SOUTH EASTERN HOUND CLUB OPEN SHOW

Sunday 1ST September 2024

Many thanks to the Officers and committee for their invitation to judge at this lovely show. The friendly atmosphere and hardworking stewards made it a really super day for me. It was already very warm by the start of my judging, and I am certain that some of the dogs could change places in different conditions. Overall, I was very fortunate to have some pleasing examples of the breed. Thank you.

Novice (2 - 1 Entries)

1st McCarthys Ehlaradawn Turas

Feminine girl with attractive head. Small fine ears with correct fold. Good length of neck with broad base, set into well laid shoulders. Enough bone for her size and build. Good depth of chest and well ribbed back. Correct length of loin. Broad thighs. Moved well in profile.

Graduate (8 - 4 Entries)

1st Havercrofts Kilbourne Lyrae at Dragonsisle

I liked the overall balance of this 4 year old bitch. Feminine but with substance. Good strong neck. Excellent front and rear angulation. Correct topline with drooping rear quarters. Well ribbed back. Curvy underline to match. Well let down hocks. She was the best overall mover in the class and was sound coming and going.

2nd Edwards Kilbourne Havana With Brackenland

At just 19 months, this young bitch still has some maturing to do. She already has some lovely qualities which couldn’t be overlooked. Excellent front angulation which showed in her beautiful front extension on the move. Well developed through her topline. Good spring of rib but still needs to drop through her chest. Correct length of loin. Short hocks.

3rd Sandells & Lovells Packway Blue Moon

Open Dog (3 -2 Entries)

1st Shannons Packway Downlander At Erewhon

Substantial and masculine dog with typical head and expression. Good length of neck let into well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Straight front. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. A little long through the loin, which made him slightly unbalanced. Broad, well-muscled first thighs with enough angulation. Well let down hocks. Nice feet. Moved with drive.

Open Bitch (12 - 6 Entries)

1st & BOB Edwards Quantastico Lucia to Kilbourne

I really appreciated this two and a half year old bitch who had a beautiful outline. She flowed from her strong neck, right through her topline into her muscular well arched loin and onto broad, wide, drooping rear quarters. Pretty, feminine head with a dark eye, fine ears and an excellent underjaw. Correct, balanced front and rear angulation with good bone and fill in to her front. Excellent depth and spring of rib. Broad first thighs and strong second thigh leading into well let down hocks. She moved as I knew she would and did herself proud in the BIS ring despite the heat!

2nd Res BOB Spring-Arnolds Hyndsight Only In My Dreams

Another quality bitch from the top drawer. A little more maturity and substance than the winner, but with much of the same attributes. Excellent, balanced outline with good bone and correct feet. 1st had slightly better depth and spring of rib. There was very little difference in movement too – both had an easy, active profile action and were both sound and true on the up and back. Two lovely classic bitches.

3rd Lucas & Dargonnes Packway Ecotrailer

Sadly Mary Sanders-Parker was unable to attend her appointment, so I was asked to judge her very nice entry of hounds.

BORZOI

Junior (1 Entry)

1st & BOB Odells Sukeshi Tsarina Alexandra

Classy 16 months old borzoi bitch who is maturing nicely. Long head with dark almond eye and small fine ears. Long, broad based neck set into well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Bladed bone in correct proportion to her height. Good depth of brisket and tuck up. Broad, well-muscled thighs leading to well let down hocks. She drove well from behind and had good extension when viewed in profile.

GREYHOUND

Junior (2 Entries)

Goodness, what a lovely litter – four of six youngsters entered from one litter were here in these classes and they were so even that there was really very little to choose between them! I had to nit pick my decisions.I will be watching their futures with much interest.

1st Sawers Boughton Back On Top

Brother and sister here and very little between them both. So well balanced. Long neck set into well laid shoulder with excellent return of upper arm. Straight front with correctly sprung pasterns. Flowing topline leading into broad slightly arched loin. excellent rear angulation with well let down hocks.

2nd Balls Boughton Back In Time

Feminine version of the brother with much of the same conformation. She was just a shade more finished than her brother, who won this class on his depth of chest and had slightly better movement in front than his sister. I am sure they will change places often.

Graduate (4 -1 Entry)

1st Boggias Boughton Back For Good

Another sister arrived in this class and beat her brother – This girl flowed through her neck into her shoulders. Excellent and well balanced angulation front and rear and lovely straight, well filled in front. Broad thighs with no exaggeration through the second thigh. Lovely feet and pasterns. Movement was just a little more decisive than her brothers, which is what won her this class.

