Consett Canine Society

Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback

Consett Canine Society – Open Show Sunday 31st March 2024.

I am thankful to Consett Canine Society committee for their kind invitation to judge Rhodesian Ridgebacks. This was my first judging appointment, and I was very much looking forward to judging this beautiful breed. My thanks also to my ring steward (Barry) who was very efficient in making sure everything ran smoothly.

May I also thank everyone who entered under me and took my decisions with good grace.

Puppy (1)

1st - Barker’s Delianza What’s Your Motive. Stood alone in his class but didn’t detract from his obvious quality. Developing a masculine head with good front assembly. Well ribbed with nicely angulated hindquarters. Standing on compact feet, moved out soundly. A real pleasure to watch and pushed strongly for BOB but sure his day will come. BPIB Pleased to hear he was later awarded PHG1 & Reserve Best Puppy in Show.

Junior (2)

1st Greeves’ Penholda Sweet Lady. A light wheaten bitch. Such a pretty feminine head with a lovely eye. Good length of neck and well-defined ridge. Strong hindquarters but needs to tighten up in front - which will hopefully come with maturity.

2nd Johnson’s Ungowa On The Road Again. Nice boy, masculine head complemented by dark tips to muzzle and ears. Good front assembly, well boned and standing on tight feet. Just not as settled as 1st on the move today. Well handled.

Post Grad (4)

1st Jollys’ Negasi Elberith for Clanbruachan JW. Another super bitch with a lovely feminine head. Good length of neck and nice deep brisket. Nice gentle arch over loin, well muscled hindquarters and standing on good feet. At one with her handler. Deserved her placing today.

2nd Johnson’s Ungowa On The Road Again.

Open (5)

1st McIntosh’s Benicloujam Lola of Chagall. This girl really caught my eye. Nicely proportioned head with such a kind expression. Good length of neck leading into a fore chest with good infill, well sprung pasterns. Well defined ridge and crowns, moved out with drive and holding her topline. Well shown which won her place and BOB today. BOB & HG2.

2nd Scanlon’s Kinabula All About The Bass JW ShCEx OSW. Another lovely bitch with head of good proportions with a kind expression. Good depth of brisket with nice spring of pasterns. Strong, well angulated hind quarters, stood on well arched feet. Moved well but just not with the enthusiasm of my winner today.
