Chippenham & District Canine Society
Judge’s Critique For Chippenham & DCS Open Show 7/4/24
Although scheduled, unfortunately the societies’ weighing scales didn’t make it to the show, so unfortunately, I was not able to weigh the mini dachshunds.
Many thanks to my hardworking stewards Debs and Helen. Without these hardworking people, there can be no shows!
Dachshunds (L/H) Post Grad (1 – 1 Abs)
Dachshunds (L/H) Open (0 Entries)
Dachshunds (S/H) Puppy (1 Entries)
1st & BP & Res BOB=Rycrofts Carpaccio Queen Consult For Trisensara
11 months old B & T girl who is maturing up nicely. Attractive head with correct eye shape. Long neck set into clean shoulders, Excellent topline. Well angulated front and rear. Moved well and with drive. Kept her topline on the move.
Dachshunds (S/H) Post Grad (2 Entries)
1st = Rycrofts Fantastic Frank at Trisensara
This red male was nicely made, of good breed type. Slightly shorter coupled than 2nd Good prosternum and well angulated front and rear. Good bone and feet. Moved well in profile.
2nd = Hockings Longmel Caprice Truffle
Slightly more substantial and longer than 1st, this red boy still had a lot to like. His angulation told me he would move well – and he did exactly as I expected! Excellent topline. Handler was a little nervous. Have confidence in your boy!
Dachshunds (S/H) Open (4 Entries – 1Abs)
1st & BOB = Rycrofts Jacksondax Hornet Hurrah at Trisensara
B & T boy who, coming and going, was the soundest mover. He flowed through from nose to tail and had excellent angulation front and rear. Looked very good in profile. Well presented.
2nd = Hunts Carpaccio Red Knight
I liked this young red dog. He has a quality about him that I really enjoyed. Lovely head and neck and well laid shoulders. Correct length to body but needs to use it all to best advantage. Once he gets his head into the game, he will do well!
3rd = Hockings Longmel Caprice Truffle
Dachshunds (W/H) Puppy (1 Entries)
1st & BP = Sanders Knottrose Olaf
7 months old baby who is still pretty raw (as he should be)! Good neck, Well placed shoulder. Topline needs to develop. Short hocks. Moved well for his age. Needs time.
Dachshunds (W/H) Post Grad (4 Entries)
1st & RES BOB = McCalmonts Silvae Kitemark
Just out of puppy, 1st and second were litter sisters. I preferred the head, eye and expression of 1st and she had a better front, with good neck length and shoulder placement, although her sister had the better forechest and was a shade shorter coupled. This girl also had slightly better ‘control’ which helped show off her conformation.
2nd = McCalmonts Silvae Hallmark
See above. This girl really needs to settle in order to use herself to best advantage. I’m sure as they mature, they will change places. Will watch with interest.
3rd = Jackson Fields Matzu This Is Love
Dachshunds (W/H) Open (4 Entries)
1st & BOB, HG3, BHVeteran, BHChampion = Rowes Ch Bolorias Trick or Treat JW
What a lovely, quality girl this 7 year old is. Not showing her age, she is so well made throughout, with correct length through the body. Beautiful head and expression. The best of toplines. Balanced angulation through front and rear which she used on the move. Sound as a bell and put down beautifully. Was delighted, but not surprised, to find out later that she already has her title.
2nd = McCalmonts Silvae Timeless
Another top quality girl whom I have met before. Much of the winners’ comments apply to her too, but today she wasn’t in the mood and had to pay the price. I love her breed type and her outline and quality. She is another who moves with drive and soundness. But today was just not her day.
3rd = Matthews Stanegate Billy The Kid at Sonham (JW)
Dachshunds (MIN L/H) Puppy (3 Entries)
1st BP & BOB & HPG 4 = Browns Devoncream Mystique Jewel
What a little sweetheart this cream puppy is. She just squeezed in (by a few days) into the puppy class but that didn’t hold her back from a worthy BOB and Hound Puppy Group 4! She has a lovely shape with a pretty feminine head of correct shape. Good neck set into a good front assembly and prosternum, which won her BOB today. Nice topline. Moved well and true.
2nd = Smalls Minard Darque Red For Devondax
Masculine red dog who was quite nice to go over. Good prosternum and excellent topline. Little longer through the loin than 1st. Moved sound and drove off well in profile.
3rd = Whitbreads Dwtidachs I Found A Love
Dachshunds (MIN L/H) Post Grad (1 Entries – 1 Abs)
Dachshunds (MIN L/H) Open (1 Entries)
1st & Res BOB = Browns Devoncream Ice Mimosa
Feminine girl with the prettiest head and expression. Good bone and feet. Moved well but her kennel mate was BOB – as I preferred her front.
Dachshunds (MIN S/H) Puppy (6 Entries)
1st = Woods Ruletadax Goldfinger
What a lovely sound, quality puppy with a great deal to like about her. Litter mate to her brother who was 2nd in this class with very little between them both. This pretty B & T girl has a lovely outline. Well balanced throughout with good angulation and a prominent prosternum, (slightly better developed here than her brother). She had good bone and feet and flowed from nose to tail. I really liked her and to top it all these two were the soundest in the class. Moved with correct drive in profile and maintained her topline. Should do very well.
2nd = Woods Ruletadax From Russia With Love
See above. Slightly shorter coupled than his sister but must also have a bright future.
3rd = Smalls From Redteckel Story Maxin For Devondax
Dachshunds (MIN S/H) Post Grad (6 Entries)
This was a slightly disappointing class with several of the dogs who looked quite good in profile but were very unsound behind.