2nd Sawers Boughton Back On Top

 (As Above)

3rd Boggias Boughton Back For More

Limit (3 -1 Entry)

1st & BOB Boggia & Grahams Rubicons Songbird By Boughton (Imp USA)

Feminine, mature, well balanced, elegant girl who flows from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. Her neck oozes into her well laid-back shoulders with barely a hair out of place. Her spring of rib and depth of chest are well proportioned and follow through to her powerful loin. Broad first thigh and strong, well boned second thigh moving into well let down hocks. Well filled in front and then when she moves, uses it all to advantage. Straight, low and free with excellent drive. In spite of the heat! No hesitation in awarding her BOB.

2nd Res BOB Boggias Boughton Back For Good

(As Above)

Open (1 Entry)

1st Holder & Boggias Fionn Clan Bluebelle (Imp Rus)

This feminine girl had a pretty head and was built on a finer frame. Super length to her neck with a broad base. Good topline. Fair spring of rib and depth of chest. Correct length and slight arch to her loin. Curvy underline. Balanced angulation front and rear. Bladed bone and well sprung pasterns. Slight convergence in front on the move but sound going away.

Special Racing/Lure Coursing (3-3 Entries)

SLOUGHI

Open (2 – 1 Entries)

1st & BOB & BIS Woodgate, Boggia & De-Souzas Xandu Khan Schuru-Esch-Schams (Imp)

Correct refined, wedge shaped head with dark eye, classic expression and strong underjaw. His strong neck led into a correct topline with short broad loin. Excellent underline. Angulation front and rear are well balanced. In profile movement he had an easy action without exaggeration. Went on to win BIS – Congratulations.

SPECIAL AV PUPPY CHARITY STAKES (9 – 8 Entries)

1st Holloways Aksaifleet Daydream Diana (Basenji)

7 months old bitch who was very ‘together’. Pretty correct shaped head with a dark almond eye and intelligent expression. Hooded ears. Light footed and fine boned. Good feet and pasterns. Well let down hocks. Good front and rear angulation which she used well on the move. Looked very nice in profile.

SPECIAL AV OPEN CHARITY STAKES (10 – 7 Entries)

1st Storey, Storey & Piehls Ch Kiromol Heaven Can Wait (AI) (Rhodesian Ridgeback)

Handsome, quality male who I was not surprised to read later, already has his title. Masculine head with correct underjaw. Excellent eye and ear set. Long neck, broad at the base giving him strength. Excellent layback of shoulder with correct return of upper arm. Rear quarters to match. Deep capacious chest with correct spring of rib leading into a strong slightly arched loin. Super feet and pasterns. Used all of his conformation on the move, which was sound on the up and back, with great drive and reach in profile.

2nd Stranges Bronias Armand At Cazdachs (Mini Sm Dachs)

Very attractive head on this mini smooth boy with correct planes and a well shaped eye. Ears were set on high. Good spring of rib. Correct length of loin which was slightly arched. Strong, sound mover on the up and back with good extension and drive in profile. Went very well, considering that by now it was very hot indeed.

3rd Hawkins Martinks Storm In A Teacup for Lonaza

SPECIAL AV GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME STAKES (9 – 6 Entries)

1st Boggias Boughton Back For More (Greyhound)

This quality girl was 3rd in Greyhound Graduate, she didn’t want to play then and so was beaten by her sister and brother. In this class she decided to cooperate and was the better for it. Best of necks, let into excellent layback of shoulder. Super houndy topline. Front and rear angulation was balanced and correct. Good spring to her pastern and nice feet. Well let down hocks. Moved so well in profile and sound on the up and back.

2nd Longhursts Abbeyhurst Dancing Queen JW (Whippet)

Quality girl with a super topline. Elegant head set onto a good broad-based neck. Her underline complimented her topline. Broad thighs. Bladed bone. Excellent feet and pasterns. Well let down hocks. She moved with drive from behind and totally sound on the up and back. Lovely coat, skin and condition.

3rd Meads Rockanor Silver Saphire at Jasbri (Whippet)

SPECIAL JUNIOR STAKES (6 – 4 Entries)

1st Walkers Runaround Rosetta of Shoalingam (Whippet)

Pretty feminine girl with fine ears and correct shape to her skull. Good length of neck set into well laid back shoulders with good return of upper arm. Good feet and pasterns. Correct bone. Well let down hocks. Moved well in profile.

2nd Boggias Boughton Back In Style (Greyhound)

Another quality girl from the same litter as previously, with so many of the same attributes it would be fruitless to point them out again. However, she was not so comfortable on the move as her siblings had been, and was tangled and tripped over her tail a couple of times. She needs more time than her brothers and sisters.

AV OPEN STAKES (22 – 17 Entries)

1st Spring-Arnolds Hyndsight Only In My Dreams (Deerhound)

(As Above)

2nd Williams Tigsisle Its About Time (Whippet)

Well balanced, shapely girl with very attractive headpiece. Correct set on to her long neck. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. Her topline and underline complemented one another. Straight front with correct bone. Well let down hocks which she drove off on the move. Sound coming and going with good extension in front.
