS BEFORE

2nd = Sadlers Huarache Mags

This black with white trim girl had a sweet head. Reasonable length of neck and good front angulation. Well ribbed back, with a strong loin. Broad thighs with correct length through the second thigh. Well let down hocks. Good feet and pasterns. A little soft through the topline. Moved ok in profile but a little unsettled on the up and back.