1st & BP= O’Connells Rijobeau Rumours With Llennocor
Handsome B & T boy who was really lovely to go over. Good head and expression with plenty of underjaw. Correct set to his ears. Flowed from nose to tail and was well angulated front and rear. Good ribbing and correct loin. Short hocks. Really strode out on the move and had the soundness I was looking for.
2nd = Woods Ruletadax Levitica
This B & T girl was like a mature female version of the winner. She had a slightly better prosternum but, nitpicking, I preferred his bone and feet. Still, she has a lot of quality and moved so sound. There was very little between them.
3rd = Ergis Siouxline Mary Rose
Dachshunds (MIN S/H) Open (8 Entries – 1 Abs)
This was a really lovely class to judge, with some nice sound Mini smooths going home cardless. I’m sure that many places could be changed on another day.
1st = BOB & HG1 & BIS Hunts Mylforbe Red Velvet At Sunara
It transpired that I have judged this red girl before and I really liked her then too. Only her performance had changed and today she was on form! Lovely feminine head and expression. Good underjaw. Well-angulated throughout. Prominent keel and correct underline. Excellent ribbing. She has good drive from her rear quarters and is so sound coming and going. I took her as far as I could, and the BIS judge took her the rest of the way to BIS! Congratulations. She is lovely! I will be watching out for her.
2nd = Res BOB & BRBOBH Ergis Siouxline Maisie Rayne
Another top drawer quality girl whose beautiful long neck just flows into her shoulders, copy-book style. She was a little shorter on the leg than the winner. Best of toplines which she maintained on the move. It was a treat to watch both of these girls moving in profile too.
3rd = Roses Pennydach Mystique At Rosencrantz
Dachshunds (MIN W/H) Puppy (2 Entries)
1st BOB & BP = Rozelle Rosche at Janacop
What a poppet this 6 months baby is and what a great enthusiastic attitude! The sweetest of heads with good length to her skull and foreface. She has a lovely well angulated shape to her with a long neck and the best of fronts. Still getting control over where she puts her feet but preferred her rear movement, which won her this class and she certainly made a good account of herself today. Bright future.
2nd = Roses Barratini Song And Dance With Rosencrantz
This puppy was older than 1st but much less mature. Longer set than 1st she will need more time to fit into herself. Pretty head with a good neck and layback of shoulder. Prosternum developing well. Nice bone. Moved ok.
Dachshunds (MIN W/H) Post Grad (3 Entries – 2 Abs)
1st = Res BOB Do Smarties at Janacop
Not long out of puppy, this youngster could benefit from a little more substance. Nice head and expression. Well placed shoulders. Good topline which she kept on the move. Excellent prosternum. Short hocks. Moved well and went well in profile. Couldn’t be denied Res BOB.
Dachshunds (MIN W/H) Open (3 Entries – 2 Abs)
1st = Black Vein Rambles at Janacop
Reasonable neck let into well placed shoulder. Good bone and feet. Good spring of rib. Short hocks. Moved OK. Had to concede to her kennel mate for BOB
Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppy (2 Entries - 1 Abs)
1st = BOB & BP & HPG 1 Barnes Diamondridge Dreadnought
What a cracking boy with a bright future. I could have taken him home! Masculine without coarseness. You don’t need to ‘look underneath’ to know that he is a boy! The best of necks let into correct front assembly with good bone. Excellent depth of chest with well sprung ribbing. Strong well-muscled loin. Good bend of stifle and short hocks. Good feet. Perfect ridge. Moved with easy free and true action. Pulled him out to the final few in the adult hound group, but he took the Puppy Group with ease. Truly fit for purpose. In the puppy group he was playing with the Beagle puppy. I was very impressed with his gentleness. Kindly handled. Will be watching out for him.

AV Import Register Hound Open (1 Entries)
1st = BOB IRH & HG4 Gunns Stonemartin Ailbe With Katanga (IKC) (Azawakh)
Beautiful head and expression on this girl with correct shape and colour to her eye. Lean and elegant, she had the correct Azawakh shape and was taller than she was long. Good neck let into moderate angulation through her shoulder and upper arm. Level topline with a curvy underline. Prominent pinbones and good length from hip to hock. Nice feet. Her movement was graceful, light, elastic, with lift in front and she was sound coming and going. I understand she attained her ShCEx today (Subject to RKC cofirmation) – Congratulations. A real achievement for any breed, but particularly the Azawakh!
AVNSC Hound Puppy (1 Entries)
1st = BOB AVNSCH Taylors Graceminster Ryhme (Bloodhound)
I really liked this quality Bloodhound girl, just coming up to 12 months old. She was a little unsettled but full of quality. Lovely noble head and expression. Thin folded ears of correct texture. Long neck let into well placed shoulders. Good round bone on her forelegs and strong pasterns. Well let down hocks. When she moved, she had a tendency to start pacing, it was not a large enough ring for her. But she certainly did enough here and I think in a larger ring she could do very well. Keep on going with her!
AVNSC Hound Post Grad (0 Entries)
AVNSC Hound Limit (1Entries)
1st = Nicholls Sunset Breeze (Imp Esp) (Ibizan)
Rough coated bitch. Long lean skull with correct balance to the foreface. Flat ribbing of correct depth. Reasonable topline. Moderate rear quarters with good length through the second thigh. Good feet. Would prefer more weight/conditioning on her so that she was lean under the shoulder blades and over her ribbing, but not shelly.
AVNSC Hound Open (1 Entries)

Shapely girl who was quite well made throughout. Lovely head and expression. Fine ears. Strong neck. Excellent topline. Front and rear quarters were in balance. Good length from hip to hock. Moved well with easy action.
